There was actually an interesting incident of the Chinese Mafia owning a border city. The Chinese government sent the military there to abduct the leaders to be tried for crimes (smoked) such as human trafficking.

the internet has taken such a weird turn in the last generation or so. i could never understand all the antagonism between the sexes. how that's been folded into the culture wars, and so on. even niche issues that might have a legitimate purchase in legal or medical debates, i.e. over trans issues, have become magnified in the culture 1000x more than they ever deserve to be.
i suppose the same vast algorithmic forces which are shaping our everyday scrolling experience of the internet, balkanizing us into so many separate dopamine-stimulated, permanently outraged groupuscules, have also run a vast sorting routine on interpersonal relationships via dating apps. what seemed at first like a field of infinite opportunity and potential connections (as with facebook and social media apps), has quickly turned into a calculating machine that prizes the top percentile of any given distribution and consigns the rest to oblivion (aka "pay $75/month for the extra-premium-mack-daddy membership so girls will actually see your profile!")

sometimes they get into it because they grew up surrounded by mental illness in their own family. a pity treatment is so inaccessible in some places, and unnecessarily stigmatized.
i don't think there's anything wrong with that, particularly. if you're talking to a shrink it's probably helpful if they've been through some extremes of experience, too. and the idea that the analyst-analysand relationship is a reciprocal dynamic is as old as freud. imperfect people talk at one another and help each other out. that's ok!
absolutely. empathy (or at the very least learned sympathy) is very helpful here. a religious psychology student from a sheltered life/population might need to be dissuaded of the notion that jesus is the universal answer. telling a depressed or suicidal or what have you that they're morally insufficient or not pious enough is probably a Bad Idea.
i'm of the opinion that therapy would probably be a good thing for a lot of people as a matter of maintenance, even if they aren't diagnosed with any particular disorder. in a lot of circles though, if they know someone goes to therapy the reaction is speculation about what horrible thing is wrong with that person; sometimes shunning.
