we actually noticed the sudden moratorium on 'woke DEI government funding' in the scientific publishing world this last week. lots of research groups basically frozen and putting down tools, figuratively speaking. mind you, i edit and manage astrophysics. there aren't a lot of 'DEI hires' or 'leftist cells' being given telescope viewing time in the field of astronomy. this government seems determined to tear down the system and do as much damage as possible, it seems, through some sort of shock doctrine.

I read an article a few months back about how air traffic control is overwhelmed. Staffing is hard and close calls are common. The article quoted an official who said "it is inevitable that we will have a major accident at this point."
didn't trump also dismiss the head of the TSA. not a proximal cause to an accident several days later, but still. additional levels of bureaucratic carnage can't help.

A post on the site claims, "Facebook's internal policy makers decided that Linux is malware and labeled groups associated with Linux as being 'cybersecurity threats.' this is historic/routine right-wing misdirection, at least for america. as you put it, the usual hoopla. a lot of millennials grew up in conservative households (reagan won the boomers along with everyone else) hearing about how the nazis were aykshully far-left socialists (it's in the name, don't you know), and that's one of the reasons why american democrats are bad. some of it is a knee jerk against their own right-wing politics being conflated with nazi vibe, and will frequently be the first ones to assume in conversation that a comparison is a personal attack.
