Drug test within 24 hours monitored by the school? Wtf is that?SuperJail Warden wrote:
A good student of mine was found with a vape, probably marijuana, in school. They suspended him 7 days. Since he didn't take a drug test within 24 hours with an approved doctor they suspended him an extra 10 days.
In total, the kid was suspended for 17 days for getting sparked up between classes. Seems excessive especially since the kid is pleasant and does my assignments. He even will pay attention. Shame.

My school had a fight last week that resulted in the cops coming. A girl student punched one of the cops too. Craziness.Reading Scores Fall to New Low on NAEP, Fueled by Declines for Struggling Students

The achievement gap is growing. AI is making it much worse. Students who are smart and adaptable can leverage AI in a stunningly effective way. Kids who aren't bright are doubly fucked in this AI accelerated world.uziq wrote:

My childhood wasn't exactly device-free (we had a computer before pretty much anyone I knew, and an internet connection before almost everyone i knew), but my parents severely limited TV and video games. We weren't allowed to watch TV during the week (except Jeopardy, natch) and were only allowed 30 mins of video games on the weekends. It forced my siblings and I to play outside, read, and engage with each other, and be a bit more creative than we probably otherwise would.SuperJail Warden wrote:

I can see the value of having a non-digital upbringing. Like homes with no TVs and kids don't get a device with a screen until they are 12 or maybe 14.
