the fact that pubs and clubs have closed en masse is one thing, with arguable merits and demerits; but that the young are now too broke or thrifty to (mis)spend their youth on pints and cocktails is quite another. the vision of a country full of coked-up 55 year olds – who also skewed heavily towards things like brexit, and sustaining 15+ years of incompetent Tory rule – is absolutely demonic.

you're a state employee, of course you don't see it as antagonistically. the private sector in the UK has had negative wage growth and increased taxes for the last 15 years. i doubt that you're ever getting a payrise below the rate of inflation from the beneficent state of NJ. i'd be kum-bay-yah about the General Prosperity too if i had a teacher's pension.

Boomers In My Area aren't retiring with giant pensions and going on cruises. they're actively downsizing, saving money for the Tax Man and 5-digit+ hospital bills, or ideating quiet suicide when cost of living becomes untenable. if you snuck a camera in, you could get some juicy stock photos of elders sitting in the middle of a pile of bills, on the phone and pinching the bridge of their nose over a $150 garbage fee. it's really easy to generalize with a boomer starter kit meme, because hindsight, their generation was arguably one of the last who could have really made the Right Choices earlier in their lives and taken advantage of spending power Back Then. fairly common hearing about them getting help from the greatest generation's spare money to buy their first homes!

i think the nick 30 ans meme in france and now in UK is finding traction with a lot of young people, because they are buried in debt and cannot afford to live in cities. the 'my taxes are going to the blacks' thing is mostly focussed in the UK around access to public/council housing. some of the most valuable real estate in the country in the inner zones of london is heavily subsidised social housing stock for basically un/underemployed migrant families. when the local population have such a hard time getting a foothold, it breeds resentment. this doesn't affect me, again – don't shoot the messenger – i'm just explaining why suddenly a lot of young people are voting for hard-right populist parties. that demographic of patient and understanding liberal graduates who can rise above the crabs-in-bucket dire economics are a tiny sliver of the population, and even they have been fucked over by punitive and usurious loans. after 15 years of this declining picture, people have their pitchforks out.

it's my belief that the world is rich enough to send every septuagenarian on the planet out for a decade of vacationing lifestyle, with money to spare. we want old people out of the workforce, but are more interested in protecting bankers and billionaires than letting old people have enough financial security to kick back and have a fun time in their twilight years after 40+ years on the job, contract fulfilled.

Where did the idea that every family was entitled to have two foreign holidays every year come from?
I think its not too hard to estimate that the average boomer has borrowed $0.5-1m in cash from the next generations, not forgetting the CO2 debt, the toxic pollution debt, the other burned up finite resources debt.
Just the low earth orbit garbage pollution debt is bad enough.
Its as if one generation thought they were the last and they could fuck everything up.
