stupid and inept reasoning, as per usual.

every nation state has foundational myths. you claiming the 'jews committed genocide first' because of mythical heroic-age tales about king david and the ferocious warrior-leader kings is a bit like taking the english myth that st. george killed a dragon at face value.

myths are not history. there is no archeological evidence or material fact to support the claim that 'the jews committed genocide'.

considering the group you are spreading this calumny about were the victims of one of the worst examples of ethnic cleansing in human history, this just makes your wilful misreading of the elementary difference between myth/history all the more disgusting.

it's not big and it's not clever. do better.

Does any other religion have multiple genocides as its foundational myth?

Aren't the jews now perpetrating one of the worst examples of ethnic cleansing in modern history?

Casually plucked from Google:

Second, the sweeping language of these warfare texts such as Joshua (as well as Numbers 31 and 1 Samuel 15) occurs in highly figurative, hyperbolic accounts—quite common in the ancient Near East. This kind of “utterly destroyed” bravado was common in ancient Near Eastern war texts. Biblical scholars and archaeologists (e.g., K. Lawson Younger, Kenneth Kitchen) have recognized the pervasive use of hyperbolic language—“boasting” about “total destruction”—in ancient Near Eastern warfare literature. Victories were often described hyperbolically in terms of total conquest, complete annihilation, and destruction of the enemy, killing everyone and leaving no survivors. One Moabite king wrote of his defeat of Israel, “Israel is no more.” The knowing ancient Near Eastern reader recognized that this was massive hyperbole, and the accounts were not understood to be literally true. This language was like a basketball team saying of their opponents, “We totally slaughtered them!”
Familiar words one will often find in relation to this stuff.

That said, I am interested, but not an expert, in ancient histories.

K. Lawson Younger, Jr. ([email protected]) (PhD. Sheffield University) is Professor of Old Testament, Semitic Languages, and Ancient Near Eastern History at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University, Deerfield, Illinois. A specialist in Assyriology, Aramaic, and Hebrew Bible, Younger has published numerous works involving ancient Near Eastern texts and their relationship to the Hebrew Bible. He is the author of A Political History of the Arameans: From their Origins to the End of Their Polities (2016), the Winner of the Biblical Archaeology Society 2017 Publication Award for Best Scholarly Book on Archaeology.

Kenneth Anderson Kitchen (born 1932)[1] is a British biblical scholar, Ancient Near Eastern historian, and Personal and Brunner Professor Emeritus of Egyptology and Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology, University of Liverpool, England. He specialises in the ancient Egyptian Ramesside Period (i.e., Dynasties 19-20), and the Third Intermediate Period of Egypt, as well as ancient Egyptian chronology, having written over 250 books and journal articles on these and other subjects since the mid-1950s. He has been described by The Times as "the very architect of Egyptian chronology".[2]
Have you even read 250 books in total?

(February 27, 2022 / JNS) Thousands of Israelis took to the streets on Saturday to protest the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Social media showed swarms of people of all ages holding signs and chanting, calling on the Israeli government to stand up against Moscow.

Several ambassadors to Israel from the former Soviet Union were present at the event, according to reports.

“We stand with the people of Ukraine and hope for an immediate end to this war,” the pro-Israel NGO StandWithUs wrote in a Facebook post alongside an image from the rally.

Yes, if there's something in the bible which suits the jews agenda, such as the existence of historical Israel and the never-ending right of the jews to Palestine, then its all cold hard fact and anyone who says otherwise is a raving anti-semite

But if there is anything which shows the jews and their worldview in a bad light, like the slaughter of the firstborn children, multiple invasions and attendant genocides, then its all a fable and anyone who says otherwise is a raving anti-semite

erm nobody with any sense appeals to scripture or bronze age myths for any political policy.

if you think the modern nation state of israel is the way it is today because of fucking biblical myths, you are off your rocker.

nationalism was a nascent ideology in the 19th century. every nation dug deep into the mythical past to invent dubious justifications for their people’s ‘eternal’, ‘timeless’ qualities and self-determinations.

nobody outside of the most orthodox of jews takes the scripture literally as a how-to guide for modern nation-state politics. much like how evangelical christians in america took ‘manifest destiny’ literally when they genocided the native americans. this isn’t uniquely jewish.

you are simply illiterate. and a bit of a simp.

What are you on about. Refer to my post about bronze age shit talking and the multiple missing links between modern Isreal and its unconnected iterations of yesteryear.

Upset about being called a raving antisemite? You would do well to stop referring to Israel as 'The Jews' in 50s horror poster font. Israel isn't even all the Jews of the world, and as I posted not every Israeli agrees with their government.

I'm disconcerted by DeSantis' assertion that "math is about getting the right answer." A very bland, basic, worksheet-mindset.

Why would they ask you to show your work if it was only about getting the right answer? Could it be that math is also about the process of elimination, simplification? How did you get your answer? Why did you choose that method? How accurate does it need to be, and why? Why do you even need to solve for x in the first place? "Let's talk about your history with and how you feel about the topic so we can work around any roadblocks you might have" seems pretty crucial to me.

I have helped teach math to people who have had major blocks (like literal tears). I have had to be creative about how I went about laying out some concepts. I am not a math major, or professional educator/psychologist. In my purely lay opinion, a sterile approach to math as a topic has probably failed a lot of students. In general, a focus on academics for pass/fail's sake has probably failed a lot of students. Students who are good at school may not be good at working in subjects they excelled at academically. Students who do poorly or may even be called failed students may excel in practical conditions, such as lab work. Students so dug into (rote) convention they learned early on that they're resistant to, or cannot process new information or methodology.

How many people have been left behind by antiquated education practices? We should be constantly broadening ways in which to teach, to connect with people, to pass down all this supposedly critical knowledge.

@cybargs

I mean, look at the samples? Whole page on negative exponents. Story problems with the suggestion to try a different approach when you're stuck (breakthroughs have been made this way in the past; imagine if mathematics was nonmutable - enjoy doing pi the old way).

Soothing Math Anxiety

Many of the rejected textbooks do prompt students to consider their emotions. In a McGraw Hill fifth-grade book, shown below, students are encouraged at the beginning of the school year to write a “math biography” reflecting on their feelings about the subject and how they expect math skills could help them enjoy hobbies or achieve goals.
I cannot stress how important this could be for people in the long run. Learning to personally connect with and look at math as a useful and positive tool rather than some oppositional force, fun-sucking deadline, or source of punishment.

Vincent T. Forese, president of the Tampa-based publisher Link-Systems International, which submitted curriculums for three high school math subjects that were turned down for reasons unrelated to social-emotional learning or critical race theory, questioned why the state made a splashy announcement that books had been rejected.

“I’m not sure what the value proposition of making an announcement like that is other than there’s political value in it,” he said.

The only value to me was linking maths and physics, then it all made sense.
Weirdly we did a lot of maths as part of the engineering degree, taught by the maths dept, which had literally fuck all application to engineering.

I never had any expectation I'd use matrices for anything, then discovered all those whacky transforms which seemed completely useless were essential for robot design which was part of my thesis.

I would be unsurprised if most of the people who oppose 'Social Emotional Learning' do so because it has the word 'social' in it. They see that and automatically oppose it because socialism is going to their toothbrush away or something.

I think SEL in math partly helps get past the "when am I ever going to need to know this?" Showing biography pictures of people "just like them" who put math to use to become successful helps gets past that barrier too.
