The United States condemns the sanctions imposed by the governments of United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, New Zealand, and Australia on two sitting members of the Israeli cabinet. These sanctions do not advance U.S.-led efforts to achieve a ceasefire, bring all hostages home, and end the war. We reject any notion of equivalence: Hamas is a terrorist organization that committed unspeakable atrocities, continues to hold innocent civilians hostage, and prevents the people of Gaza from living in peace. We remind our partners not to forget who the real enemy is. The United States urges the reversal of the sanctions and stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel.

I think the Free Gaza or Free Palestine stuff was very anti-Jew in the weeks after the October 7th attack. I don't know how you could look at that attack and then suddenly think it was the right time to advocate for Palestine.

It was a damn good show though. I mean everyone. All sides.

Whatever is going on with that war now is too much and too far. I don't have a solution to the genuine problem Israel has: how do they withdraw without Hamas coming back as a political and military force? But there has to be a point where your revenge goes overboard. A 65 to 1 KDR is enough of a win. They don't have to starve everyone there.

Whether or not the U.S. should support Israel is also complicated. I get why American Jews would feel that the government should strongly help Israel. But Israel is committing a lot of the most shameful parts of our own colonial history on the Arabs, Christian and Muslim alike. I worry that our support for Israel confirms a lot of what people say about our nations our history and organization. The U.S. is stuck though because we have been warring with Arabs and Muslims for generations. Longer if you count Christian history as our own.

Finally, as a Catholic I don't know where I should really stand on being anti, pro, or neutral to the Jews. Yes, the founder of our religion was Jewish. But the Bible and Christianity is fundamentally ideologically and spiritually anti-Semitic. Thousands and thousands years of explicit rejection. I don't know how we can just ignore that and pretend Judeo-Christianity isn't a made up thing by post war Americans.
