sort of an anti-slick-media-personality. wouldn't surprise me if these union guys had a few meetings about how to deal with the media in their presentatin and delivery. they don't play the game of 'political interviews' in the slightest. they are having none of it. simple and direct.

and they're winning. talk of a general strike action this year.

The unions are going to May '68 themselves into a Boris comeback.

try harder you dweeb.

“oh you’re protesting? but haven’t you bought a starbucks coffee before?”

the question raises itself every day: why are you a forelock-tugging little lickspittle?

if you didn’t live at home on your parents’ dime your whole life, you’d be every bit as exposed to the vagaries of the capitalist class as anyone else. instead you’ve got a modest pile of pocket change and you fancy yourself a spokesman for the monied class. sad !

i don't think even textbook doctrinaire marxists, would-be revolutionaries, deny the necessity of capitalism. it is an important stage of historical development – even marx and engels said that, on page 1 of left-wing thought.

do you really think you're making some sort of critique here?

for the seventh time this week i have to ask you: why are you such a lickspittle for the boss class? you aren't a capitalist. hasn't a huge chunk of your life, education and career depended on ... state-led initiatives? free socialist education. work contracts from the public/state sector. making gewgaws for the military? erm, hello??? christ you are dumb.

How am I a 'lickspittle for the boss class' exactly?

i have no idea why you keep taking umbrage at posts talking, variously, about union action over poor pay/working conditions, or continuously rushing to defend the musk/bezos cadre. you've said yourself here repeatedly in the past that you're economically left-wing, or words broadly to that effect ... so what the hell are you sniping about?

your argument seems to boil down to the generic, "oh, you hate capitalism? but you enjoy starbucks!' guff. it's weak piss.

you have a very weird obsession with air travel.

No, I've said unions suck ass, not that workers shouldn't get better conditions.

Air travel is literally the one thing people could give up with practically no impact on their lives.
Probably 90% of air travel is completely frivolous.

my favourite thing is that liz truss has opted to take a 'poor me, growing up 'umble' approach to her campaign, making lots of emotive speeches about the poor quality of her education and how many people around her she saw 'being left behind'.

liz truss spent her entire youth under conservative governments.

I don't think you can pin Britain's education system on the tories, didn't Labour abolish grammar schools?

she talks about how her personal experience shaped her.

it’s relevant because liz truss started out as a lib dem, and had a late change of party to conservatives. ditto, she was a notable remainer. who is now trying to salvage the pieces of boris’s hard brexit government.

people are naturally scrutinising her motivations.

claiming that she was galvanised into politics by her poor experience of education is a funny way to justify her conservative switch. her formative years took place entirely under a particularly ideologically extreme conservative party.

If her poor experience in education translates into a poor education, then her conservative switch makes an ironic amount of sense. Weird thing to boast about.

well, nice try, but it's irrelevant to liz truss. she went to a high-performing comprehensive school that was known as a model of the new state-school system. liz truss's dad is a leading pure mathematic professor (at leeds university): she wasn't sent to no sink-estate school, despite her manipulative messaging. she had extremely liberal-lefty parents who believed in state comprehensive education.

and it doesn't change the fact that she has justified her swing to conservatism based on the poor standards and management of the state school system ... under 14 years of tory rule. blaming that on labour is a bit like the way the current conservative leadership candidates talk about 'fixing the economy' ... as if they haven't been the ones in charge of it for the last 12 fucking years.

normal island.

waiting for dilbert to say ‘but unions suck’, ‘oh, but you accept an income in a capitalist society so you’re complicit’, ‘the problem is the lazy workers: why can’t they take more hours?’

i thought consumers could just ‘vote with their wallets’ at the petrol pumps? and solve the climate crisis and price problem all at once???

can’t this guy just, like, get another job?? and stop expecting everything to be handed to him on a plate? guess he’s been raised with delusions by the guys with red ties who told him he can get everything for free L o L.

it’s going that way. we’ll be burning coal again this winter and we can send the children up the chimneys to sweep.

I have little sympathy for someone who decided to have three kids without planning how to pay for them and wants someone else to bail them out.

The population more than doubling every two generations is not sustainable, these people are the real terrorists.

Also Woodside Petroleum has done well for me this year, up 65%, 8.2% fully franked dividend easily pays my petrol bill.

Except your personal circumstances don't really seem that usual, and also people can fall on hard times like pandemics and recessions and depressions. Did you know there's a war on with consequences for various economies?

Casual embracement of population decline when we aren't even done speculating negative effects. The diminution of the world's skill pools. Creatives, scientists. The worries of a ratio of aging populace over the young.

Also, yes, the problem is definitely 100,000+ more people when 1 more billionaire dwarves their footprint. /s
