It's not hard to wrap your head around. People get triggered by the "social" in "social studies." Get mad about desks being pushed together for class projects. "Kids won't be able to think for themselves!" in the same breath as "why are there so few good team players nowadays?" Well, why the heck are you opposed to teaching kids teamwork?

Biographies and little historical blurbs were in some of my math books. They usually took space at the beginning of the chapters, not as much stuff in margins. I enjoyed reading those. How a method was discovered it, and who contributed to further understanding in this part of mathematics. There's only so far I think doing example questions can get you. I am not opposed to cutting problems in a chapter roughly in half and eliminating much or all of homework assignments. It does no good anyway, making kids work until midnight. What percentage of their overwork are they going to retain long term? I wonder how much on average people recall after 10 years away from school.

I bet DeSantis's conservatrolls who skimmed through these books saw a black woman in the side margins (the scandal!) and let out a pained hiss before uttering "CRT!" The new "heresy." They must have been overstating her contributions anyway!

I rolled my eyes at the black lady too. I see their logic. The under 18 crowd is increasingly non-white so they wanted to remind kids that "they can do it too" since there were famous black people who could. I can definitely see some stressed white lady trying to help her kids with math and then being vexed by having to hear a story about a famous black lady.

Other thoughts...the Social Studies (ᛋᛋ) department is getting new textbooks since we are also doing a big curriculum update. When I used textbooks, we don't use textbooks or talk about Bruno in my classes now, the World History book I used was from the last 90's. The American history books were more up to date. I really don't want or need the new textbooks or the new pull down maps since I digitized all of the lessons I use but I can't tell the Reichsführer that I don't need it. I am interested to see how the new textbook integrates SEL and Culturally Responsive Teaching. I saw nothing like that in any of the earlier textbooks.

Math person: *mentioned in math textbook*
Macbeth: *rolls eyes*

It's not like Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein lack mention these days.

this article ( https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireS … d-69176749 ): *exists, or anything talking about a person of accomplishment who is also black*

"Hunter Biden urged brother’s widow to get tested for HIV during their affair"
Hunter Biden desperately insisted his brother’s widow, Hallie Biden, get screened for HIV as their torrid affair cooled off in the summer of 2018, emails show.

Biden, 52, implored Hallie to be tested for HIV in an email sent to Beau Biden’s widow on July 27, 2018, about a month before he fathered an out-of-wedlock child with former stripper Lunden Roberts.

“You need to inform me of the result,” Hunter wrote in the email found on his abandoned laptop, a copy of which was obtained by The Post. “TODAY. I am getting tested today. I have been sick scared Hallie and you [hang] up on me.”

Hunter also accused Hallie of being detrimental to his mental health and trying to drive a wedge between him and niece Natalie some three years after his brother, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, died of brain cancer at 46.

“The love you give is so disturbing,” Hunter wrote in the message with an all-caps subject line of “YOU NEED TO GET TESTED FOR HIV HALLIE.”

The preoccupation with Hunter Biden's private life is so bizarre. He's like a celebrity for the right by dint of his frequent appearance in their headlines. Can they really not find that much by digging through Joe's past?

Joe Biden has some fucked up family. I think attacks on the president because his children have drug problems falls flat on most Americans since most Americans either have a drug problem or have a loved one with a drug problem. And in a world full of rapist, murderers, thieves, and terrorist...is it really that embarrassing to have a drug problem?

The only question really is what shady things Biden has pulled to support his son, because lets face it without the VP as his father Hunter would not have progressed past handjobs in parking lots.

nepotism is endemic to upper-echelon career paths and upper-middle class social circles, really. from the going-to-harvard-because-grandfather-did thing all the way to getting the ear of someone on wall street for an internship, etc. it's not as if biden is guilty of some unique corruption, although it is always galling when it's such a high-profile case and it seems so transparent and shameless.

weird spectacle seeing trumpers and repubs continually raise biden & sons when, er ... trump's entire white house executive team was the most nepotistic regime the united states has perhaps ever seen.

Harvard and internships are one thing, OK two.

Multi-million dollar international deals are another, or more.

Sometimes talked about here.

Why: in part, decades of political social engineering by Republican media/thinktanks/blahblahblah, who ironically have been telling the Republican base that the liberals want to brainwash them. Trump movement & stuff in the general orbit didn't appear out of a void. Get liquored up and watch some hate tv. Idle Rushtribe/etc. on your commute where you absentmindedly absorb it like so much hypnosis tape. Turn off your brain and google the results you want with no regard to source/reliability.

"Interesting theory!" respond "thinking" conservatives who then turn around and continue to do these exact things.

Chris Christie hits with a scaaaaaathing comeback.
Governor Christie
@GovChristie
Insightful commentary about three Republican Governors who were overwhelmingly re-elected by their people from a former President who lost to Joe Biden. Maybe the “R” in RINO really stands for re-elected. Proud to stand with

What does he even mean?

Tried to scroll down and got that Twitter popup.

Trump didn't pick Chris Christie for anything and now Chris is trying to be a paid political commentator on NYC liberal networks. Hated him when was governor. He made public workers pay for their healthcare benefits along with a bunch of other "reforms" that made things harder for teachers. I don't recall him ever saying or doing something racist or homophobic though.

your edgelord STEM billionaire class could probably redistribute the 'profits' (ahem) from their enterprises more fairly with their, you know, value-generating workforce.
