Look at all those runners, though. Republicans could spin this as America finally getting into shape.

National Review article about a NYT guest essay. Some yid found a husband at the synagogue. Finding love at church is clearly something we should all do.
As discussed in Louise Perry’s book The Case Against the Sexual Revolution, a courtship culture encourages men to compete for women’s long-term commitment in the form of marriage — marriage being the price of sex. Whereas, in our present setup, the hookup culture encourages women to compete for men’s short-term sexual interest. This is a terrible arrangement for women for obvious reasons. But it is also terrible for men as it locks them in a state of prolonged adolescence (what Perry describes as “cad” mode). And ultimately, this is bad for both sexes if their long-term goal is a happy marriage and a satisfying sex life.
...
Michal Leibowitz, an editorial assistant at the New York Times, has written a piece titled, “Dating Is Broken. Going Retro Could Fix It.” Leibowitz met her husband at her synagogue, “a meeting point that helped ensure we shared common values and whose members supported (and sometimes vouched for) each of us as we began dating.” Remarking on a trend in the “secular mainstream,” she notes that many people seem tired of dating-app culture. Instead, they have “latched — tentatively, faddishly — onto traditional dating practices.”
This is funny. Conservative magazine making an a "pro-woman" argument for rolling back the sexual revolution. Funny and revealing article.

The author is just doing her job. Probably doesn't act like this in her personal life. The commentators out themselves though. Only an incel dude would want to change the system we live with now. People complaining about hook up culture aren't doing it because they are so good at it. They are just going through FOMO.

...

The advice to marry young and start a family with your high school sweetheart is so fucking stupid. There's a reason why women rebelled against that way of life so long ago.

...

If cruising work for dates is unprofessional, is it sacrilegious to look for dates at church? "Join a church. That is what men did in the past!"  Huh? So it is just a social venue like any other? Why not try to date anywhere else then?

If you were ever actually involved in a church as opposed to larping as a catholic, you'd know there are all sorts of social events and getaways to meet people. It's pretty much a right of passage to hook up with fellow campgoers at teen retreats. I remember getting a hand job under a blanket at a youth group movie night.

Religious people would really do that? Just not live out the things they tell everyone else to do?

Later on Tuesday, Mr Musk wrote in a tweet: "Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app".
Nice of him to put it all in one place so it's easier to avoid.

elon musk suddenly decided to go ahead with the buyout because the courts in delaware were going to open up some sensitive material that he didn't want in the public eye. very funny.

he was also patently going to lose the fatuous court case, if the pre-trial hearings were anything to go by, at further expense to himself.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles … -surrender

But McCormick also came down hard on the Musk team’s mishandling of pre-trial information exchanges common in corporate litigation. In a September ruling, she slammed the billionaire for not turning over copies of text messages for himself and top aide Jared Birchall. The judge said there were “glaring deficiencies” in how the Tesla CEO and his lawyers responded to Twitter’s demands for relevant text messages and sloppiness in adhering to deadlines.

Here are some other rulings Musk lost:

A week after Twitter sued Musk in July, McCormick rebuffed the billionaire’s request for a February trial and set the case to be tried before her Oct. 17. She also lined up behind Twitter’s insistence on scheduling five court days to present testimony.

In August, McCormick ordered Musk to hand over files about potential investors in a $7 billion equity raise as part of the deal. Musk complained Twitter was overreaching, arguing they’d gotten sufficient data on actual investors. McCormick also granted Twitter’s request to make Musk identify people “with knowledge of or involvement in key issues and events” in the deal, over his lawyers’ protests.

In late September, the judge denied Musk’s demand for additional documents about Twitter’s internal measure of robot and spam accounts after concluding the company already disclosed enough of the information.

Just before the public learned about the billionaire’s decision to give up his legal fight to nix the buyout, McCormick allowed Twitter to expand its hunt for evidence that Musk and his lawyers were in contact with whistle-blower Zatko before his allegations became public. She ordered the Musk side to widen its searches of internal files to include texts, instant messages and encrypted emails.
yowch. talk about the most expensive 'taking the L' in history. the guy has been 'getting ratiod' on twitter constantly over the last two weeks as everyone generally lines up to laugh at one of the biggest self-owns in business history.

$44bn to keep your embarrassing texts out of the public eye and save face on your doofus dealings. that's gotta hurt.

you conveniently missed commenting on his genius proposal to give putin all the land he wants, too. i wonder why he's, yet again, making MAGA trumper-adjacent remarks about putin and russia? oh, what's that, who is helping him with the loan to buy his doomed money-burning twitter platform? who musk complained about having to give information on?

High on that list is a Dubai-based investment firm whose assets have surged to more than $5 billion under its secretive founder Alexander Tamas, according to regulatory filings and people familiar with the matter. Vy Capital -- whose main website consists of one page, with no address and no contact details -- has committed $700 million to finance Musk’s bid for the social network, making it the third-biggest outside equity investor in the deal that’s drawn money from billionaire Larry Ellison and ...

starlink appears to be the one moderately useful thing he's contributed that has done some good. not that satellite internet or networks was a musk innovation, like anything else he's self-aggrandised to his own name.

but given his proximity to certain russian interests and his questionable statements re: putin and ukraine, i do wonder about the opsec of poor ukrainians relying on his infrastructure. giving the benefit of the doubt, there.

People Have Better Things to Do Than Commute, Study Finds
https://www.vice.com/amp/en/article/5d3 … tudy-finds

The time people used to spend commuting is no longer wasted in the purgatory of American highways where time sinks into oblivion and one is left only to contemplate their own fleeting mortality amongst a blacktop of motorized sadness.

I've been delving into academic articles on stakeholder management for work purposes because I want to introduce some more professionalism in our work processes on that topic. Most of it is part of MBA courses or other such degrees. It's pretty funny how simplistic most of it is. As a student I was trawling through complicated historiography preparing for oral examinations on Hegel and Marx, and then you have students who apparently spend their time reading through articles that are little more than kicking in successive open doors.

Oh and a lot of these articles try to uphold some academic pretention by spending at least a quarter of the pages explaining the origins and semantics of 'stakeholder management'. Sigh

My sister did an 'MBA', I tried reading one of her project management books, after about three pages I couldn't take any more.
Seemed to have been written by someone who had never managed a project, and it was, a lecturer who had spent a lot of time reading other books on project management but never actually stepped outside academia-world.

Also protip of the day: If you want to test the quality of a DIY/construction book skip to part about using a cement mixer. If it tells you to put the aggregate in first then put it down and find another book, because that one was written by someone who has only read other construction books.

I'm sure this concept applies to other fields, cooking for example.

Except there are people in construction who don't read books and do things the wrong way (and unsafely) anyhow.

This Bolsonaro stuff is hitting close to home.

Trucker blockades in Brazil increase in wake of Bolsonaro election defeat
https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/ … 022-10-31/

I have respect for trucking as a crucial service keeping our modern society moving along, but as of late these (#notall) truckers aren't making it easy.

Always a good thing getting rid of politicians who inspire their flock to violent action.

People are steadily losing faith in democracy, and turning to fascism, micro-communities and self-reliance.

100+ Years of liberal democracy has delivered for ... the 1%. Why wouldn't people be pissed or desperate to secure their spot?

Liberal democracy, not liberals you moron

My god, Lenin could predict the future

the United States's representative democracy which he said consisted of  "spectacular and meaningless duels between two bourgeois parties" led by "multimillionaires"

I mean we could sit around picking apart ways in which "liberal democracies" sort of don't abide by your wiki guidelines. "Rule of law" (lol). Elected politicians ordering hits on colleagues, police running over bicyclists (literally just posted in the cop thread), the incarcerated innocent. Roll-back of civil rights, "political freedoms" as long as you aren't a BLM protester I guess. Yet you're holding an ideal responsible.
