While we're on audio, does anyone know the precise reason why elevator music and automated voices in for being on hold in 2021 seem purposefully downtuned to sound like they're coming out of a phone from 1970? Like I can watch youtube with at least normal sounding audio on my smartphone.

probably so that non-native speakers can understand what they're saying. downtuned in pitch = a slowed down source recording.

That would make sense, but it's still degraded past the point I'd expect for the speech if it was pitch-shifted and slowed. Doesn't explain the tin-can jazz or classical music either.

I refreshed my work wardrobe for my new job. I got 8 dress shirts, 4 pairs of pants. Today I will buy some shoes, inshallah

If you're going to spend that much on a watch, why not buy a Rolex?

Buying a $4000 Rolex is like buying an entry level Mercedes.

I bet you think you are too good for a 3 series BMW too?

3 series have their niche. BMWs are more performance cars. Mercedes are luxury sedans

I would feel out the corporate culture before committing to a car. Very judgmental environment sometimes.

You don't think parking this in the faculty lot will go over well?

Car selection is politics. Don't want to be seen by workers as making more than you should, but also don't want to be seen by execs as being poor.

In contracting, you gotta curate yourself something like an F-150 with a strategically-placed dent. If you get yourself a beater from the 80s or older, you can call it a an ongoing restoration project for at least a few years before the excuse wears out.

I mentioned before that since our salaries are public record we all know how much each person makes. They hired an assistant superintendent a little while ago. $180,000 salary.

That's almost as much as Ken, who thinks he is too good for an entry level Mercedes, makes. I don't know what I would do with that much money. Drive a Porsche into work while dressed like Al Capone probably wouldn't be it though.

I would probably never own a Mercedes. Cars are too utilitarian for me to buy a luxury car.

Check out the Rivian R1S. Headlights of perpetual surprise, lol.

Seen a few of them driving around here with the crazy wrap they put on cars when they don't want them to be photographed. Very weird looking head and tail lights.

Still seems nuts to me when I'm checking out specs and see the section on all the radars, lidars, and various other sensors a car has. Some of the back to the future star trek stuff I was hoping for in years past.

Side note, in hearts of iron 4, radars, etc. are opt-in for your navy. Mac might agree with me that the system is a little annoying when you have a vast capital ship to refit, but can only choose two out of radar, sonar, or fire control computers. There are mods that improve that, though.

There's a lot that needs to be improved upon in that game. Doesn't make sense that you can't upgrade your ships with new tech unless you get the whatever points you need. Can't make bigger templates unless you get those points.

Navy experience doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. That "currency" should be used on accelerated training or bring your crews up to speed with new technologies (+org for new refits?), not on refits. If XP must be used for something here, use it on squeezing out an additional loadout slot on a hull.

Ships aren't improved the same way as tanks or planes. I think this is largely left over from the original implementation of naval forces. IIRC the army's going to get a pack for similar kinds of upgrades, and can only imagine the sheer chaos this is going to cause for TC mods until they get patched up.

Hoping to reduce frame slap and improve reliability with light loads

A bit annoyed the firing pin plunger safety is
a) Dumb and doesn't allow for short trigger travel
b) Not really very safe as the catch could easily break or wear out
c) So poorly regulated it allows the hammer to drop before the firing pin is released if the trigger stop is set just wrong

On a competition pistol a firing pin safety is pretty silly really
