Accidentally carried a retractable scalpel and a multi-tool through international security once, did not get pinged, only discovered them at the other end.

Did get pinged for digital calipers, a day trip with calipers, a biro and a pad of paper, maybe a snickers bar

Had to buy a bag to put them in the hold.

A funny moment was putting a bag full of guns through the x-ray to board a UK->France ferry.
Arranged in advance and we were met by a staff member

"Please put your bags on the conveyor"
"Uh, you know we're travelling with..."
"Yes yes just put them through"
"Er are you su.."
"Yes, just do it, its fine"
"Erm ok then..."

Then watched the sleepy x-ray operators sit bolt upright and their eyes turn into saucers.

haha, i can imagine.

haven’t actually travelled with anything illicit before but it would seem pretty easy. just not willing to ruin my life for petty quantities of anything.

i have female friends who regularly fly with things, uh, on their person so to speak. especially for festivals or weekend trips.

I took a flight recently with 4 mushroom chocolate bars. I knew an older guy who used to regular fly with decent amounts of marijuana in his checked bag. My gf had cannabis gummies taken out of her bag upon arrival to Mexico a few years back. That's about the scariest run in ive had, besides a few aggressive interrogations and one hour long detainment, all courtesy of Canadian customs.

Domestic flights are super chill. International flights are another story.

At one point in my life when I was traveling internationally often for work id get stopped a lot for auxiliary checks. Swabbing my hands for residue, hand checking my bags, more invasive questioning. I chalked it up to being a solo international passenger traveling on last minute tickets. Annoying, but what are you going to do.

The facial scanning software the US CBP uses these days unsettled me the first time I was subjected to it, but I do appreciate the ease of entry it provides.

Fuckers still won't approve me for global entry 😤

Congratulations on making the move. How do you like it out there?

My girlfriend has family in SF. So I spend a weekend a year out here which she visits family.
Mostly love it so far. It's great not having to drive as much or drive at all to get places. I do still have people telling me to move elsewhere though, like Marseille.

Nice, I've flown in/out of SFO 3-4 times but have yet to visit the city. I want to though.

The TSA at SFO were the most unprofessional I have ever seen. In a good way. The line was backed up and the person at one of the entry points was just waving people through. I guess to relieve the line. They weren't aggressive or rude either.

Total security theater but in a good way. Just enough security to make a terrorist pick a different target and security so lax that it pleasantly surprises you.

I am so happy that you are enjoying the big city. I was worried that you were going to turn into a conservative after getting your mailbox stolen. (It happens)

I just made it back from SF.

It is beautiful. The whole bay area is worthy of its reputation.

Californiacucks (Ken), how is LA different? I assume much less Indians and Asians and much more Mexicans right off the bat. So many pretty Asian girls in the bay area. NYC gets the runoff.

Manhattan at its best is much dirtier than San Francisco, Boston, and Miami Beach, by the way I can confirm. I appreciate California's commitment to providing trash cans. It is actually hard to find public trash cans in our area.

So many Asian broads. I have been playing on hard mode on the east coast.

...

Where is a poor place I can book a quick weekend trip in my area? No black people. What is Toronto like?

Haha where were you in SF? Were you in the city proper? Sounds like you were either in Nob Hill, Presidio, or somewhere outside the city center.

LA is way more spread out. Mass transit exists and is getting better, but still not great.

There are a ton of Asians and Indians all over, in addition to Mexicans. it really depends on where you are. Glendale and North Hollywood is filled with Armenians. Fairfax is filled with old money Jews. East LA is predominately Mexican. Arcadia, San Gabriel Valley, Rowland Heights are full of Asians. South LA has a lot of black people. Silverlake, Los Feliz, Larchmont is full of young hipsters. Westside (WeHo, Santa Monica, Venice, etc) is where the white people are. And that's not even mentioning up and coming areas like Century City.

Downtown LA is probably one of the weirdest downtowns in a big city. Not a very lively place unless you are homeless. It does have the Arts District, but even that area isn't built up and happening as much as it could be.
