the fence sitting is probably the most frustrating.

"so a woman died because a life-saving procedure was rendered illegal in her republican state."
"oh, well they can't be doing that that. that's just silly." *mashes R*

So the MAGA people you work with do anything more than just vote and complain? I will give them extra credit if they do anything else beyond that.

I am very annoyed dealing with poor and progressive voters. If I were white and not a teacher I would be a straight up Republican voter. Poor and progressive voters want someone else to solve all of their problems, give them stuff from rich people, and not put in any effort. It is thievery. I will not judge them for wanting to expropriate rich people's property. I want to also. But at least I am willing to put in the leg work and organizing.

mac, the maga people i work with, my 'Friends on the Other Side,'1 will complain about voting.

1

they work, er, in terms of their job, but a lot of breathing space is filled with complaining. some really heinous rants too. if they want to endlessly moan about the low-energy state of the washington gop and not put any legwork into bringing maga into local politics, why stop them? how would i even break it to them that a democrat teacher from the east coast wants them to get up and hammer signs into grass strips along sidewalks? they'd hurt themselves in their confusion.

and yes, maga in my circles, as a drum? beaten into kindling here, i'm well aware.

Poor and progressive voters want someone else to solve all of their problems
conservative voters aren't much different. the political identity of old conservatives is basically built on the house of cards of what they think reagan did for them. not as easy as plucking a few supporting cards either. shit is time-locked like a doctor who episode.

give them stuff from rich people, and not put in any effort. It is thievery. I will not judge them for wanting to expropriate rich people's property. I want to also. But at least I am willing to put in the leg work and organizing.
rich people want the money without the work too. don't be duped into thinking this is a poor people thing. the american dream for many people is making it to the point where you live off of money that "makes itself," never have to lift a finger, and shamelessly leech from uncle sam's floppy grey teat. there are people already living this ideal. how many bailouts could have gone to prop struggling businesses and not just megacorps who are making a bit less than last quarter but aren't actually being pressured from without to shutter? or how about even just bailing out every last homeless person and debt-riddled family and still spending less than the country did on corporate bailouts and tax breaks for people who quite frankly do not need it.

the mood on both passive sides (BoTh SiDeS) is that everything sucks, the Other Side is out to end you, but someone else will fix it for you. for the republicans, what was it that his fat majesty said? 'vote for me and you won't have to vote again, it'll be great.' "it's just impactless rhetoric! he doesn't actually mean that!" "he can't do that though, the courts will stop him."

but the liberals have a point thinking republicans are out to kill americans. violent rhetoric, hate speech, gagging criticism against things charlie kirk actually said, policy that actively kills and will kill more americans. what do the republicans have? "this one time in 1993 a liberal actor said something kind of stupid that nobody has acted on." "christmas is beset on all sides by people wanting to end christmas! by the way i bought a few new ornaments in the department store, circa late july." not exactly dying of a problematic pregnancy, is it.

a bit back, i considered i could possibly get away from it by entering teaching like you suggested, but then you got your maga assistant.

I had a nightmare that ICE was trying to get into my classroom. So we locked the door and the kids were stacking desk at the door to stop them from getting in.

what does it say that i didn't even have to see the american flag in that.

i wish my teachers had thought to pop tennis balls on desk feet. very irritating hearing them skid and microscoot around a hard floor for hours a day, depending on if any given classroom merited carpet or not. BRRRRRDRDDRRRRRDRRII

the whole feed on operation midway blitz is absolute madness. as well, its name bears comment. i think we can stop theorizing alternative intents for stuff like the musk salute or the odal rune easter egg now. i don't want to hear about how one was just a roman salute and the other purely accidental.

release the epstein files, donald.

FBI Director Kash Patel said he's headed to Chicago. In a post on X, Patel wrote, "Chicago will be saved, and this FBI will continue to crush violent crime there, and all around the country. Heading to the Windy City now."
precious.
