Sometimes the mishmash of laws works out though. Gay marriage and pot would still be illegal if we needed to get 60 senators to vote yes on that. I have heard conservatives (smart ones, good ones) argue that federalism is a actually a great thing for our country. California can be a state where they try different things and people enjoy being alive and Texas can live out being closet cases before they get stuffed into FEMA ice cream trucks. The meme of "freedom of religion" being "freedom from religion" has a somber clarity to it, but don't let that stop Christians from yammering on about how the (their interpretation of) (their) bible should be central in education or whatever.

Probably a better chance now than he would have otherwise. The advice is for people to go get the vaccine. Republicans who have gotten the vaccine have faithlessly preached against the vaccine. Has Abbott done this? I'm not always on top of whatever Texas politicians are spouting.

We shouldn't need a mask or vaccine mandate. People should just be willing to do their part so that the eCoNoMy can get back on track. Are those two things really that much more hard than sending your grandparents out to die?

The issue with prominent right-winger surviving covid is that it enforces the idea in the heads of pig people that COVID is no big deal. The greatest missed opportunity in our fight against COVID denialism is Trump surviving.

Abbott can be rightly criticized for banning mask mandates, although this can be traced back to the CDC's recommendations at the time. Reasonably explained here, with other states (including California) on board.

This problematic way in which he framed it:

"Texans, not government, should decide their best health practices, which is why masks will not be mandated by public school districts or government entities. We can continue to mitigate COVID-19 while defending Texans' liberty to choose whether or not they mask up," Abbott said in a news release.

It's not even a universal ban:

The order, however, exempts state-supported living centers, government-owned or operated hospitals, state department of justice facilities and county and municipal jails, according to the release.

I thought Texans, not the government should get to decide? I guess it's all nonsense. Could there be, maybe, medical reasons for the exemptions? Better go cough on some old people in protest, LOL.

It's really the same petulant energy of a 10-year-old being told to go brush their teeth, people annoyed at being told to please wear a mask. That sort of "I was gonna but now I don't wanna" just because someone told you to do it. Reminds me of old people and seatbelt laws. Ask them to buckle up, get the eyeroll.

I was watching TV, something I don't ever do, and was flipping channels. I accidently turned to the home shopping network because the show had COVID in its name. On the channel there was a guy in a facemask talking over video to someone dressed as a surgeon in an operating room. They were discussing KN95 mask. The home shopping network was selling 30 mask for $39.99. Good lord that is scummy.

I did catch a Futurama episode on the SciFi channel though

One of the best from a one of the best.

I am at Atlanta airport on a lay over. That plane ride probably gave me rona. A bunch of strangers closed together. What is the point of face mask on planes if we can all take them off to eat? The girl next to me and I both scarfed down food without mask at the same time. Everyone who got food went mask less obviously. No straws...

Bought Five Guys at the airport. The 5 Guys had all of their seating up. So everyone who bought food went into the seating area to go mask less and eat. Would have been better off having people eat at the 5 Guys.
