I got to see Obama up close when he came to NJ back in November. My seat at the event was at the front so I have pictures of him basically right there. The takeaway from seeing him in person is how tall he is. 6'2 without shoes apparently.

I saw a TikTok liberal make the argument that body building and workout culture is a gateway to the right wing because most of the people who got involved in it are "losers." She explained that it wasn't meant as an insult.
The argument goes that the a lot of the young people who get into workout culture young were bullied or isolated. After they start working out they finally get the respect/fear that they didn't have when they were weaker. So they develop this aggressive worldview where everything is a power struggle between the lazy (people who won't lift weights or are poor) and the "doers" (people who go to the gym and don't use any social services [everyone uses or relies on some social program by the way. Not necessarily food stamps but your tax credits for whatever are budget items.])
I never got into workout culture. I was thinking of getting into it but I really rather have a personal trainer and separate space than have to navigate the gym social scene.
Same thing with run clubs and other stuff like that.

gym people are like any other people imo. good eggs and bad. but generally, if an overweight person were to pick a gym at random and go there to work out, the people around them would generally be an encouraging force of positivity, or at the very least keep to themselves. the fit people sitting back and sniping seems to be a trope separate from reality? i expect more of that from unhealthy couch potatoes commenting on pointy elbows online. gym membership cost money and there's plenty to do in one to keep from being bored.
