So to summarise uziq thought a militarised racist misogynist monoculture built on heavy industry was the place to experience culture.

Maybe this is why he hears panzers in his head as he tries to sleep.

there's much more to korea than that, unsurprisingly a culture can't be summarised in a few posts on an internet forum.

but you don't want to hear about korean literature, film, music, fashion, etc, do you? or its deeper history beyond the cold war? or the quality of life and day-to-day lifestyle in seoul, one of the most dynamic cities on the planet? what about korean nature, with its mountain hikes, nature reserves, coastal islands, varied climate, etc? so much to see and do outdoors, in and out of the cities.

young men have rallied to an anti-feminist cause due to the politics of military service and delayed careers, as well as an unhealthy dose of the general 'culture wars' contagion from trump-era USA, but it's by no means a 'misogynist' culture. you're reaching there. traditional and patriarchal, yes – but importantly on the cusp of immense generational changes. one of the things that makes it an exciting place to be, you see. the old and the new mixing in a dynamic and fast-moving way that can't be experienced as easily in moribund, low-growth, static europe.

it has its problems like anywhere else. only a shut-in misanthrope loser like yourself would tabulate a place's problems and decide not to go there. your 'aha!' points only prove yourself to be a sad incurious fellow of very little imagination.

e: nice to see you concede that korea is a heavy manufacturing economy and one of the world's biggest exporters, after you seriously tried to claim that australia had a worse emissions profile because korea 'barely makes anything'. you're learning, in your stubborn, petulant little way. sad!

No time is wasted to insult or denigrate the other even over the most painful and personal life events. There's real hatred here. It's Tiger King in internet format. Dilbert's = Joe Exotic.

Yes, that makes Uziq Carol Baskin.

I don't remember. What was the joke?

Something about the ominous "click-clack" echoing down a spooky alleyway as the stalked Korean women steps ups her pace to get away from it.

Although I still fail to see anything especially effeminate about a 30yo man wearing a gray pair of dad sneakers. You were also unable to distinguish sneakers by gender when I posted that pop quiz.

I particularly enjoy the irony of a message about right vs. wrong coming from a so-called public servant uploading a leering gun video like a common wannabe crook. Even got the posse together for it, luh-mow.

ABC News: How the deadly shootout at a remote property in Wieambilla, Queensland unfolded.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-12-13/ … /101764286

A six-hour siege west of Brisbane on Monday ended with two police officers, a member of the public and three offenders dead.
Few weeks back now but damn. Looks like they had the property littered with traps to make an escape slow or impossible and cameras on the long driveway in.

That story is absolutely nuts.

Also, it spends an uncomfortable amount of time talking about how mild mannered the man was and how nobody could have seen this coming. Flash to a random victim of police violence, and I'll expect speculations of drugs, madness, and criminality. Here, where such speculations seem more fitting, it's "he (the shooter) put Christmas baubles in his beard for a school fundraiser." Why is the press like this?

The video is speculative day 0 reporting. It came out later he was mental. One of the assailants (female) was the ex wife and current wife of both brothers. Apparently one of them live streamed to Facebook and was chanting we killed the devil or similar.

The press is and has always been viewer count bias first, truth second.

There does seem to be a certain, er, 'hued' inclination the press has for whether they'll on day 0 make a perp out to be the quiet unassuming type nobody would have expected this from, or a troubled and ticking time bomb.

Much of this 'confusion' came directly from the police and the police minister, you can dig through the news reporting

Day 0 This was completely out of the blue, routine police missing persons check, business as usual, perfectly normal to send a female constable with 8 weeks experience to follow this up, a national firearms register is the only solution

Day 1 Unexpected and huge arsenal of weapons, apocalyptic level of gunfire, no-one had any forewarning about guns, a national firearms register is the only solution

Day 2 It was a legally held .22, bolt action 30-06 and a shotgun, a national firearms register is the only solution

Day 3 It was six guns, three unregistered, one for which has no trace in the firearms system, a national firearms register is the only solution

Day 4 OK, this guy had a history of convictions related to weapons, had been reported for cutting through the border during covid lockdown, abandoning a bunch of loaded guns in a creek and for shooting at a neighbour, his firearms licence had expired and his guns not recovered, this was in fact an operation to investigate the firearms offences - handed to junior and inexperienced officers with no backup, a national firearms register is the only solution

I'm guessing they had a bunch of guns which weren't handed in in 1996, the Police fucked up royally sending unbriefed junior officers to deal with firearms offences when it should have been specialists, now they're frantically trying to spin it onto a national register - which they've been dragging their feet on for 20 years and would have achieved nothing in this case.

I couldn't give a crap about a national register, except I'm sure it'll be hacked and leaked and available to corrupt officers to sell on to criminals for targeted home invasions - this has already happened in Queensland twice - thousands leaked in one tranche, the whole database copied and sold on in another.

Apart from that clearly these people are nuts.

It sounds like an embarrassing police screwup that got those constables murdered, then.

National registries scare some people away from gun ownership. Great. Less people owning guns means less opportunities for them to be stolen and less accidents.

No, it was a crazed nutter.
4-up to any job in Aus is extremely rare
Rural settings most jobs during daylight hours would be attended Alpha (single unit)
Well at least in NSW
4-up would suggest some kind of Intel/history. A risk assessment was clearly made. The closest tactical response was some 3 hours away? It's difficult I think to describe to Americans the lack of people really in rural australia, and the consequent lack of resources in all facets of services; police, medical, fire etc. It's why we have the largest volunteer firefighting service in the world.
Where I live there are 4 general duties police on shift between 0630 and 0130 daily covering 10,000sqkm with a population in that area of about 20,000

I don't mean to strip the shooters of responsibility, or to say that cops should have used a tank. I mean it in a vague sense of "I wasn't there and didn't read much about it, but he was apparently on record as a loon that shot at his own neighbors? Were the police as cautious as they could have been?"

It doesn't help that the Police command have been evasive throughout, the truth was actually pulled out by leaks to journalists and only admitted on the day of the funerals.

Obviously the work of a group of nutters, but here I'd think an event of the this kind would merit a bit more planning.

As for a national register, I was notified pre-covid that the police would be asking me to re-register all my firearms in advance of transfer to a national register, not a sausage since.
First step is to create a database of all firearm makes and models and they're still working on that.
https://www.acic.gov.au/services/firearm-services

Rumour is their database is so messed up they don't know what firearms are where.
People get queried on the location of firearms they sold decades ago and have to dig out copies of the paperwork they sent in at the time.

My party trick is pulling out my Russian revolver which has a cyrillic identification number, ДД has become AA in the registration.
