It was confirmed last year (I think) that GTA6 was in production. I don't think we can expect either game for awhile.

I might pick up the GTA trilogy remaster if it's any good. I have the Mafia one (along with the original), which is better in some ways and worse in others. I'm not going to run out and buy the old GTA trilogy though unless it's the price of a sandwich.

Started Steam just now. Wants to restart because of an update. Again.

Uninstalling.

Can't even load the info on its patch notes screen.

The little chime noise it makes when it doesn't want you clicking anything can go back to 2005.

Bought RDR2 on sale, shuffled towards the front of the line on the backburner. Also a couple HOI4 expansions for the next time I want to stay up all night.

Peace Island is a open-world, story-driven adventure game, currently under development.

The story – a mix of science fiction, alternative history, and mystery – unfolds from the perspective of the nine cats who call the island home, when they wake up to find their human companions gone.

“Peace Island” will be (as the name might imply,) a non-violent interactive story which will focus on discovery, atmosphere, and exploration, rather than combat.  The player will have the opportunity to experience multiple divergent storylines, as they approach the ultimate decision:

“Are the humans worth bringing back?”

Games where you play a straight-up non-humanoid are relatively rare. Even in stuff with dragons, you're usually a rider. Divinity 2 was a happy medium, where it just let you shapeshift into a dragon if there's an enemy settlement you want gone.

seems like arty hipster bullshit. no combat or guns? wtf. how do you win?

storylines are for novel-reading women.

Some of the best games I've played in recent years have actually been non- or low-combat, and story driven fare.

Fullbright's Gone Home, Tacoma. Old favorites from Lucasarts and Legend Ent. Stardew Valley has combat if you want, otherwise pretty chill. Lots of zen building and decorating in Sims 4 and House Flipper. I want to get into Disco Elysium at some point after I've progressed far enough into RDR2. Hopefully grand theft horse will run well enough on my PC. The RTX is probably going to have some carrying to do.

@dilbert: I might have mentioned this one before. Choice of the Cat. Can grab it on steam or just play it here.

This and the series thread got me thinking: which game actually has the best story?

Top of mind, among the games I've played, RDR2 is a good one.

That's a really tough question. Hard to decide where to start. Sometimes story-driven games have poor stories, and sometimes ones where it isn't really critical do a very decent job at it (for a video game).

In other news sure to amuse at least one person here, apparently Forza Horizon 5 is in hot water with some trans players for "deadnaming" them based on their Microsoft accounts: https://www.thegamer.com/trans-players- … eadnaming/

I'm not going to waste time discounting whatever anxiety or negative blow that caused, but it doesn't really seem intentional on the part of the devs, who probably just didn't think about it. Maybe if your old name is that devastating, change it on all your various accounts so that text-to-speech won't ever randomly chirp it into your ear?

Easily patched I'd think with a dialogue box asking to yes/no confirm your name based on what's detected when you start a new game, along with a "don't ask again" checkbox. Refunding or getting it canceled seems a little silly.

Somebody took the Town of Cats thing from 1Q84 and ran with it.
In fact, this is a town of cats. When the sun starts to go down, many cats come trooping across the bridge—cats of all different kinds and colors. They are much larger than ordinary cats, but they are still cats. The young man is shocked by this sight. He rushes into the bell tower in the center of town and climbs to the top to hide. The cats go about their business, raising the shop shutters or seating themselves at their desks to start their day’s work. Soon, more cats come, crossing the bridge into town like the others. They enter the shops to buy things or go to the town hall to handle administrative matters or eat a meal at the hotel restaurant or drink beer at the tavern and sing lively cat songs. Because cats can see in the dark, they need almost no lights, but that particular night the glow of the full moon floods the town, enabling the young man to see every detail from his perch in the bell tower. When dawn approaches, the cats finish their work, close up the shops, and swarm back across the bridge.

a truly terrible writer for an edgy doomster demographic.

grown adults shouldn’t read murakami. cat towns appeal only to little weirdo maladapts and furries.

Hmm, sounds about me.

There was an article about his T-shirts in the Atlantic today.

It must be hard having a job where you have to come up with new bullshit to talk about everyday. I could do it though.

CoH3 prealpha.

Didn't enjoy it this time. I only ever play compstomp idc about pvp.
issues:
New unit icons look weird.
Stuttering when moving around the map.
Breaching killing a whole squad when I was attacking them the whole time they setup and only one guy was left when it triggered.
Friendly AI is more useless than previous games. I'm not very good but it felt like a 2v1
Faction selection is its own screen for some reason.
Took like 8 rockets to kill a light tank

Game loaded super quick though. I'm sure it'll be fixed

Well that doesn't sound good. Not a lot of high hopes about them significantly fixing AI at this point unless they really buckle down. Are traffic jams at least better, or does it largely feel as awkward as the previous games?

In other news, I picked up a copy of The Riftbreaker. It's weird that the main character is an environmentalist scientist with grudges against factory planets and slaughtering alien wildlife, but you're building a factory planet and slaughtering alien wildlife. So far she isn't really commenting on that as she does it, so I can only guess there's a chip in her brain selectively suppressing short term memories.

It's like aoe4. They're playing it safe. It's a bit of coh1, a bit of coh2, and a little bit of new. Didn't get many vehicles, seemed the same though.

I haven't played Cyberpunk since the bait and switch tutorial. Actually I tried to play the combat tutorial and it was not good. I got stuck at a part and didn't feel like youtubing it since I was in no mood to continue.

I will probably refund it. The bait and switch was a crime.

I am trying the new HOI4 DLC. I like a lot of it. The new supply system is cool. I destroyed almost a million trapped Italians in my version of Operation Torch as the U.S.

The bad: Soviet Union is fucking disaster. They nerfed the Soviets hard and boosted the Germans. I understand most HOI4 players play as Germany for uh reasons but right now Germany just steamrolls the Soviets and there is little I was able to do as the U.S. Steamrolling the Soviets seems to be common. That's disappointing.

I am hearing a lot of good stuff about AoE4 elsewhere. I might pick it up when it's on a good enough sale. Not in a huge hurry to get into the multiplayer scene, and even then would only for coop.

I don't like your news about it taking 8 shots to kill an armored car, though. Is it doing damage, or just getting deflected or not registered?

I am going to be super disappointed if there are traffic jams on a bridge because of an abandoned machine gun that a tank doesn't want to roll over. Send Patton out to shoot it and push it off the side.

One of the biggest things I wanted from a CoH3 ever since the first game was for infantry to be given brains and reliably scramble to cover without being asked. I realize that in some respects that veers away from traditional RTS micro, but come one. A similar setting could be present for vehicles as well to park themselves or advance/retreat cautiously, and try and put hard cover between themselves and incoming effective fire. I was fumbling with reverse orders for awhile because the game kept changing that around.

If you didn't preorder, here's what you would have gotten:

Powerful rendition, combined with HoI themes. Maybe Paradox will release it separately, or someone will put it in a mod. I intended to preorder because I knew I was picking it up anyway (I have everything else), but I kept sitting on it and then Steam would clear my idle cart at the end of the week.

The mod mechanics itself, minmaxed tanks OP, and supply depots ridiculously OP. I don't know if any of that has been nerfed since. I still need to see if some of the TCs I have installed have updated.

Music for a proper Soviet campaign:

I don't listen to in game music. I turn off the music, lower the master volume, and listen to podcast.

The supply depot's are super cool. In anticipation of fighting Japan, I fortified the Philippines. It was nice to see the soldiers have supply instead of depleting like they would have in the other patches. Was really enjoying that playthrough until the Soviets got rolled. Disappointing since I knew gridlock would be the norm..

should be more or less covered here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/de … s.1489330/

tracks are in the construction tab on the bottom pane

e: the game actually has a fairly decent soundtrack and a jukebox mode. I'd give it a go for a few hours of gameplay at least.

I get the concept of trains and railroads. I am curious if there is a way to build trains like you build convoys or are they autogenerated?

Research it in support companies, bottom of the page. Build in production tab, infantry & artillery. Civilian train becomes outdated I think with one or both of war austerity train or armored train.

Thanks. What do you think of the balance? I hate seeing the Soviet Union do so poorly.

Soviet Union stomps. A lot of their Achilles' heel can be armored up with supply and new tank mechanics. Never struggle in the Winter War again, for example. Of course since it's a new DLC, Paradox might have nerfed a few things.

It's annoying to me that the rail artillery debuff doesn't stack with more pieces in range. Imagine getting shelled by a hundred of the things and thinking "eh, not much worse than one."

e: can also afford to ignore navy for awhile in favor of prioritizing tanks and planes. as usual, probably get some speedy minelayers out and saturating your coastal waters.

haven't played much with the floating supplies for sea invasions. might have to do a little scenario to experiment with that.
