Crossing the 30 line today! I think it's less rough when you can realistically keep perspective on & appreciate where you're at in life by this point, and with that being said: I'm grateful that I lost my V-card a little over two years ago, grateful that I was finally able to get the fuck off of night shift back in September after having done it for 8.5 years, and then the cherry on top is that I bought my first new car last month too. Probably not shit at all compared to most of you guys but they were big achievements for me.

Bad news is that I found out a few weeks ago that the current average life expectancy of high-functioning autistic people is 58, so I'm over halfway through this bitch.

A 2022 Ford Explorer, brand new! My stepdad has the hookup with a dealer about an hour away, and so I was able to get it for MSRP, which is huge in the current car market.

Thankfully no, it only needs regular. The only 'Sploders that can make any use of premium are the street performance-oriented ST trim, where the more aggressive factory tune can take advantage of it. I did find a new gas station on my commute that offers E15(marketed as Regular 88 in a lot of places), though and I filled up with that on Friday. Saved me 5 cents a gallon over regular at the same place and it's 88 Octane instead of 87 for what extremely little that's worth.

c s b, I've had to literally open the manual on some "but doesn't premium run cleaner/better?" people and show them where it says to put in like 87 (lots of trucks, some cars, from 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s). Really nasty bit of marketing, that. Pay more for the "better" gas that might actually void your warranty, depending.

A long time ago I was going somewhere with my dad, and whatever he was driving at the time had some knocking going on that seemed to be at least temporarily resolved by him putting some 91 or 93 in it, so it may possibly be used as a bandaid until you can get the car looked at. But yeah, I certainly wouldn't run it just because it's marketed like a more premium product, like a lot of people do.

My Crown Victoria was FlexFuel, and admittedly I had been putting E85 in it for the last two or three years that I had it because it ran noticeably smoother and with better acceleration, at the cost of losing 6 MPG, so there was certainly some sort of factory tune going on when it comes to FlexFuel. E85 is equivalent to something like a 100-105 Octane.

Cases like that it's fine, but for myself I'd definitely not take it as a permanent solution. Finish the trip and take it to some grizzled sticks mechanic to check out. Some pretty good mechanics out in the sticks sometimes, running their business on a side property. See lots of commercial vehicles parked there.
