Did you hear the one about the cop that catfished a minor and then smoked her family before abducting her?

I actually picked that story up in a convo today.

Gruesome details aside,

“It is shocking and sad to the entire law enforcement community that such an evil and wicked person could infiltrate law enforcement while concealing his true identity as a computer predator and murderer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Winek family, their friends, officers, and all of those affected by this heinous crime,” said Washington County Sheriff Blake Andis.

The mayor of NYC directed the city to start involuntarily hospitalizing homeless and mentally ill people regardless of the threat they pose.
Mayor Eric Adams announced a major effort on Tuesday to remove people with severe, untreated mental illness from the city’s streets and subways, saying New York had “a moral obligation” to address “a crisis we see all around us.”

The effort will involve hospitalizing people involuntarily, even if they do not pose an immediate risk of harm to others.

“The common misunderstanding persists that we cannot provide involuntary assistance unless the person is violent,” Mr. Adams said. “This myth must be put to rest. Going forward, we will make every effort to assist those who are suffering from mental illness and whose illness is endangering them by preventing them from meeting their basic human needs.”

The city said it would roll out training immediately to police officers, Emergency Medical Services staff and other medical personnel to “ensure compassionate care.” But the city’s new directive on the policy acknowledges that “case law does not provide extensive guidance regarding removals for mental health evaluations based on short interactions in the field.”
The homelessness and mental health issues in NYC are a big problem. People are afraid. I can already mentally picture the videos of NYPD roughing up a homeless man to get him "treatment" though.

Looming opprobrium like the satirical side-plot of a Harry Potter novel. "Getting people the help they desperately need" in America is so often a euphemism for violent, adversarial abuses of power. I cannot imagine reading such a thing and concluding that NYC has its citizens' best interests at heart.

Imagine getting involuntarily hospitalized for not having enough money and then given a bill for 80 grand once discharged. Gonna have to pay it off working on Musk's Mars colony.

Eric Adams is a career police officer. Of course his solution is use of force.

He's got a hammer and this looks like a nail to him.

I heard about this video because Hyundai corporate is now getting involved. They got in contact with the driver, gave them a loaner car, and are now testing the original car to make sure to complies with the standard the cop said they violated.

What an absolute stereotypical douchenozzle of a traffic cop. Immediately confrontational tone belying the polite greeting. Voice dripping with glee listing all the thousands of dollars this driver will have to pay. In an age where so many people are struggling with basics (which in motorized America, transport is one), "yeah you're gonna have to pay $7000 for this car, I gotta get back to the station to suck the captains's cock and then maybe I can get out of patrols."

Did you miss the bit where he admitted it was in track mode?
I'm guessing that opens a valve in the exhaust to make it louder

Here we are:

It is widely known that the N model provides pleasure with 'sound'. The driving sound of the Elantra N can be largely divided into the exhaust sound (After-burn sound, pop and bang sound) that can be heard from outside the car and the virtual sound of the N sound equalizer that can be heard from inside the vehicle. In N or custom mode (Sport+ setting for Engine and Exhaust Sound), when the engine exceeds a certain number of revolutions, a pop sound will be produced when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal. When driving fiercely beyond a sports mode such as N or custom mode, you can hear a bang sound every time you raise the gear. These are all factors that maximize the fun of driving.

I was finally on the winding road. Elantra N must have warmed up enough by then. As I pressed the N2 button to switch to N mode and pressed the accelerator pedal deeply, the engine revs surged, and the cool exhaust sound echoed. The nature of Elantra N, which had been hidden until now, has been awakened.

Also maximise the annoyance for people trying to sleep.
What everyone really needs at 22:46 is for some twat to be tooling around making bangs and pops and a 'cool exhaust sound' echoing through the neighbourhood.

The cop was slightly a dick but I also have zero sympathy for people who switch on loud mode, switch off ABS, traction control, stability control etc on a public highway - these people are the real dicks, they're annoying and dangerous.

And I'm sure this guy sought out this car, ignored the advice from the dealer, read enough of the manual to know how to put it in track mode and what that meant but willfully failed to notice the part which said it was illegal except on a racetrack - all for a bit more drama when pulling away from the lights.

And I thought you had a thing for loud exhausts and blinding headlights.

lol hyundai. my main problem in my neighbourhood is that every fifth korean under the age of 40 has a mercedes g-wagon, arranged on some labyrinthine system of credit, and that even under 30mph those things barrelling around sound like a division of panzers.

You'll be glad to know exhaust noise is carefully tuned to achieve that effect, those things could have been practically silent but they've been engineered for maximum annoyance.

Now you know how your neighbours felt when you had a house party with your fancy speakers.

You have no idea how cars work or the laws lol, just like the Cali cop.

There is no such thing as “track mode” on that car.

This is why you never talk to cops.

I'm not particularly a fan of racer bois brapping up and down the neighborhood streets at 2 am. But even less of a fan of the confrontational relationship between the police and the public. There is no reason for a public servant like that, at the standards they should be held, to be dripping that much venom at someone's loud car. I've seen more polite interactions with killers.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm if it was a true track/race mode, it would be restricted to racetrakcks on GPS

meanwhile this guy has modded lambo with a removable steering wheel and dubai plates.

his car wasn't even that loud. it just "burbbled" as it downshifted/slowed down. a lot of "sports" cars have that as default either way these days.

Plenty of cars have 'track mode', that one has N mode, he literally said it was in track mode.

That car has plenty of modes, one includes disabling ESC
https://owners.hyundaiusa.com/content/d … Manual.pdf

Cars are tested for drive by noise, if they fail they aren't approved for road use, if there's a special mode for track use which negates the drive-by noise chances are it counts as an illegal modification.

These days its worth checking your car insurance, if you modify a car from default settings you usually have to declare it to your insurance company.

every single car can turn off ESC lol... This guy didn't modify his car. it came from the factory so don't know what you're on about.

That's why hyundai is now getting involved, are you saying they sold an illegal car in the state of california?

"inform your insurance company" - again, this guy has stock parts.

Even in the case of loud cars though, this cop's acting the typical dickhead. Some of these guys live for this sort of thing. Could be a street racer, an already soulless commuter, or a low income mom in a beater with a kid sitting on the back seat.

Doesn't matter, if he flicks a switch which has 'track mode' on it then he's in trouble. Its patently obvious you shouldn't do that on a road.

People rarely read their insurance documents, they routinely say - 'insurance invalid if vehicle used illegally'.

If the local law says 'must meet drive-by noise at all times' then its his problem and not Hyundai's.

This specific case could go either way but people are often surprised that what they think is right isn't.
