Yea well I haven't had the error so it's fine now obv
I seem to have occasional cycles of BSOD with memory and file page something errors, then it goes away.

Can I Venmo one of you $20 to download a copy of Hamilton from PirateBay? I need the Disney+ version. Disney doesn't let you buy individual copies of the show.

Seriously

Why don't you do it yourself?
I don't want to mess with torrents and all that sort of stuff. Like sticking your dick into a hooker.

Why not buy the DVD off Amazon?

Disney never released a DVD or Blu-ray of the play. It is only available on Disney+.

I used ChatGPT to write my girlfriend an apology note.

Occasionally I'm getting bouts of memory errors and BSOD.
Windows Memory scanner found nothing.
Should I:
Clean and reseat the RAM
Buy new RAM
Buy a new computer

get a mac, the new apple silicon is honestly a 20-50x performance multiplier on any windows machine. the experience is incredibly quick and sharp.
can confidently say that there's been few leaps in technology in my adult lifetime like the launch of apple's own silicon. i don't think i've noticed such an out-the-box performance and quality increase since the days of stepping up to a Q6600 quad-core CPU for the first time or whatever. except it's better - and much better optimised - than that. even an entry-level macbook air will be unlike any equivalent windows laptop in that price bracket. apple really smoked the competition with this stuff when they parted ways with intel.
also probably the lowest and simplest entry-point to unified memory that is ready for all sorts of AI/LLM applications at home (the nvidia GPU route will still take you $4000-20,000 in home consumer tech). not sure if that interests you but it's a remarkably easy way to access a local AI agent. (referring here to any locally installed LLM, not hyping apple's AI in particular, which has not particularly been anything exciting thus far.)

alright maybe a little carried away with my 50x multipliers there, but the m1 cpu was literally 2x the best laptop CPU at the time. the memory performance similarly so. especially considering power usage and things like GPU efficiency.
the whole unified apple silicon package is a leap ahead of what came before. 2x performance on a direct competitor is insane. for the last 5-6 generations of intel-based macbooks you were looking at 5-10% incremental improvements as they tweaked their dies and edged down the nm scale. apple one day released a new laptop that was head and shoulders faster than everything that came before. and it then had about twice the battery life. and zero fan noise or thermals to worry about.
genuinely the best tech upgrade i can think of in memory.

Deep Seek saved consumer GPU market. Finally a reason to spend big on a GPU again: local AI. Break away from the Silicon Valley Nazi data collectors.

slip actual history into lesson plans without chatgpt reporting you to donald trump for wokeness. go for it. 👍
OK, so the solution to a $5 or $50 problem is buy a $4k Macbook.....RTHKI wrote:
I love my mbp but the only thing its 20x faster is the 8 year old laptop it replaced.
A Macbook does not meet my design requirements.
1. Every part of it needs to be too large to fit in The Cat's mouth. Would probably need to be >30mm thick. Already had a near miss with the work laptop, this very nearly happened.

2. It either needs to be on the floor or too heavy to push off the desk onto the floor. Realistically this means being a full size PC tower on the floor.
3. I can't have a laptop. When I've tried doing my CAD technician work at home The Cat lies in front of it and hums to herself preventing me accessing it.

you can have spaces in your house cats aren't allowed to go into.
That sounds great in theory.

unless your cats are velociraptors, you can just close a door.
This one may be a velociraptor.

why do you need a $4k MBP? they do more machines than just premium laptops, you know. one of the notable things about the new laptops is that the airs and 14" models are actually very good value for money. not at all an 'all in budget, max spec' scenario.
the mac minis are powerful and capable even of doing AI/LLMs locally.
the desktop imacs also use apple silicon.
the mac pro towers exist but they are way overkill for anything you'd be doing.
the point was that their latest generation of machine with unified memory represents a 'quantum leap' (ahem) over any other typical home-user experience. it really is that much faster than the type of intel/AMD CPU+32gb RAM+laptop GPU machine we've been buying previously.

I've already provided three perfectly valid reasons why I can't have a laptop.
When I can summon the courage I'll have a go with a q-tip and some IPA.
