The founding (and growth) of LDS can certainly be called an accomplishment, or achievement. One of America's great corporate success stories.

The extent of their core territories you can drive for is like the western 2/5 of the (current) continental United States. You'd have enough on your plate going about that on your own.

Theoretical question: if we are to accept that Trump is currently president (as a chunk of Republicans insist), and serving his second term, should he be allowed to run for a special third term in 2024?

Should Biden be blamed for anything that goes wrong (in Trump's second term), considering that Biden is not the president?

The CEO of Disney contacted Ronnie D. to voice their concerns regarding the transgender school bill in Florida. Ron D. decided to use this as an opportunity to make enemies of the mouse.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) came out swinging hard Thursday against the Walt Disney Company for its CEO’s support of transgender instruction for kindergarteners.
...
DeSantis took it further by calling out Disney’s hypocrisy, characterizing it as a greedy company willing to die on the hill of transgenderism while coddling Communist China.

“If that’s the hill they’re going to die on, then how do they possibly explain lining their pockets with their relationship from the Communist Party of China? Because that’s what they do, and they make a fortune, and they don’t say a word about the really brutal practices that you see over there at the hands of the CCP,” he said.

“And so in Florida, our policies got to be based on the best interest of Florida citizens, not on the musing of woke corporations,” he added.
Who does something like this? Why would you make enemies of Disney?

Imagine being told by Disney that they are uncomfortable with your questionable agendas, and then you reinforce that irony by pointing out how they cave to authoritarian governments elsewhere.

Could roll the ol' wagon up to the grocery store, but I don't think they'd let me in with it. Tie it up outside and someone will steal the wheels. Can't take their shopping carts beyond the lockstrip either.

Biden's daughter is a drug addict like her brother. A Trump supporter found her diary that she left in a house she moved out of. The Trump supporter then sold it to Project Veritas to be published before the election to smear Biden. The FBI raided a bunch of homes of the people involved in the whole thing because the diary is considered stolen property. The Project V. people did a whole lot of other dubious things too that got the FBI's attention. The NYT article is a doozy. I found this part really comical though.
In July 2020, a single mother of two moved into the rented home of a former boyfriend in Delray Beach, Fla. The woman, Aimee Harris, a Trump supporter, told the former boyfriend that she had little money, had nowhere to live and was in a bitter custody dispute. Shortly after moving into the rental, Ms. Harris learned that Ms. Biden — also a friend of the former boyfriend — had been staying at the home earlier that year during the pandemic.

Ms. Biden had moved back to the Philadelphia area in June 2020, around the time her father clinched the Democratic Party’s nomination for president. She stored a couple of bags of her belongings at the rental house along with her diary, and she told her friend, who was leasing the home, that she planned to return to retrieve her things in the fall.

In August, Ms. Harris reached out to Robert Kurlander, a friend who had been sentenced to 40 months in prison in the 1990s on a federal fraud charge and had expressed anti-Biden sentiments online, to say she had found the diary. The two believed they could sell it, allowing Ms. Harris to help pay for the lawyers representing her in the custody dispute.
I get that people who are desperate do stupid things but Christ the mental gymnastics of the Trump supporters here is just wow. Imagine being near homeless and identifying with the billionaire candidate. Imagine being a jailbird and siding with the "law and order" party.

If it can be proved that Biden did stuff that should see him out of office, he should get the boot. Said the same with Trump, Obama. Plan to say the same thing for the next guy. People have tried to use this kind of thing as a "haha you hypocrite, gotcha," but I won't budge on equal opportunity impeachment.

I have no special affection for Biden. He was not my first pick. I just find it funny that these guys thought they could take down Biden by letting the world know his children have drug problems. Doubly funny when these people probably have drug problems themselves.

"The Ukraine Crisis Briefly Put America’s Culture War in Perspective"
Those first few days after Russia’s invasion revealed something important about the United States: Much of what looks like unbridgeable polarization online may be the product of boredom, distraction, and jadedness; when something real happens, people pay attention to that instead. We refresh our feeds incessantly, looking for new information and sharing it. And as a shooting war started, average users sought out experts and reputable news organizations. Google Trends, for example, showed a relative increase in searches for nuclear weapons and potassium iodide—a treatment used after radiation emergencies—while searches for Ukraine were at an all-time high. The culture war temporarily faded into the background—much as it did in the early days of 2020, when a new pathogen was still largely confined to China.
I noticed this too. Pretty amazing

What is even real anymore. Is Onion ghost-writing now?

Rudy Giuliani Says ‘Genius’ Trump Threatened To Blow Up Putin’s ‘Gold Bubbles’
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/giuliani … c938dd76bc

Rudy Giuliani said former President Donald Trump made an unusual threat to Russian President Vladimir Putin while he was in office.

Giuliani told Newsmax over the weekend that Trump had authorized him to share the details of a meeting with Putin where Ukraine came up in the conversation.

Trump “says, ‘Vladimir, you shouldn’t, like, attack Ukraine. I never liked those big, what are those things you got in Moscow, those big bubbles? Those big gold bubbles, I never liked those things, so I’m gonna have to blow them up,’” Giuliani said.

He was presumably referring to the Cathedral of the Annunciation, which is in the Kremlin and has gold onion domes.

“So Putin says, ‘They’re churches,’” Giuliani recounted. Trump said, “Oh, Vladimir, don’t tell me that about churches, c’mon. Churches? You can fool Bush, you can’t fool me. You care about churches?”

Giuliani also defended Trump’s praise of Putin as “smart.”

“That’s why he’s a genius,” Giuliani said. “Of course he says he’s smart: ‘Hey Vladimir, you’re really, really smart.’”

Work department had big meeting and the curriculum came up. (Genuinely shame Newbie couldn't be there since he would have liked the discussions more than he probably likes reminding the farm animals not to eat the dry wall or however he manages to keep them from hurting themselves.) A lot of great discussions.

Anyhow, the way it works in this state is you get three years of history in HS. World, U.S. 1, and U.S. 2. World covers 1789 to modern times. U.S. 1 goes from colonial to Civil War/Reconstruction. U.S. 2 starts at Post-reconstruction and ends with modern times. The issue with U.S. 2 is that there is so much we never get to since (A) not enough time in the year and (B) modern history is too controversial. Our department head decided to I guess be bold and make a big change to the start and stops.

U.S. 1 will now start with the Civil War and go from there. American Revolution, founding Fathers, etc. kicked down to the elementary schools to learn. "A lot of constitutional topics you would have covered in early U.S. 1 are relevant to the Civil War". The U.S. 1 teachers are probably happy. Whenever I talk about U.S. 1 they complain about how sick they are of talking about the founding fathers, the three branches, etc. for months.

U.S. 2 will now start with the Great Depression and end at modern times. Teddy R. and World War 1 now belong to U.S. 1 I guess.

I like and dislike the changes. I dislike that I will need to create new content. I was hoping to use the same material forever since World War 1 isn't going to get an expansion pack. I like that the admin seems to have our back to talk about modern things which is what the kids are genuinely interested in. The kids don't want to learn about the distant past. They want to learn the context of what is going on around them. We aren't doing right by them to not talk about the things that actually matter in their lives but instead talking about how great Washington was.

I still think U.S. 1 and 2 were fine as they were and we just needed a U.S. 3 starting at 9/11. A teacher mentioned this and our department head said "all starting points are artificial" which was again on point.

As for me, I am almost finished with a project mapping LGBT history. The state has a mandate that says we have to teach LGBT history. We have to.

I don't want to leave too stereotyped of an image for you. Not everyone at my workplace is interested in history (or wants to talk about it at work), so I don't know the extent of their knowledge or takes. But I've had some pretty cool discussions on the road, at the office, and over email/messengers. I find that the older history is, the more neutral the discussion becomes. I've chatted about that stuff with people who sometimes had more of a specialized knowledge about a period than I, have learned a few things, and have been pointed in some interesting directions.

World history starts at 1789. LOL, sure. There might as well not be a world without America in it, amirite?

Far be it for me to argue with history PhDs or whatever. But if we have to compress it into programs, wouldn't it make sense for U.S. 1 start with the American Revolution and its motivations, and U.S. 2 to start at the end of American isolationism, then finish up at the end of the Cold War (painting a higher resolution image of a shorter period of time)? In my history classes I've always felt there was a strong lack of focus on anything after WW2. I remember something about Vietnamization, but everything else was pretty much self-read.

Honestly there should be more AP programs so students who don't need to repeat the same stuff over and over again, year after year, don't have to.

Your dept head made a good point about the controversiality of modern history. People aren't taught how to keep their cool when presented with different or opposing ideas. I think it's a significant problem that rips at the social integrity of the country. If more people could do this, there'd be less fingerholds for unreliable rags like Fox.
