Interesting

If he leaves me alone I can quite happily ignore his conduct on the forums but if he wants to get a reaction from me personally that reaction is going to take the form of a ban and nothing else.
Wow, truly the egoless judgment of Solomon

Honestly couldn't put which mod to which #, its long enough ago I can't even remember which ones he used to gripe at, I didn't care at the time.

Guessing wildly I'd put Varegg and Orangehound in there though.

Internetz are srs business after all.

I don't know what you and I guess that mod in the thread had against Roc18. I vaguely remember him not being too bright but he was another regular who got banned by the mods until submission. Roc18 used to be Masterstyle and then *Master. The mods banned him twice for being edgy I guess and when he came back the third time he was different.

I can easily see how some of the more animated users incurred bans, especially in the old days of the forum being srs bsns. I do not understand how the sorta dumb ones managed to get in that situation, which I say because "You know, I'm something of a fucking idiot myself" as I think about younger me. I guess I didn't do enough angsty, pathetic replies in my teenage years.

The higher your post count, karma and popularity went, the higher likelihood you would end up perm banned by a Scandinavian at some point. It was tall poppy syndrome put into action.

A bit of ancient history: there's an 11 year old mod thread in there saying that 78% of people polled (47 people), were in favor of letting usm back in. Other poll results in favor to a lesser extent were for Androo and Samtheman. elite mafia didn't pass muster. Mods responding to the thread seemed ok with usm coming back as well.

I can't imagine there would be a whole lot of opposition to a lot of permas making a comeback here. I wouldn't even mind seeing Jay return, even though he isn't banned. We're long due for an update about his deck, all the hours he lost being forced to spend time with his children, and the people he spread COVID-19 to.

ya'll take this shit way too seriously man.  i mean what are you trying to protect?  give me a break.  with such great threads such as "do you wipe standing up or sitting down" or the train wreck that dst has become.....not to mention the most popular thread is a spam thread filled with all kinds of great things.  this forum isnt a place where mensa members come to discuss topics.  the plain truth it is mainly an ego trip for mods to ban people.  pretty much no reason for it.  porn and racism should be about it.  so, since i got banned so many times so that it could massage the ego of some mods, i figured i would get banned for something that you should get banned for.
Seems reasonable. Two of the things I wouldn't want popping up on a shared or work PC, and even then for racism it should've been just for blatant slurs.

Here's that reg thread anyway, if it can be viewed:

e: guess not. anyway nobody was arguing in there. even drooz was hanging out.
e2: i guess that loophole has been closed for direct links to the mod subforum too. or at the very least unviewable while logged out?

The loophole seems to have been closed when Tazz did the big update.

Final thoughts about this: Do you remember a few weeks ago you mentioned that it sucked that people invented hell to mess up the idea of life after death for people? The mod issue on this forum reminds me of that. The forums back during college years (08-12ish) were a blast. Very grateful to have had a chance to experience that. It sucks that some mods ruined it by banning all of the fun people until there was basically no one left.

USM took this place more seriously than anyone though, not sure if his biggest dummy spit was when I called him USBabykiller or posted gay dating links in the hockey thread.

internet forums are peak web 1.0 and still far better than anything web 2.0 has spat out.

social networks, media platforms, surveillance capitalism: you-as-the-product, big data, ads ads ads ... no thanks.

i want the internet to return to lame-ass gamer handles and avatars.

Is the problem with modern games the lack of decent stats?

Early social networks were good. MySpace and Facebook when it was just for college students. Back then you could post underage drinking photos with your friends etc. That whole experiment went bad quick though. I remember in 2005 the police took us to the school auditorium and then went and brought up students MySpace and showed it to the rest of the school and warned the kids "EvErYoNe CaN sEe YoUr PoSt".

Okay good advice for a talking pig person but underage drinking photos aren't going to be a serious problem unless the police get on MySpace and start searching up kids themselves. Let the kids enjoy their youth somewhat.

Facebook today sucks in the fact that it is just an extension of your outward personality. I mean I have coworkers, family etc. on Facebook. So my feed is just pictures of cool things I have done or accomplishments rather than anything I actually find interesting or uniquely me. Reddit and here are more representative of who I am than my Facebook with my name and picture.

Facebook is doubly bad today since so much content is produced in order to generate views and clicks. FB isn't so much even pictures of family and friends as much as it is ads in the form of memes, videos, links, etc. that people make just for social media ads.

One good thing FB is for is dating and keeping people on the back burner. So I guess that is a win. Facebook dating has been more kind to me than Tinder ever was.

no. stats were the beginning of the end of modern games, actually. bf2 was a happy medium.

soon after stats came achievements, trophy cabinets, all that stuff parallel to the actual game that took attention away from good game development. it's not far from stats to skins and from skins to loot crates and silly gambling mechanisms.

most of my happiest moments in gaming, and some of the best all-time games, were stats-free. counter strike. quake. day of defeat. call of duty 1/2. none of them had persistent stats or ranks. you made a community based around a game server or IRC channel or xfire/steam group or something. truly excellent games, too.

I would if I could. It's a fairly rational choice. Would you rather waitress at waffle house or get paid a $90,000 to talk to nerds while in an inflatable pool in your bedroom?

How do you even explain this shit to other people. I mean if you're an actual camgirl fair enough, but softcore porn on twitch what

no different to the girls who get paid to go to giant nerd conventions in revealing outfits or whatever. nerds part with their cash and act goofy around girls. they don't even need to be hot. breasts and sci fi outfits are normally good enough. with twitch they don't even have to travel to comic cons or whatever.

A lot of Twitch girls also have Instagrams, Only fans, subreddits etc. Sure, they aren't Kardashians but a lot of them genuinely put in the work to become successful influencers.

I know I have a weird relationship to sex workers but I will still be the first to defend the work they do. As I have said before, there are millions of people who wake up everyday and make the world a worse place. Sex workers of any kind are some of the last people who should be made to feel bad about their line of work.

Funny side note: I did take a look at Twitch to see what "hot tub" streaming was like. There was a girl in a bikini riding a giant inflatable unicorn in an inflatable pool while staring blankly at the chat for something to respond to. What a life.

Game achievements are a particularly lamentable development. Just encourages more policing of player accounts and additions of bundled spyware.

Stats games I don't miss, and are one of the reasons I stopped playing WoT, where also so much can be totally up to chance. People had mods installed that would let them judge their team and the enemy team based on color coded performances and make decisions and be toxic accordingly. Peak stats r lyfe.

Space Marine had achievements (that usually weren't cared about), but wasn't much in the stats department. People took screenshots of leaderboards just so they could have some record. A happy medium, I think.

Imagine going to college to get a high paying job and then some camgirl or youtube gamer blows your (potential/) earnings out of the water. I think jealousy is one of the factors in people hating that you can make bank off of social media if you're lucky.

Holding it against them like some do seems kind of dumb, though. Yes they're not learning how to operate a lathe, but little guys "making it" should be celebrated. Rich people elsewhere who don't contribute much to their companies except for annual layoffs seem a better demographic to focus internet ire against.
