This could have been solved with a white flag on day 1 if there wasn't a bribed actor sitting on the presidential seat.
What about the evacuations of thousands and their homes bombed the next day where no russians were present.
The world wide persecution of russians and their businesses, seems familiar?

We got through the entire Cold War without nuclear weapons being used. The Soviet Union collapsed in on itself and didn't take the world with it in a murder-suicide. And the stakes were much higher back then. Russia's prospects were much more bleak.

Some of you guys need to pick an argument and stick with it.

>Russia has nuclear weapons and will destroy the world if they lose in Ukraine.

>The sanctions might endear the Russians to their state.

Why would a more domestically powerful Putin also destroy the world because of Ukraine?

World wide persecution...lol

Fuck them. If they want to act like the Soviet Union, they can live like it too. The sanctions could be worse. We could start banning medicine and food deliveries. We can then count the child mortality cases in the "how many kids must die" thread.

erm, what?

a bribed actor by whom? trump? lol.

i can’t keep up with all these metastasising conspiracy theories.

are you comparing russians’ plight to the jews, whilst also peddling a sinister conspiracy theory about … a jewish president?

jesus fucking christ

i didn’t say any of those things assertively and i’m not confusing any argument. i’m spitballing about the endgame of this situation.

conflicts like this have an internal logic of their own, they can escalate week on week, i don’t think comparisons to the ‘cold’ war are all that apt. we are in a ‘hot’ war and for a varied number of reasons, putin’s autocracy is both more and less fragile than the soviet union. again, there’s no politburo here, the strongmen and oligarchs he’s built as a de facto ‘institution’ are nothing like the soviet system and we shouldn’t assume it’ll play out the same way. putin’s russia is a long way from a communist technocracy.

i broadly support sanctions over military escalation. but they could trigger it anyway. i broadly support trying to curtail and pressure putin’s regime. but i recognise it could double-down their efforts and galvanise domestic support.

i think a little self-awareness about the fact that every underlying foreign policy/international relations assumption we’ve taken as orthodoxy for the last few decades is now busily being ripped up might help. russia-china (and india and brazil and iran and north korea and and) are conceivably going to upset the western hegemony in the very near future. and lots of our assumptions about this current conflict reek of that hegemony’s flawed thinking.

It almost causes physical pain to imagine living through a second Trump term right now (there are still people who believe he's serving it). One was bad enough, damage that will not easily (if ever) be reversed.

It is a good thing NATO doesn't have a mission in Afghanistan still going right now. Waste of resources.

At least we no longer have the moral baggage. "We will leave Ukraine when you leave Afghanistan".

The rate the Russians are losing equipment + how many vehicles on the books that are not operational is probably putting a dent in the tWeLvE MiLlIoN aRmOrEd VeHiCleS.

I mostly posted about what happened, what might've driven her to suicide and childhood abuse. You also somehow figured temazepam was an antipsychotic rather than insomnia medication, so I'm not too sure your interpretation of those posts to 'fill out' my person reflects a good understanding of who I am. Which is an asinine assumption anyway as we've never once spoken to one another. I'm also somewhat concerned that those rather heavy and painful topics apparently were a missing link of sorts.

You're not exactly helping your case in appearing to be anything other than a cunt most of the time, uziq. My understanding of you is much simpler: smart, but deeply unpleasant.

Original story, with 'normal' hat: https://www.foxnews.com/us/free-conceal … a-shooting from 2018. The context here is that he was supposedly interviewed where he commented about Russia vs. Ukraine. Link to that? Was ne not wearing the hat there? I'm also pretty sure I saw this same photoshop long ago.

Don't get me wrong though, this guy does come off as some grade of douche who probably doesn't need photoshop to raise eyebrows.

The sheriff of one opioid-ravaged Ohio county is refusing to equip his deputies with Narcan, the drug that has saved the lives of countless overdosing addicts.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones insists he is not heartless but says requiring deputies to administer the remedy puts them in danger and the cost of repeatedly treating people with Narcan is “sucking the taxpayers dry.”

"All we're doing is reviving them, we’re not curing them," Jones told NBC News on Friday. "One person we know has been revived 20 separate times."

But, Jones hastened to add, "We don’t go there and let people die."

"Here in Ohio, the live squads (paramedics) get in there about the same time and they’re more equipped to use Narcan," he said. "The people who use drugs don’t usually like the police and they turn violent once they're revived."
2017. I want to see him qualify that "sucking the taxpayers dry" statement. How does ($70) a dose suck the taxpayers dry in comparison to upkeeping police forces that want to play army. I'll give him a point on our social welfare sucking major balls, though.

Celebrities: "We're moving out of the country if Trump wins again!"
Sherriff: "I'll help you pack!"

This is one of those bipartisan fails I think. Does anyone ever actually bail?

Recently on COVID: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/bu … ar-AAT2KSf

Jones urged residents in the video to get vaccinated, wear masks and to avoid large crowds as much as possible.

"My attitude has changed immensely," Jones added. "I’ve had three employees in the Butler County Sherif’s offie in the last 12 months that have died from COVID."

Also featured in the video was Medical Director for the Butler County Jail Dr. Anthony Abdullah, who Jones invited to talk about what he is seeing during the current Omicron spike.

Abdullah reiterated many health officials by saying while the new variant is causing an increase in case numbers, vaccinated individuals seem to be doing well.

Down the rabbit hole of articles about this guy, found this bizarre story:

Civilian in Butler County helps stop robbery suspect at a grocery story Sunday morning
https://news.yahoo.com/civilian-butler- … 35143.html

A civilian helped catch a man in Butler County Sunday morning after the suspect attempted to steal a woman's pursue, the Butler County Sheriff's Office said in a release.

At approximately 11:07 a.m., 58-year-old Middletown resident Derek Vauhn attempted to steal the purse of an 87-year-old woman while inside the Kroger on Oxford State Road in Lemon Township.

According to the release, a 27-year-old witness to the crime stopped Vauhn and wrestled with the suspect until law enforcement arrived.

The identity of the woman or the witness who intervened has not been released at this time.

Vauhn was arrested with the help of the Trenton Police Department and charged with robbery, a felony of the third degree, and theft, a felony of the fifth degree.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones said in the statement that "he is always pleased when someone who preys on the elderly are caught and even prouder of civilians who step up and intervenes when citizens need help."
Fair enough I guess, but I would really like to chew out the editor for not somehow fitting "zoomer stops boomer" into the headline.
