i don’t think alex jones has a dollar to his name. he’s currently facing $1.4 billion in court damages claims from parents he abused. strange choice of owner there.Dilbert_X wrote:

In all seriousness things like this do happen, and with a supposed net worth of $188bn Musk can afford it.
Most of that $188bn is vapour, might as well use vapour to take over twitter and turn it into a Republican cheerleader.
why are you so sanguine about narcissistic man children with fascistic undertones? make u think.

Rio Tinto up 25% in two months, time to start peeling off a bit.

is there anything in your stock portfolio that doesn't have a huge carbon cost?
Nothing in my portfolio has a carbon cost, that falls on the consumer.
Feel free to not walk on a pavement, use a building, consume electricity, enjoy heat, eat food etc if the carbon cost is too much for you.

it's ironic, and evidently not only to myself, to see you constantly judging people for just trying to live their lives in a fossil-fuels-based society, and make everything about 'consumers' and 'personal lifestyle' choices, even when they are obvious necessities ... and yet you're profiting from these things all the time, something which surely isn't on the same level of existential 'necessity'.
you like to feel smug, that's your whole kink.
you resemble nero fiddling as rome burns. you like the declinist and end-of-times narratives because you're essentially lining your own personal bank account with the dividends from extractive industries. and the 'well it's all going to shit anyway, may as well' rhetoric is very handy for you, isn't it? let's blame average people for, erm, using public transport or the internet, those hugely energy-intensive industries. let's accuse the indians of breeding too much. the problem is never you and your place in this world system, is it?

Carbon emissions literally come down to personal choices, the key of which is the decision to increase population.

ah, yes, all these industries aren't interested in their own profits or delivering dividends to their shareholders. they're just humble servants, servicing a vast consumer need. it's practically a not-for-profit industry, really. they have no interest at all in growth or expansion, and in delivering ever bigger dividends. that's not their bag, baby! after all, there's no logic of perpetual growth at the root of our current capitalist system, is there?
i do love the mental evasion by which you absolve australia and every western agent of all responsibility.
so to recap: marriage bad! having babies bad! investing in oil and mining companies good!
if only everyone could lead the ethically perfect and untouchable life like you, eh? living at home their entire lives and judging regular people for going through the ordinary biological cycle and stages of life. you've risen above all that! yes! dilbert doesn't consume! dilbert won't get married! dilbert won't have a baby! not because he's a miserable drip of a person, but because's he's morally superior. and if he makes a pretty profit off the sinking ship, well then he's all the more wise and all the more rational!!!
i really hope all these contortions help you with your deep unhappiness.
what is all the money for, exactly? what are you going to do with it, if the eventual carbon blame all comes down to the consumer? i assume you aren't going to, you know, consume. you can't go on a long holiday or a cruise with that money, that's for sure. you won't have a wife to enjoy retirement with, because you loathe marriage. you won't have children to spend it on and invest it in, because you're anti-natalist and against expanding the population. what are you going to do with your vast amassed wealth from the proceeds of fossil fuels and mining? presumably you're going to spend it in the most maximally green and climate conscious way possible. care you enlighten us? because you're not taking it with you into the musk-invented afterlife of uploaded consciousness, after all.

Musk-invented afterlife.
How weird would it be to have your ghost séanced into your computerized brain-clone ten thousand years later, both consciousnesses having long parted ways and taken several forks since.
Jacob Marley might have to fight an internal civil war.

Didn't have dilbert morphing into a libertarian bootlicker on my bingo card.
Australia produces 1% of the world's CO2, Aus could cease to exist and it would barely be in the noise of India's increased population, or China's increased consumption.uziq wrote:

The FTX guy should commit suicide. That would be honestly in his best interests.
He should certainly think about spending a year or two dead, if just for tax reasons.

Maybe some more memes about dirty hands will make them feel better?Men without four-year college degrees, between the ages of 25 and 54, have left the workforce in higher numbers than other groups. And they’re leaving in part because of their perceived social status relative to better-educated men of similar age, according to a new study from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.
Non-college-educated men have seen their pay shrink by more than 30% since 1980 compared to the average earnings of all other prime-age workers. Their weekly earnings have declined 17%, while those of college-educated men rose by 20%, adjusting for inflation. That earnings loss has caused a decline in their social status, prompting them to walk away from work entirely, Pinghui Wu, the author of the study, wrote.
Hmm. Yes, I'm sure it's because of the social status. And not things like not being able to afford a house, or even an apartment, even with a job. Never mind health care, and mental health care, being out of reach.
I love these articles exploring niche motivations and oddball roots of problems with millennials and workers or whatever. Eat less avocado toast.

The piece wasn't complaining about millennials or workers in general. The drop off is inconsistent across groups. Women, regardless of education, are doing better. It is uneducated male workers who are the ones taking their ball and going home.
Unlike men, women have not seen the same level of decline in their wages based on education. That group has seen a 32% increase in weekly earnings, irrespective of their educational qualifications.
I know that it doesn't really matter what I'm paid at my job, or even if I'm paid. It's the social status. Really.
e: Weren't women generally paid less in the 80s for equivalent positions? Isn't that still a problem today at some jobs? I feel like people are going to use that snippet to say that men are being bullied.
The spending power of both sexes is down anyway, isn't it?

there is a noticeable statistical dip in men in their 20s and 30s not returning to work in the same numbers as other age groups, after the pandemic. has caused some consternation in europe too.
I assume the protracted lockdown, extended unemployment, and stimulus convinced some guys to look for arrangements that would allow them to bums. Usually living off of a woman.

Why wouldn't they? That's the good life.
