I like the pickled cucumbers, daikon, carrots. That's about it.

I've been saving veggie scraps and using them to make my own veggie stock. It's been very good.

yeah stock and soups are great. i don't reach for the 'ole pickling jars that often.

since kimchi is a massive fad-food now, everyone seems to recommend it for its healthy properties.

but if you're eating a high-salt diet, you don't need to pickle or kimchi'fy all your veggies lol. koreans and japanese have the highest rates of stomach cancer in the world for a reason.

I've also more or less perfected a vegan chili that I'm going to start entering in chili cook-offs. My first competition is the end of October. Eggcited!

also love a good vegan chilli. normally with an oven-baked aubergine or sweet potato in it for bulk.

I usually use textured vegetable protein. Does a decent job mimicking ground beef or ground turkey. I'd like to find a non-processed alternative.

like ground and fried tofu, you mean? i go through phases with tofu. sometimes it’s good and sometimes it reviles me. there is so much damn tofu out here.

used to use a lentil mixture for a lot of my veggie curries and chillies in the UK. plus the usual beans and pulses of course. too hard do find the latter beans out here. sweet potato is pretty controversial but i like the chunky texture. good when oven roasted with chilli powder and smoked paprika.

i am in general not keen on pickling and don’t think anything can be improved by being made into a kimchi.

the cucumber one i’ll just about take so long as it’s the asian-style cucumber and not the horrid water-filled ones we get in the west.
I have plenty of both (Asian) cucumber and zucchini for fresh eating. They grow really well in my area, with minimum effort once planted apart from watering and cursory harvest checks. What I don't eat relatively soon can be preserved into something like kimchi, a dish I actually enjoy the (acquired) taste of and find myself buying in large jars every so often. I've a slight preference for when components taste and smell a bit fresher, although I know it's supposed to be more fermented. Controlling the process myself, my rules.

Wish I had more nasturtiums for late summer salads.

Pickled radish is a must for my gimbap. I haven't actually tried pickling any radish though, just buy it from the store.

Picked a small bucket's worth of (Asian) cucumbers and zucchini that seemed to have appeared today out of nowhere. Might be able to trade a few for eggs. I see stir fry in my near future anyway. Might have to go grab a napa.

In n out again. This time it only took 10min. 2 cheeseburgers, an order of fries, and a chocolate shake

Felt snackish. Two small avocados, halved, topped with red taco sauce. Whole thing probably cost less than a dollar, discounting my time.

Why didn't you just eat one avocado?

magic mushrooms show great potential at helping people with alcoholism or alcohol abuse.

i mean can you get any better allegory of what i’ve been saying for years on this topic?

it’s good triumphing over evil. star wars stuff. marvel universe levels of good/bad clarity. right up dilbert’s street.

now watch him complain about the quality of research or mention his ultron, david nutt.

Pre-industrial medicine knew best, though. We should go back to general exsanguination and trepanation. All this modern tech is too untested. It's obviously bad blood and foul spirits.

Dilbert uses an abacus and quill/parchment instead of stuff like graphing calculators and engineering suites.

People who get high don't need to get drunk - amazing, who could have predicted this?

you are idiotic.

a single dose or course of psychedelics can create long-lasting changes to people's habits and impulsive/addictive behaviour.

it's not about not fancying a drink when you're 'high'.

psychedelics are not impulsive and they are at the very bottom of the drugs scale for addictive potential. many people take them once and never feel the need to interact with them again in their lives. it's not about swapping getting drunk for getting high.

it's about a 4-hour trip and a few counselling sessions equating to long-lasting addiction/depression/trauma recovery.

the current treatment paradigms for these things are nowhere near as effective.

you can take SSRIs for 6 months or 1 year, ruin your seratonin receptors, become a zombie, become physiologically dependent on daily medication, in fact ... or one trip with some mushrooms can create long-lasting benefits to mood and depression. as for current cures for alcoholism, that is, giving people drugs that make them violently sick if they try to metabolize ethanol ... or endless AA meetings ... well, you can check the statistics on their rates of recovery yourself.

if you don't see the promise in this, you really are much less scientific than you fancy yourself. your obtuse remarks only mark you for a bigoted idiot.

A crisp, oniony pico de gallo generously spooned on top of baked beans. Random banana side dish.

I think I'll try my hand (more) at mung bean pancakes. Had some homemade not long ago that were really good, and heavy on added garden (I think it was said) vegetables.

Macbeth, you should improve at cooking and then write a cookbook. You could probably manage some rather amusing pre-recipe anecdotes. "My pa was a struggling salt miner and my ma was a German-Irish reverend on the run from the Honduras government" and so on for like eight paragraphs leading up to how your family came up with its patented tofu nuggies.

I am going to write a book about how my service to Queen in Afghanistan prepared me for life teaching in partitioned Leicester. I got a cover picture ready to go.

it's actually kind of funny that dilbert, a supposedly rational and intelligent person, mirrors the rhetoric of the most funny Fox News chyrons. 'no go areas in britain! this city is off limits to locals!'

its like lauren southern's "no go zone" of lakemba in sydney. I was there during ramadan markets and the pub was open and people were gambling on slot machines (pokies here) and drinking beer. including women in hijabs.

yeah i spent half my 20s living in neighbourhoods where that was the norm.

don't check the news footage of the crowds and queues for the queen. a lot of non-whites and commonwealth citizens taking part and being 'proud to be british'. doesn't fit the narrative!

you can practically hear dilbert rubbing his hands with glee whenever something makes the news that involves a non-white minority group, or a fascist nationalist party enjoying some political success.

i wonder why he's so invested in these narratives and cherrypicks such conspicuous news stories?

but he's not a fascist, apparently. he's just, erm, a disappointed socialist. or something.
