I understand people have to let some fish go due to regulations, but going out just for some catch & release fun with no intention of eating any of your catch seems a little psychopathic. Especially hook & line.

The guy in the video "do you understand anything about marine biology?" I wonder what his understanding of it was.

Fish can't feel pain (maybe? IDK LOL) so it is okay to kill them.

Fishing is a way for fat men to feel like outdoorsman. Why are there so few obese vegans? Perhaps stuffing your face with meat isn't good for you. Oh and these are the same people who would call me gaaaaaay for liking iced coffee and avocado toast.

Video is informative. Question isn't often well outlined or explained.

Another fish issue, you know all the photos of anglers holding their fish before they release it?
Holding them like that damages their organs and they just die later.

At least this stock photo character went to the actual outdoors to get his fish photo. He isn't some fat man on a pier in blue city arguing with the vegans hipsters who went there to smoke pot and do whatever it is that they do nowadays. God bless them.

See also fish grips vs. nets.

My understanding is that people are still working to better understand the physical and psychological impact we have on wildlife. I think a safe rule of thumb would be if you're just doing it for fun, find something else to do.

Lost/discarded fishing gear is also a massive problem.

Here the numbnuts govt have stocked the recreational reservoir with fish.

You dumb fucker.

As we know anglers and canoeists get on great don't they.

Cats are evil because they toy with their prey, fishing is one of the epic sports because you can play with a fish for hours.

Also caged hunting is bad, tanked fishing is good - discuss.

Wow, I just noticed something distressing about the fish video. The man is fat. The dude has a hobby where he plays with food for hours. He then will post on social media about the food he captured. It's insane. It is like someone posting a picture of themselves with a bowl of cereal after playing with it for hours.

Maybe I have been wrong about hunters all of this time. Maybe the KILLING isn't the thing that gets them off. Maybe it is some kind of sexual thing about food.

* Hook and line fishing, questionable.
* Recreational and professional fishing detritus, problematic.
* Domestic cats killing wildlife, a responsibility of humans considering they're introduced pet animals (keep your cats secure. -sincerely, audobon). Nobody's saying they're evil.

There are probably some environmental benefits to stocking lakes and ponds with fish. Probably not the same moral conundrum as cage hunting, or completely psychopathic hobbies like canned pigeon shoots.

A friend of mines sole interest is in blasting wildlife.

I know someone at the shooting club who has bought an area of land - and now plans to stock it with foxes and rabbits so he has something to shoot.

Pure retardation.

If it's not illegal, that still doesn't mean it isn't weird.

Foxes and rabbits are considered vermin

Meme hunter quote "We need to shoot all these pests, they're causing havoc, but don't shoot them all - we need them to breed so we have some to shoot next year"

I wonder if the city would let me stock a warehouse with a bunch of wild rats for bowhunting "because vermin," or if they'd tell me they don't want a rat infestation introduced to an area of town.

The thing with the rabbits and foxes is kind of startling. Where I live they'll get mad if you trap and release to remove pests from your neighborhood. Problem beavers are destroyed if there isn't a place to take them in, because they will cause territorial disputes with other beavers if left in the wilderness. I couldn't imagine just dumping a bunch of foxes even in nearby rural country.

How do you propose they deal with the mosquito problem if that reservoir isn't stocked with fish?

time to invite another 3-page endless discussion of poor fashion choices.

i bought a thick down jacket for the remaining months of winter and into spring. never worn one of these things before but the jumper+trenchcoat combo is barely covering it in my new climes.

yes, i will totally be doing this.

I'd never previously looked up climate info for England (yes, only hearing of gloomy, rainy days as the stereotype goes) and was surprised to learn what a narrow band the temperature seems to stay in. I wouldn't have guessed that people may not own winter coats.

england is extremely mild. it's pretty far north latitudinally but is pretty much surrounded by a warm belt of water from the mexican gulf stream. which also accounts for the stereotype of it raining a lot, especially on the atlantic seaboard of ireland/scotland/wales (it actually rains more per year in paris than london, but the stereotype has stuck).

in the UK we get about 1 or 2 weeks per year of snow, perhaps, or anything approaching serious winter weather. i've almost always made do with a trenchcoat, knitwear, scarves/gloves, etc. that doesn't work in korea. it's -15 and even more with the biting windchill. need actual thermal clothes.

i’m not sure why anyone would choose to. horrible stuff to drink casually and often.

prosecco or sparkling wines are popular. if you’re a divorced middle-aged woman.

I’ve been diving more into Italian red wines lately. Really embracing my Italian heritage and suburban pedigree. Chianti and Barolos. I pretty much switched out beer for wine unless I’m out with the bros at a bar that doesn’t have a good wine selection. Do I feel pretentious? No, not at all. Am I? Probably a bit

Nothing pretentious about enjoying wine. Nobody bats an eyelid at the friend who knows all the craft beers, wine is no different.

i switched out everything for makgeolli and soju. i don’t care anymore. makgeolli is a peasant farmer’s drink here, except for fancy designer/modern brands made by young start-ups.

it has 1/5 the calories of beer and is probiotic. i was putting on way too much weight from the asian beers + all night street food lifestyle. makgeolli for life.

organic wine is currently very in vogue here. some super nice wine bars (coffee shops too). i mean some of the best wine bars i have ever been to. they really don’t fuck around with the details out here.
