probably avoid belts with recursive patterns like that while teaching world history.

irt shoes, ask nurses, clerks, servers what they like.

i would rather tape broken glass to my feet and go out like that than wear formal shoes while standing or walking around all day. some of that stuff is made in crass disregard of mechanical comfort.

I have found multiple formal shoes I can and do wear all day, super comfy.
That or most of the nerves in my feet may have died, it could be that.

some of my comfiest shoes are 'formal' shoes. fit and quality do a lot. plus the right insoles.

^ ^^ #notallshoes

a pair of formal shoes i owned in high school regularly scraped the skin off the back of my foot. ok for sitting in, not so much for walking. the one thing shoes are supposedly for.

so bias, admittedly. maybe unfairly, but those things were torture devices growing up. it's easier imo to pluck a pair of tennis shoes off the shelf and not have them eat your feet on a casual basis. i'd much rather walk around town in nb than scuff up my (actually) decent pair of formals, anyway.

online shoe shopping is nuts. hokas for example lets you see a shoe on your foot in AR. this is the kind of back to the future stuff i was looking for, but still waiting for self-lacing to make mainstream.

my ex-gf when living in korea was directly involved in that stuff. worked for a big agency in seoul whose clients were fashion/cosmetic/accessory brands who wanted the VR/AR experience. entirely online stores that you could browse and try things on without ever leaving your 40-floor tower hive in gangnam-gu. same day delivery in many cases there too. 'the future', marvel or despair!

on one hand, it's a good feel just walking into a brick and mortar and picking out the shoe in your size with a quick glance at the rest of the inventory without having to sift through thousands of items.

on the other, there's something to be said for putting your foot in a shoe that's probably never had someone else try it on.

i tend to research intensively online, to the point of finding the exact SKU/size/variant i want, and then go to the store to purchase it and get the appropriate level of customer service/aftercare/etc.

with shoes you can often find forums or subreddits or something where people discuss the 'fit' of a given brand or sneaker, and go to the store literally knowing to the correct 0.5 size what you're looking for.

btw fancy tokyo eyewear store and acclaimed 'hand-made in japan' glasses brand replaced my damaged frames and refitted my lenses, no questions asked, at no additional cost. i'm actually pretty impressed, considering the frames are worth about a solid month's rent here in japan.

These days its pretty hard to find the style and fit and size and not made in China just by walking into a store.
I lucked out and found a good brand and just buy the same shoe mail-order over and over.

that's how i buy computer mice. i still have one unused g600 on a shelf somewhere for when this one eventually kicks the bucket (and yes i still use the numberpad on it).

My shoes got lost in the mail. 😔

I now need to go to a mall and talk to a referee.

I will give the New Balance consideration in honor my dear friend Uzique who tragically passed from allergy attack. The cat won.

I have thr S23 Ultra. I love it. The camera is especially good. The phone is too big though. I am always afraid someone can see me streaming snuff in public.

NB are comfy. they’re just a rated brand. neither under or over. i think they got a good reputation for their wide toe-box options too, to fit flat-footed platypooses and new jersey pinies like yourself. give them a chance.

i’m still upset apple axed the small iphone.  i don’t want a still large iphone air. it’s femme coded.

I thought I had a 23 Ultra but it was a 22 Ultra. I don't really like smartphones anymore. The camera is incredible on this one, but I want to go back to a Nokia. Calls and texts are good enough..

I realized when my old phone borked that i have way too much reliance on 'mobile'. Couldn't access payment apps, bank account, other nonsense apps that i checked into often. None of it matters. My life did not change in any meaningful way, and I found myself disgusted at the fact I ran to the store to replace my phone as soon as the store opened. I am intimately familiar with addiction and the dopamine hit from texts and notifications and tasking is fucking diabolical.
