There were many good features of that film in terms of truetotheoriginalness.
The X-Men movie made a referential joke to the yellow spandex in the dialog. They might as well have actually had yellow spandex at that point.

I was watching Friends at the dentist. Never watched this show before. David Swimmer was going nuts about Rachel. Like every snippet of this show I have watched involved this dude being weird about Rachael.

It's creepy. Let it go dude.

Having not seen the animated one or even a lot of clips, I don't know the difference. I do know that there's a lot of sitcom stuff in anime though. It isn't all Goku fights and over-the-top gore.

Going to watch Hamilton with the kids. This week is short due to the Christmas break starting.

I tried watching Hamilton once but didn't care for it. Maybe it was the copy I got that wasn't great. Going to buy it straight from Amazon Prime steaming this time instead of YouTube.

Newbie said I'm developing national review brain from hate reading them so much but one writer did say something nice about Hamilton once. They called it a very patriotic play that right wingers shouldn't dismiss.

I chaperoned a winter break party for the theater, language, and arts clubs. About a hundred kids eating pizza, snacks, and cake after school. They fundraised their party. The nerdy theater and arts kids brought a karaoke machine.

They went nuts when one group started singing this song from the show.

https://youtu.be/KAnVd7Fxb0g

Crowd of nerdy and LGBT kids roared "1776!" So funny. Shame some of the very patriotic (and totally not secretly gay) Republicans who hate on the show and kids and the gays couldn't see this group of nerdy kids going nuts singing a song about the American Revolution. Very patriotic. And no cops got hit with any American flags.

So you actually can't buy Hamilton on Amazon or elsewhere. You can only watch it on Disney+. Shame. I borrowed a Disney+ account to be able to watch it. Really hate the fact that I couldn't at least buy it on Amazon.

The Witcher season 2

7.5/10. Much better TV than the first season. A more coherent, mostly linear story. Still not exactly groundbreaking in any way (understatement) but certainly an amusing show.

hasn't it been cancelled already? who cares.

at some point all you nerds are going to have to learn to live with the fact that your favourite things are going to be dug up from their graves and cashed-in, on recurring cycles, forever. netflix trying to get some moolah out of beloved animes is no less surprising to me than star wars being made into the 13th sequel with a new line of toys. was this stuff ever intended to be sacred? comic books and anime are basically printed on toilet paper for japanese schoolchildren, no?

Mac keeps going on about my floor tiles quote. Let's explore that.

unnamednewbie13 wrote:

What a thankless task, making a live-action adaptation of an anime. Gamers and anime nerds are among the worst fans, I think. Lots of unnecessary changes probably, but even close adaptations of stuff have been picked apart. "Lazy filmmakers, stolen ideas. Already seen this stuff. Could've changed it up a bit!" "The floor tiles aren't in the same spots!"
My point is the nerds will always find something to be upset about, and there are no limits to its inanity. "I already saw the anime, this is boring and they could have put their own spin on it." "It's too different, two thumbs down."

Remaking or adapting stuff just seems like a thankless task in all but the most successful of productions. Even then, Peter Jackson was the bad guy for changing a few things. LotR nerds can be some of the most tedious gatekeepers out there, figuratively pushing up their glasses and pointing out why you're wrong on something because of some recombobulated notes from Chris Tolkien. Wow, ok. Imagine if you used your encyclopedic brain for something like law.

Disney does a live action adaptation, Disney fans lose their collective minds. Who cares if the new version is good or bad. The original still exists. Newer generations being unfamiliar with your childhood favorites is just a part of the passage of time. I remember one time while practicing guitar, I upset a boomer relative who asked me to play a song by a title I was unfamiliar with. "Come on, it's ELVIS! It was played at my WEDDING." Uh yeah, before I was born, like I'd remember that. AITA?

Coincidentally I find myself watching a lot of korean tv shows lately. They've really started making an entrance in international streaming services since 2021. Kingdom, Squid Game, Silent Sea, Hellbound...

They're not necessarily amazing imo but different enough from usual western tv fare and the usual formula's to be interesting.

Promise sort of fulfilled, mac: I've been rounded up to watched some of Z Nation and Black Summer. Not from start to finish or even all in order, but enough.

Rating: they're alright, for zombie fare. A little slow at times. Probably better than Walking Dead as it droned on. I've got to say that with pandemic experience under our belt, people being exaggeratedly stupid in a zombie apocalypse doesn't really break my immersion the way it used to.

Last bit of BS caught was while I was in another room and I heard that Tweedle-Dum broke a ham radio in a fit in one of the scenes after him murdering a girl.

Last bit of ZN caught was the disappointing performance of the Chinese special forces. Why did they all stand around looking at the laser grenade that takes 17 years to scan you before shooting a metal spike into your head? How did those metal spikes even fit into the grenade? They seem longer than the diameter. We didn't even get to know them that well. Lieutenant Wong's (or whatever his name was) death had no impact. Just along for the ride while they hit every dumb zombie trope after looking pretty competent in earlier scenes, a bit jarring. Like they were just an "Asian chick delivery device," if I want to put it cynically.

Murphy reminds me of the colloidal silver guy. I don't know why they used "vitamin deficiency" as an excuse for his skin tone and not alternative medicine.

I never watched past the first episode of Z Nation. It is really bad in my opinion. Black Summer is awesome. Seems you started in season 2? Season 2 is the better one.

The house setup was great. Your introduction to the inside of the house is a massacre. Suspenseful when you meet the people when they are alive.

Black Summer and Z Nation are made by the same producer. Black Summer is like Z Nation all grown up. I would trade Army of the Dead for Season 3 of Black Summer in an instant.

Based off of you have seen so far, what is the central theme of Season 2? Season 1 really doesn't have one but season 2 does.

Z Nation has its ups and downs. It's weird that the most interesting episode I watched was the backstory flashback collection.

Haven't seen enough for analysis on either, but it they are both decidedly zombie survival with a side of soap.

I think it's that the most interesting part of zombie movies for me is when it's just starting and nobody has a clue what's going on. The hardened wasteland survivor stuff just gets drawn out for soooo long in TV.

In Z Nation, there was a rolling ball of zombies like a more feral Indian Terminator, so that was fun.

I also prefer the world is ending portion of the Zombie apocalypses. I don't want to run around a wasteland alone. I want to watch the apocalypses on CNN and Reddit.

Before you settle down with a girl just make sure you can be happy with her if she was 3 sizes bigger. The female body never fully recovers from childbirth.

She's definitely voluptuous, but I personally like my ladies on the slighter side. There's something to be said for a large chest, certainly lingerie actually makes sense on those body types and is quite a bit more boring on more athletic types.
Phat, but not my preferred

Always funny recognizing (or thinking that you recognize) individual zombie and monster sound effects from like 30+ years ago. Some of them triggered some Left for Dead memories, though I'm unsure without comparing waveforms. Another I seem to recall from old Doom, though I do think it appeared before the game.
