i feel kind of sad for him, honestly. he was just basically an antagonistic internet troll who found an audience/identified a grift.

i think he was probably quite earnest and sincere in all his family-values stuff, unlike, say, a lot of the rest of the MAGA crowd who pander to all that 'american heartlands' crapital as part of aligning with the evangelical vote.
for better or for worse, there genuinely do seem to be a high - and increasing - number of younger millenials and gen-z who are basically socially conservative, whether out of a reaction to things around them or out of capture by specious 'trad' aesthetics and the ideological consensus-making enterprises of peter thiel et al. they are basically soft radicalised and sincere about it, as opposed to cynical and opportunistic.
i do think it says a lot that his own wife is turning his open casket into political theater. the guy had an ugly mode of life and surrounded himself with mostly ugly people.

There is nothing redeemable about the guy. I practice politics. Obviously I don't sell out stadiums or have a podcast.
