I voted and organized against Trump for years. Americans voted for this.

a lot of people do feel checked out. even with news engaged. americans are unsure if covid (even after it slapped them in the face), global climate change, are real. americans have been under the trump firehose for years. i think a lot of people have spent their energy on tracking the ice nazis and trump's dismantling of institutions, and are basically just gawking at the worldwide traffic collision right now, believing it far enough past their own nose to be something that happens "way over there." americans feel this way about other american states, even. what the heck do they care about iran or greenland. may as well be venus or mars.uziq wrote:
and where's the opposition in the united states? kind of crazy MAGA elected a 'no more wars' president and now he's about to put boots on the ground in iran ... where's the clamour? where's the street protests? poof. this situation is really, truly bizarre. everybody seems checked out.
i meant the democrats and actual opposition. not saying you haven’t registered opposition at the grassroots level. where’s the great leader of the opposition holding all this to account? or is it an imperial presidency without a peep from the bipartisan divide?SuperJail Warden wrote:

this really is the decisive end of the american empire. they will never recover from this episode with iran.
creating a global energy crisis and proving themselves incapable of achieving their goals militarily.

yes, helium. the stuff used in party balloons. and nothing else. thank you, msmI can't believe how the news has to frame world events to try and make Americans care. The whole region is being flattened. Innocent people are dying. Their food and fuel are in total chaos. And our news is like, "if this goes on any longer, say goodbye to your stuffed-crust pizza."

Fuck all of that. What happened to this country in the aftermath of Trump coming into office is the catastrophe. Him and his supporters terrorize my community. I am as glad about the firefighters family seeing him die as many MAGA are at blowing up Iranians....by a hair’s breadth, we dodged a catastrophe.
“But it was still a tragedy,” he concluded, “because one of those first responders lost his life. His name was Corey Comperatore. He was a retired fire chief in the area. He had given his life in service to his community and he died literally shielding his family. He’s a reminder that in those moments of crisis, there are helpers and we can all make a choice to try and be one of those people.
