The government services minister, Danny Pearson, said on Wednesday that he was concerned by reports in the Australian newspaper that the general manager, Matiu Bush, had refused a required daily Covid-19 test after being onsite at a quarantine hotel, allegedly stating; “I’m the head of IPC [Infection Prevention and Control] and I override that protocol.”

Girl puts protesters in their place after they compare masks to slavery outside her school

A schoolgirl in California put protesters in their place after they compared mandates to wear masks during the Covid-19 pandemic to slavery.

The small group of protesters was gathered outside John Adams Middle School and Will Rogers Elementary School in Santa Monica on Monday when the encounter occurred.

In footage from the scene, the young girl and her father, Dr Blaine Pope, who are both Black, asked the group what the real issue is they are protesting.

“Freedom brother,” one replies, before another adds: “This is a form of slavery, man.”

Dr Pope’s daughter responds: “We have been through slavery. You have not.”

As the conversation continued, the protesters claimed that Covid-19 is a worldwide conspiracy that is “all about control”.

“They want to enslave humanity,” says one of the group, leading Dr Pope, who works in public health, to ask why.

“They want to depopulate the world,” the protester says. “They think there’s too many people on the planet.”

“Who’s the ‘they’?” Dr Pope asks, to which in response a protester named Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

The interaction continued, with the protesters apparently sceptical of the existence of Covid and claiming that no one is dying from it. Later Dr Pope asked whether the current deadly surge in Covid cases in India is fake — to which they said yes.

The Popes were not the only people to confront the group. Samuel Braslow of The Beverly Hills Courier, captured a number of interactions on video, noting it is the third such protest he has encountered in the Los Angeles area.

A man walking a dog past the school shouted at the protesters to “get the f*** out of my neighbourhood”, while a woman told them she had lost three family members to the virus.

One of the group responds that “it probably wasn’t even Covid that killed them”.

A father confronted the group about approaching other people’s children and talking to them, including his son, to which one of the protesters responded: “Thanks for the useless advice.”

Students were also vocally opposed to the group with one girl yelling at them “kill yourselves”, and another trying to hand a protester a mask.

Another parent, who had also lost someone to Covid, recognised one of the protesters and shouted through his car window: “Now I know, you’re that idiot! … We’ve had this conversation before.”

A small number of students mounted a mock counter-protest, and the group moved on to outside the home of County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl who came out to confront them.

When one protester said that HIV doesn’t cause Aids, Ms Khuel took a step forward and pointed a finger: “You are really crossing a line now. How many people did you lose to Aids?”

Mr Braslow later posted a screenshot in which one of the protesters expressed dismay at the reaction from the kids at the school, having expected that some would join them.
I don't know that she "put them in their place." That's stretching things a bit. Still a ridiculous comparison on the protesters' part. It's good to see that other people in the area were about out of patience with this crowd, though.

Those motherfuckers in the government ended WFH for me. So after XX days in the real world again I have some observations.

First: Holy shit some people are overly dramatic/careful when it comes to precautions. I watched a lady grab a chair, wipe it down, and then sit on it while also wearing a face mask. The chair hadn't been used in at least a year. And you can't even get COVID from a surface unless you lick it. Did she really think COVID was going to go through her jeans, through her ass, and into her blood system if she didn't wipe down the chair? And the people with the plastic face shields are dorks. I just can't take that seriously.

Second: The only people still getting sick at this point are probably the careless and dumb. Mostly blue collar too. Another drug counselor (I am a drug counselor) needed extra plastic barriers (which don't make a difference but whatever) installed in her office. When she came into work the custodians were installing it but no one had face mask on while doing it. That explains why we kept getting emails saying the drug rehab center is closed because a custodian got COVID. Those low education fuckers are derping around the building without face mask and getting each other sick. But I will say God bless their sacrifice if it closes the drug rehab center for some more time. I would actually give a few of them money to go party if it meant the drug rehab center closed again.

Third: Hybrid drug counseling doesn't work. Over half of my group therapy meetings don't have any addicts physically in them. So I am doing the same thing in person just with less tech and more annoyance while at the rehab center instead of at home. I have at max two addicts physically in the room during the meetings that addicts choose to come to. The addicts in the room are still logged into the group therapy meeting with everyone else so it is not like I can even do anything special with them while they are there. Especially since they are behind big plastic barriers. Group therapy actually runs worse while there are people in the room since I have to stop what I am doing in the virtual therapy meetings in order to talk/interact with people in the physical world. Finally, I have to create more work then before since I need to have stuff for physical people and virtual people. I have to create more stuff while also devoting new time to laundry/showering/commuting etc. Frankly, I think hybrid is the worst of both worlds. I would rather they just full reopen everything now than mess with hybrid.

Fourth: I actually enjoyed being back in person. When I sat down at my desk to get started in the morning before anyone else was in the building it felt good to be back in the cockpit. It is also nice being in giant communal areas with other people working. There may be something about being around people that is good for people. Even misanthropes like me.

Fifth and Final: The mask can be pretty annoying when you have to wear them all day. The bridge of my giant Jewish nose (I am Jewish in New Hampshire) feels a little sore after sitting with a mask on all day.

my only complaint about masks is an increase in rash/pimples around the mouth area. Other than that, I plan on making it a part of my daily balanced breakfast.

Montana and South Carolina opt out of federal unemployment aid. SC the second state to do so, I guess. "Disincentivising workers from employment." South Carolina's governor is worth $20 million. Montana's is worth $315 million. Both Republicans.

That reminds me of the top comment I saw on a Breitbart article about some tech company doing something I can't even remember. The comment had +X00 and was just "Amazon is communism. Facebook is communism. Twitter is communism."

I can't even.

what are you even talking about? a random person has a 'philosophy' degree from some place so ... there's an argument about philosophy degrees?

you are cracked.

the guy has two postgraduate degrees in public health and public health management ... literally trained for 20 years in order to fulfill that specific role. he qualified as a nurse with a specialism in intensive care. but the fact there's a philosophy degree in the mix somewhere means ... what, exactly?

nice deflection, though. 'indians are ruining australia's covid response'. nope. turns out white australians with multiple degrees from australia's top universities in PUBLIC HEALTH also have a fair capacity to be idiots and ruin things.

I saw this picture regarding India in the NYT and thought of Dilbert. They are burning COVID bodies into the Ganges river? That is not sanitary. There must be schematics for mass crematoriums on the internet for them to build. They had over a year to do so.

I assumed that was an old practice and not something still done today with piles of sticks and gasoline. But that is cool. India is a good country. A bulwark against Islam.

you delight in this stuff whilst ignoring the fact that half of the west’s eminent country resorted to using hydrochloroquine and god’s blessing.

guys, india doesn’t haven’t a monopoly on batshit superstitions and counterproductive behaviour. their crisis now is due to administration not some ‘savage’ culture. you are being a little transparent.

Was prepared for a Wednesday of hell but it really wasn't bad at all.

Got the shot first thing in the morning and spent that day at work without issue. That night I didn't sleep well (covers on = boiling, covers off = freezing). The next day I had some random body-soreness but nothing bad. Like I had done a full-body routine at the gym the day before, or gone for a long hike. Honestly that was it. Worked from home all Wednesday without issue. Today I felt 100%.

Will no longer keep everyone updated.
