wow this vaccine is shit doesnt prevent all deaths and transmission. useless.
Completely different kind of disease and vaccine.
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-n … hird-death

an 18 year old has died.
there's an epidemic of strep-A in the UK at the moment that has almost killed 10 children already. scarlet fever. a properly victorian affliction, killing schoolchildren in 2022. why is that? it's because an entire cohort of children now have spent the last 3 years in an immunological bubble, without ordinary exposure to other children.

omicron on the other hand poses almost zero risk to children. like it's infinitesimal on the fatality statistics. but zero covid definitely works and has no drawbacks whatsoever. close the schools and universities! criticise the vaccines and boosters! we need to keep people apart, er ... forever!

anyway. gg zero covid. didn't even work in an orwellian dystopia.
Worked perfectly in Australia, and New Zealand, and China and - every country which did it.

Unfortunately the moron countries kept it in circulation and here we are.

no, it didn't work after delta and the more transmissible variants. please do stop trying to re-write the basic chronology of events, thank you, it is most annoying. i have even quoted at you the statements of jacinda arden and other national administrations who were case studies in 'zero covid', and who all unanimously abandoned this approach after delta/omicron/omicron+.

i also still find it highly amusing that you are so punctilious and empirical about me 'simply not knowing whether i have had asymptomatic covid', but you're once again taking china's self-reported, highly politically charged stats on the pandemic as prima facie true. lmao. so i need to verify that i HAVEN'T had covid, but you're happy to cite china's stats all day long on how awsm their policy was?

scientist godbrain triumphs again.

No, Aus and NZ decided to re-open around the same time as Delta emerged, because they thought vaccines would eliminate transmission - which they didn't.

You don't know if you've had covid, hence you can't make a blanket statement like "i’ve never had covid."

If China had had ~5million deaths I think it would be fairly hard for even them to hide it.

no epidemiologist was advising that vaccines would 'eliminate transmission'. this was evident even during alpha covid, not delta. herd immunity was mooted in the earliest days, through mass transmission, but this was quickly scotched by the mainstream of epidemiologists, also.

where are you so consistently misrepresenting the facts and chronology? it's very odd.

nobody who advised reopening did so on the premise that 'vaccines would eradicate the disease' and achieve the same case numbers as a lockdown strategy. the point was that vaccines, plus antivirals and clinical treatments, could do the majority of the lifting work of mitigating death and serious illness.

i've pointed this out to you multiple times, but finding a vaccine for a mutative virus that will block transmission is a philosopher's stone proposition. virologists were not aiming for that, because they know it would be extremely hard to ever devise, especially when caught in an urgent emergency like a global pandemic. we don't vaccinate people with a flu jab every winter with the hope or expectation it will 'reduce transmission'. that's not how highly infectious, highly mutative diseases can be combatted, generally.

as it stands, there are B1 versions of many boosters available now which are bi- or multi-valent and can protect against multiple active strains. will they reduce transmission? only in the most perfunctory way, but it's better than nothing.

read the papers. and stop butchering the basic outline of the pandemic's progress. nobody is convinced by your bleatings.

Er but they did.
COVID-19 vaccination reduces household transmission up to 97%
https://www1.racgp.org.au/newsgp/clinic … ransmissio

That was how opening up was sold to the Australian public.

In fact the effect on transmission is a whole lot lower.

it has always been acknowledged that the vaccines only give a limited brake on transmission. nobody ever proposed relying on vaccines to address that problem. that’s why we have all been wearing masks, practicing social distancing, limiting group numbers, etc, for the last 3 years.

you also consistently miss the bigger picture of the virus’s evolution. it is now highly, highly transmissible but very mild. pursuing zero cases as a goal is costly and makes little sense, and quoting the approach or strategy at the beginning of the pandemic is purposefully misconstruing this context.

overall the vaccines we do have are a small miracle. it was never self-evident that we could actually develop a vaccine for this thing, least of all one with 80-90% efficacy. even if that is in the short/medium term only. the vaccines have been the deliverance but you seem to think shutting down society for years, with no off-ramp or exit strategy in sight, is a better alternative. very puzzling.

Its killing a 9/11 worth of Americans and two Itaewons of Koreans every week, this doesn't strike me as "very mild".

Shutting down early on could have worked but morons wanted to carry on partying, there's no good endgame now.
I guess we'll have a wave of covid deaths to add to the flu deaths every year indefinitely, not forgetting the health impacts on the people who don't die.

97% reduction is practically the same as elimination, the R value falls to nothing.

china is going to be gutted by omicron. positive cases are through the roof after only several days of loosened policy. a lot of immune-naive people who haven’t had an mRNA vaccine or previous exposure.

china squandered every opportunity with their hugely costly zero covid policy. their economy is tottering and they’re about to face down the most serious covid wave of any nation in the last 12 months.

i think covid 0 by itself isnt the issue, its that there was 0 planning for "no more covid 0" and allowing proper vaccines into the country. mfw they still wont approve the BNT vaccine lmao.

still laughing that they are forced to abandon covid 0 over iphones lmao. foxxcon helping that china taiwan war KD ratio

i think you should get outside and try and make some friends tbh. you aren’t taking those dividends with you when you croak it in ca. 12 years.

People =/= Pain

I can live on the dividends and leave the shares to the rest home for retired gentlecats - win-win

Anyway, should I try to be clever and take short term profit in anticipation of a collapse in the chinese emcomony and rebuy, or be lazy and ride it out and hope the long term trend continues over the next ~5-10 years?
I'll probably do what I usually do - go half and half.

Probably makes sense to keep BHP for the copper and ditch Rio in case iron ore collapses - which I think its due to.

OTOH The Chinese govt seems to be pumping cash into the building sector - but I think China has enough uninhabitable apartment blocks and chinese investors aren't going to fall for that scam a second time
