the resignations in general, to be specific. when it's stooge for a stooge it does feel inconsequential.

i think you're right about the mood not reflecting the threat. trump is a mad king willing to drag the world into the grave with him, and people are still like "well congress/courts won't let him do xyz. it will never happen!" while we invade and threaten and insult and bully with abandon. may be at the point where we can't wait ant longer, and one of the princes will have to do their duty and lower the curtain on the era of teflon don, for the sake of all humankind and the last frayed shred of american dignity!

We are already in a recession. GDP growth in 2025 was revised down and we were losing jobs 3 months in a row before the war even started.

...

Newbie, have you done anything I suggested in regards to getting involved with IRL politics? If you get involved on a local level you will feel much more in control of your life and less likely to fall into despair.

i live in a blue city in a blue county of a blue state. where i live specifically is fine as far as locals have control of things. if local dems actually needed a hand with an event, i'd even help pick up plastic bottles after. not a lot i can do about a hundred million americans' maga votes and the international chaos of trump, though.

this is more advice you'd give to the listless republicans of washington on their ntieth year in a row whining about the blue governor streak here. if they want to see change. actively change the candidates and platform to something washingtonians want to vote for!

aren't you the one saying you're tired of engaging in political stuff, anyway? not that i blame you. i watch city council on stream and like 2/3 of everything said is 'uh, ah, um' and silent pauses for thought while gabbing about the merits or demerits of making a major road connection near a hospital.

I live in deep blue too. Don't take it for granted and expect other people to maintain it for you.

...

I don't remember saying that but it could have been venting. I have a city council meeting in an hour. Clothing drive tomorrow. You could start very small by helping organize a local charity event.

it's not that i don't track it or anything. gotta make sure we don't go purple, after all!

haven't you denigrated these charity events? "i'm tired of spending time on these ingrates" or whatever.

I personally challenge you to just do one charity event. You have the skills to make a poster, talk to some people, collect some stuff and take a picture.

That is within your power. Republicans in Tennessee aren't going to stop you from doing right by your community.

Yes and then I get together and help the ingrates again.

side note, charity stuff is bittersweet in its necessity. literal human interest stories built around the orphan crusher that wouldn't exist if we were a proper society that understood remediating stuff like homelessness and poverty saves money. i buy into food drives, and give money directly to people so they can buy groceries (without ghoulishly filming it for internet points). it's not special and not something i want to beat my chest about. not even a visible ripple from the forest view of billionaire-hoarded resources. there's also a good chance i've been scammed on that in the past, but it's worth it if it meant others got to eat within a starvation-averting timeline between then and whenever americans decide we don't mind if a person on food stamps buys a bag of corn chips.
