he said all of a week ago that financially twitter has to turn to a near-50% subscription service. evidently unbanning populist, traitorous blowhards with blood on their hands/tweets, and inviting the shady world of sex work onto his platform is a part of that ‘numbers drive’. but, like with his staff ultimatum, he has ultimately badly miscalculated. with all the quality contributors leaving, nobody is going to pay elon musk $8 a month to watch donald trump occasionally post something memeworthy or cringe.
and that’s to say nothing of the exodus of expertise, technical and legal and organisational. right now every one of his harebrained ideas can be aired. the servers are up. the system stack hasn’t flopped over.
