I think the IOC should threaten to ban the Chinese from their own Olympics unless China improves what its doing for the Olympics (Censorship of the Internet for one).  I'm pretty sure something as embarrassing at that would convince them to change their minds.
They only banned certain non game related sites (porn and tibet stuff). As far as I know that is still well within their sovereign right.

Anything is well within their rights, because they don't have any

I've said before that I think it's stupid to have the Olympics in a police state. I'm just not naive enough to think the IOC is about to change anything in China.

Nobody tells China what to do.. nobody.

Well frankly, China needs to start being dictated to. They cop it too easy all the time because we don't want to piss them and their economy off. Fuck em, I say. The rest of the world can produce the same shit just as easily.

But nowhere near as cheaply. Oh and the main reason we don't want to piss them off is because we want to sell our shit to a previously closed market of 1.3bn people...

Personally, I think the Olympics are a waste of time.  We should've stopped doing them ever since the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

That's not necessarily true, Cameron. You can always find cheap workforces. Just ask most British construction workers what they think of the Polish.

China is actually becoming more expensive than the piss poor countries that haven't developed nearly as fast as China has.  For example, India and Indonesia are becoming cheap alternatives to China.

They devalue their currency quite a bit. The average Chinese person might only make 6k a year but 6k buys a lot more in China. That is something that a communist country can get a way with.

You have a point. But that's not telling them what to do. That's telling them what you are going to do.

This convo is now sounding eerily similar to something I heard the other night.

Tickets for the Beijing 2022 winter Olympics will be sold to spectators from mainland China only, while unvaccinated athletes must spend 21 days in quarantine ahead of the Games, the International Olympic Committee said on Wednesday.
The fucking gall of these people. I pray that this is the straw that breaks the camel's back regarding the Olympics. Boycott it.

To be fair, if the Olympics couldn't be held at countries engaging in some form of belligerency, that would narrow some of the venue choices.

LinkedIn said on Thursday that it was shutting down its professional networking service in China later this year, citing “a significantly more challenging operating environment and greater compliance requirements.”

The service, which is owned by Microsoft, said it would offer a new app focused solely on job postings in China. The new app will not have social networking features such as sharing posts and commenting, which have been critical to LinkedIn’s success in the United States and elsewhere.
Dilbert is about to get much fewer Asians looking for professional services.

I noticed a lot more Asians on Facebook dating. Either the service finally hit the threshold where the Asians joined or they are all bots. There should be an investigation.

So how about China disappearing that Tennis star who claimed rape? Then they release a fake letter retracting the claim. Despicable.

The whole incident reminds me of what Woodrow Wilson said about the Germans at the Paris Peace Conference.

"The Germans are really a stupid people. They always do the wrong thing. They always did the wrong thing during the war. They don't understand human nature."

The Chinese government always does the wrong thing. It's a shame our money helped build up this nightmare state.
