Oh I only failed one kid this marking period out of 65.

I think by the time they are in highschool, they learned enough unless they plan to go college. High School is mostly about socializing them to be productive members of society. Teach them to get along with their peers and authority. Teach them how to follow through on something or chat their way to success/out of trouble.

For special Education it is called " functional life skills."

I was on my lunch break. I had just dropped off the Muslim student from the other thread to the guidance counselor. I was heading back to my class and saw a severely autistic child about my height hitting their aide and screaming in the hallway. A male student was hitting his older lady aide.

So I got in front of him and tried to calm him down with a smile and "hey buddy how are you?"

The kid is about my size. He grabbed me by my shoulders, looked me in the face, and squeezed the shit out of my left arm.

While he was doing it he had this creepy big smile.

His aide pulled him off of me before I had to physically fight him off.

Another guy teacher saw what was happening and he came over too. We walked the aide and the kid to elevator so they could take him back to the area for the severely disabled. I couldn't follow up since my lunch break was about to end and I had to teach a class. My shoulder was actually sore, red, and you can see the texture being different from the rest of my shoulder. I took a picture of it if you want to see it.

I spoke to an a different aide the next day. The kid was going crazy after they dropped him off in the severely disabled area.

I could have probably gotten the day off if I reported the injury blah blah but it isn't a big deal. I am just glad the lady didn't get hurt more.

I don't even remember if my school had an elevator. I don't remember seeing one anywhere. I think wheelchair kids just got a friend to bump them up and down the stairs.

oddly i've heard more complaints about ada stuff from boomers than anyone else. it's strange considering the number of disabled boomers out there you'd think would want better accessibility. shrug.

even prairie schools have stairs. df must've been really deep in the sticks. forget just checking your shoes for spiders, there's snakes and bears and stuff. he must've walked to school with a rifle.

i visited a gov building once that was still in operation, but the second floor was shut down because unsafe. all spooky and unlit up there too. made me feel really confident about standing underneath it. it was like that some time before they did something.

I am trying to teach a class and have to talk over some kid watching videos on his phone. No amount of yelling gets through to them. They can't be reasoned with. I can't write them up since they can't be punished for their disability.

I stopped teaching my first period class. There is one kid who is so rude and aggressive that I don't have the energy to teach a class and also manage his behavior. He walks around the room, argues with me, makes noises, etc.

This country is so rich we should easily be able to make improvements across the board and everywhere for this stuff. More and smaller and better funded classrooms, more staff, better pay, better accessibility to education at all levels, and even better/more personalized levels of care for special needs students.

Republicans would rather grouse about maladjusted youth generation after generation and continue to discredit and privatize than do anything substantial or effective to address education concerns, poverty and the precariat, food deserts and resulting malnutritional disorders and general conditions that breed antisocial behavior.

Mac shouldn't have to balance an especially unmanageable student with the rest of a classroom.

The rest of the classroom shouldn't have to put up with disruption from a small number of students day in and day out. I would be on my school-supplied chromebook listening to music too if that was most of a lecture's content. Too stressful.

What a waste of everyone's time. Well, not mac's. He gets paid regardless. Still sucks though putting together a lesson plan you can't use.
