Rudy made his gradual transition to the Republican party decades ago. He was a Democrat in his early days.

Transparty?

Transpublican?

He is a literal cross dresser.

Who would do something like that? I bet it was his idea.

This also came up in the search. For Uzique

Just had this chat with my coworkers. Living near the city center means I get instantly killed while this sucker in the suburbs has a more agonizing experience. I see this as an absolute win.

I would prefer the agonizing experience. I don't want to die not knowing it was about to happen. That way if there is an after life, I would know I was there and be able to hit the ground running. And if there isn't an after life ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I'd like to think I could put two and two together if I woke up in a big mystical void with no memory of how I got there or anything that happened between what I was last doing and what I'd be doing then. I wouldn't mind hanging around to see the solar system at least come to a conclusion, knowing whether or not humans make it out, or succumb to the ravages of Earth/space environment or "extinction debt." It's a nice thought at least, avoiding a personal identity death as it's typically understood.

Forever-reincarnation is an interesting idea for sci-fi/fantasy. What happens if the planet ceases to support life? Are you reincarnated somewhere else? If terrestrial life begins to exist on multiple worlds, would you be stuck on one or bounce between multiples? Is a soul bound by light speed limitations?

Will Rudy be reincarnated as an alien mountain goat on Altair III?

It is a lot to think about. Each person probably approaches it in their own way, informed by a lifetime of experiences. Do you know what affects experiences? Your height. How tall are you?

IMO there are a range of socially acceptable tallnesses and shortnesses before people get strangely weirded out. A 6'7" man for instance, welcome on the corporate basketball team, but probably mocked behind his back for gigantism or something. In our country at least, I think men may have a slightly wider higher range of socially acceptable heights than women. For women, it seems like 4-6", while men get nearly a foot.

Does the part of the universe supposedly in charge of reincarnation really care about or have its own sense of irony?

You will reincarnate into the world of intelligent corvids that take over the planet when humans go away, as an cab driving anti-vax crow. The local crow engineer you try to make small talk with while driving him home will teach his offspring to sit on telephone wires and angrily shout at you whenever you pass by.

i know this is part of ukraine’s necessary information war as they need help, but all these POW videos make me feel super-uncomfortable. there’s a whole genre that’s sprung up this week, of ukrainians humiliating the POWs, making them praise ukraine and denounce russia, etc.

i’m pretty sure the rules of war forbid this sort of intimidation? putting a camera in someone’s face and making them say shit under implicit threat of being shot or hurt or whatever.

It bothers me as well, and also that their faces weren't blurred out. A few of them say the exact same thing, feels quite rehearsed. None of the prisoners seemed unworried or in good spirits. I think it kind of chips away some of the moral high ground Ukraine claimed with supposedly treating their POWs well. Info wars like you say, but this video and ones like it swim with implicit threat.

The comments sections on these can be vividly brutal as well in tone.

People in general have a warped view of what is going on. Can't fault them, considering these sorts of videos and other BS on the internet, but the situation on the ground is much worse than (social) media will lead you to believe. Not a hard conclusion to reach though.

Someone posted about reddit v twitter before; the one time I posted on reddit in this context to share a little more in depth on russian doctrine and capabilities, what's been happening the past few days and likely course of action vis-a-vis Ukraine, I got downvoted. That place is full of morons, but some subreddits are useful to gather some more info, like videos if ppl put in the effort to cross-check and verify authenticity.

Anyway if you want a good open-source resource for reporting and analyses of what is going on I recommend ISW: understandingwar.org. They're producing daily updates at the moment and the quality is generally quite good.

It's been posted as soon as Russia rolled in that the internet would be awash with misinformation about the conflict, even from normally reputable sources, and to take everything with a grain of salt. (e: beware of articles that trigger strong emotions, blah blah blah manipulations etc.)

Downvotes are both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it sometimes helps outline poor content (youtube). On the other, mobs don't have the best judgment, and the internet points mentality is genuinely toxic. This is why I don't post on reddit or facebook or whatever. I've actually seen it consume people.

So Britain's corruption bill won't take effect until 18 months after its passed - allowing the oligarchs plenty of time to liquidate their assets and shift their money - and Roman Abramovitch - Britain's highest profile oligarch and closest to Putin - still isn't on the sanction list.

There's something fishy in Johnson being so coy.

something fishy? the conservative party have about £13 million in donations on their ledgers from russian sources. and you can bet that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

roman abramovich’s daughter went to my university. she took a helicopter most days, or was driven around campus in a bulletproof, blacked out range rover with a permanent bodyguard detail. she was allowed to party at the bars on campus a few times.

can you imagine? me at my partying peak crossing paths with her. i bet she’d take drugs with me. ah, the life not lived … call me, darling. memory lane is easier to traverse than ukrainian countryside.

I think in all this fervor that people may lose sight that too many thoughtless punishments will drive (some) Russians deeper into Putin's arms. Cooler heads need to prevail.

we are turning the screw on their economy in a way that we haven't done even with iran/north korea/venezuela. it is unprecedented. they are small, isolated countries and international pariahs (with some exception for venezuela). russia has been a huge part of the global order, its fossil fuel-economy, and now has 140,000,000 people facing very real deprivation.

for some reason dilbert is obsessed with UK oligarchs, who are an influential bunch, to be sure, whilst ignoring that the central bank measures we are opting for are the 'nuclear' option in terms of economic warfare.

It is interesting seeing just how far their economy can be knocked down.

There is a reddit sub promoting volunteering to fight in Ukraine. About 30,000 subscribers. Plenty of post by veterans going to go fight. It may seem ridiculous but back during the height of ISIS, some posters in /r/SyrianCivilWar did end up fighting for the Islamic State. A lot more found their way to fight for the Kurds. The DoD was monitoring the sub too. Considering the media and governments are giving their blessing to people going to fight, this could turn into a big thing.

it coincides with korea's march 1st independence day/march 1st movement.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_1st_Movement

a lot of koreans are finding an affinity with the ukrainians in this. which is no doubt amplifying the feelings over token gestures like stripping putin of their martial art's top recognition, etc.
