I don't know. Once we remove China from equation, she is another celebrity athlete making poor choices in real life and the internet. Did they have a vigil in Beijing for Colin Kaepernick? The government didn't put him under house arrest but people are pretty bloodthirsty about all that. And he didn't even get to have sex with the NFL commissioner's wife while he was home.
China could disappear from the face of the planet, a literal void on the surface of the Earth, and sexually exploiting young stars and athletes wouldn't cease to be a problem.

i don't think it's comparable. young female athletes + male dominated coaching/administrations. plus the angle of individual sports with often times very toxic trainer-student relations. the tennis academy system is monstrous even in the west, let alone under totally inscrutable systems in places like china.

I think we could avoid all of the international drama if we just didn't make a big deal about sports. Probably should end the Olympics and stop putting little flags next to people's name when they go to hit a ball over a net. China is silly for getting into sports because of international competition. They should be trying to be the best at calligraphy or something.

I think all of us here are sympathetic with Ukrainians and critical of the invasion. But some of us seem a little too violently gleeful about the human misery caused by sanctions. Too into it. It's creepy, ghoulish, and needs to be reined in a bit. And even if you are to look at it from a purely selfish perspective, this stuff affects things on an international level. I don't think people talking up the sanctions have hungry children on their minds when they talk about it. People want some justice for all of the suffering unleashed by Russia government and the people it represents. Sanctioning them into the ground is the closest thing we will get to justice.

I think shutting a country out helps authoritarian governments keep their country shut out and in control. It could be argued in some ways that long term sanctions haven't brought North Koreans or Cubans any closer to establishing democratic liberties.

I'm pretty sure I've also been critical of US foreign policies and histories with Iran and South/Central America as well. If I haven't here, then I'll just mention it now.
