I am off that day anyway. I have a feeling the cop won't even show up for the court date.

Hopefully I ruin his Christmas by forcing him to have to schedule a court date on the 26th.

You don't think he'll show up but you hope to force him to schedule that day for court.

doesn't help that it's a driver's burden to get out of even a bs ticket.
I actually talked to my girlfriend about this. She was like "in America you are innocent until proven guilty. The court has to prove you..." I had to stop her and explain that it doesn't work that way in practice. She really doesn't comprehend that in America the police largely do what they want and society generally sides against the accused.
re: your point

some people in the comments hardening their heart about the whole affair and completely missing the point that cops were caught in a complex fabrication and charges are dropped.

I am going to a local law office after work. I am going to hire a traffic attorney. I understand the cost of hiring an attorney can sometimes be more than the cost of the tickets but I refuse to plead down to something for something I didn't do.

From what I have heard it is also a big pain for traffic court to have to deal with attorneys. Whatever they get from the ticket is much less than having to schedule a blah blah for court.

This will be a fun experience too I think. I will be able to say "I have a lawyer on retainer."

police crash suv into bar and arrest owner:

St. Louis Police File Felony Charge Against Bar:PM Owner After SUV Crash
Co-owner Chad Morris now faces a charge of felony assault on an officer

you can't make this stuff up.

weird that the headline doesn't mention it was the cops. not like the pic tries to hide anything.

The police probable cause statement associated with the charges against Bar:PM co-owner Chad Morris (who also goes by Chad Wick) alleges that Morris began to "scream obscenities" in the wake of the collision. The officer writes that Morris "struck me hard in the chest with an open hand, causing me to temporarily lose my balance." Morris then allegedly tried to flee into a gangway between the bar and another building, closing a gate on an officer as he did, according to the statement.

Morris is now facing a charge of felony assault on an officer and misdemeanor resisting arrest.

Bar:PM's other co-owner, James Pence, spoke to the RFT this morning and said that it was the police who came at bar staff aggressively, even beyond the fact they drove an SUV into their business.

Pence told the RFT he was upstairs when the entire building shook due to the crash. He came downstairs to an officer demanding to see his identification. When Pence refused, he was spun around and placed in handcuffs.

As for Morris, Pence said that he was filming the crash scene when three officers "went for him."

"He raised his arm and they said he hit them," Pence said.

After Morris was arrested and booked, Judge Rochelle M. Woodiest ordered that he be held without bond.
lol....

this could have been mac. cops could have crashed into the dentist office, then arrested mac as he came downstairs to see what happened. mac could have been spending christmas in jail on some trumped up charge of assaulting an officer.

That chest push against the cop must have been like Neo from the Matrix. The cop is lucky to be alive.

In various states aren't police completely immune by law?

I've seen a few articles about police crashing into things and they can't be sued.

Not sure where the previous posts were on this topic.

Apparently the Wiembilla shooter was very well known to police 12 months before the shootout but they didn't do a whole lot then sent junior police to apprehend him.

The whole firearms registry thing was to deflect from their incompetence - not that a federal firearms registry isn't a bad idea.
Maybe in another 30 years it will be almost ready.

The mayor ordered the NYPD to stop raiding night clubs. Apparently this has been a thing in NYC for a long time.

The NYPD’s controversial practice of raiding Big Apple nightspots is being put to bed, city officials said Thursday — following years of complaints from local businesses.

A new policy, announced by Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday, would replace the Giuliani-era MARCH initiative — or Multi-Agency Response to Community Hotspots — that led to cops storming into bars and clubs for surprise inspections during business hours.

The new initiative announced — dubbed Coordinating a United Resolution with Establishments, or CURE for short — requires local police precincts to speak with owners or managers about possible violations or neighborhood complaints before taking further action.

The city has long faced complaints about the decades-old policy of conducting unannounced blitzes, which sometimes led to the business being shuttered and which owners said amounted to harassment and scared off patrons.

These raves and nightclubs are a lot of fun. It sucks that I got involved in all of it so late in life but at least I took care of the important stuff in my 20s.

This reminds me of an article I read during the Bush years about a rave being raised in Ohio. The police sent men with rifles and bush suits to raid the club of people dancing to electric music. Apparently the scene was chaotic.
