The first question of Friday's White House press briefing is about why Biden hasn't had a solo press conference yet

Just realized from my NYT alerts that the governors of NY and California are both possibly getting recalled and impeached. Highest ranking non-federal democrats aren't doing well.

I look forward to hearing the smug announcement from conservative friends and then asking them to explain the reasons behind it.

Teaching U.S. 2 kids about the American highway system. I found an old documentary from the 50's by General Motors that was encouraging people to pressure the government to build more roads. The video mentioned the American Dream. I just realized I never taught the kids about the American Dream in the 100+ days of school. I forgot that the concept of the American Dream even existed. You don't hear people talk about that anymore.

The American dream is no longer "Work hard and you'll be rich and have a great life." It's now "Work hard and pray you win the lottery, otherwise you're life will be mediocre at best"

At least conservative media has its programming for the week now. I saw people comparing it to Trump's ramp difficulties, but I think that only had its moment because he said how he was the healthiest president ever and his camp always said Clinton was having strokes and shit on the campaign trail. It's a years-long saga of stupid shit involving these old-ass geezers.

Biden is still one of the more mobile nearly 80-year-olds I've seen. Trump was shuffling down that slight ramp like he was counting inches with toes. Biden took his stumbles and trotted the rest of the way up the stairs. The man had what, like two brain surgeries 40 years ago?

Anyway, according to the New York Times, Biden is planning a $3 trillion infrastructure and education bill. Unsure if they are going to try to debate the bill with republicans or just use reconciliation to get it through the Senate. Democrats aren't wasting anytime getting the money printer going.

From what I have read on Breitbart, all of the money is going to illegal immigrants and reparations to black people. So throwing some missiles at people in the Middle East might be some people's preferred use of the money.

Secret Service agents allegedly involved themselves in an incident in which Joe Biden’s daughter-in-law Hallie threw a gun belonging to her husband Hunter Biden in the trash outside a grocery store, Politico reported Thursday.
...
On October 23, 2018, Hallie Biden took a .38 revolver belonging to Hunter and placed it in the trash outside Janssen’s Market in Wilmington, Del. After informing Hunter the same day, he told her to go back and retrieve the gun, however the gun was missing from the trash can when Hallie returned to get it.

Hallie told the store manager, who passed the information along to Delaware police. According to the police report, which was obtained by Politico, the incident caused heightened concerns because the store was across the street from a high school, and officers worried the gun could be used in a crime. The FBI, which was investigating Hunter’s taxes at the time, also reportedly responded to the incident.
Hallie Biden, the dumpster diver, is the widow of Hunter's dead brother. Hunter left his wife for his brothers widow which is almost Biblical bad karma. Hunter Biden was also recently in the news since photos were leaked of him doing drugs and having sex with random women while married. Hunter Biden probably best represents the Americans id of all presidential children.

Try him and if found guilty of anything prosecute him. End of story.

Isn't how this is all supposed to work?

Rosemary Kennedy's tragedy starts way before. Complications from day 1. She was forced to remain in the birth canal for like two hours by a nurse forcefully holding her there so the doctor, busy with pandemic stuff, could get there and "deliver" her. You can imagine the oxygen deprivation.

Following that, seizures, episodes, and a culture especially considering mental illness to be a taboo. And then the botched lobotomy that left her unable to walk or talk. Poor girl.

National Review article: Not Everyone Should Be Made to Vote
"There is nothing wrong with preferring that not everybody vote in every election, because voting is a responsibility that demands deliberation."

This article and some other things really drives home that Democrats I guess won everything in 2016-2020. Yes, the 2020 elections were tight and not nearly as a big win as democrats had expected. But in terms of the battle of ideas...Democrats totally won. I feel like if you are trying to shrink the pool of voters it is an admission that your ideas are unpopular and cannot inspire people to vote for you once potential voters are informed about their choices.  Sure, Republicans are still going to win national elections but they either won't be able to do anything with those wins or will provoke major backlashes if they try to genuinely enforce Christian conservativism and small government economic policy.

Voting is a responsibility, guns are a right. Ok!

When have the Republican elite, or to make it easier, the old white male elite, not tried to curtail voting? First you had to be a white male landowner. Then you had to be a white male. Then you could be a black male, but only if you hit certain quifications like if your grandparents voted. Then they tried really hard to stop black males from voting through poll taxes and other nonsense that disproportionately affected black people (by design). Then they finally allowed women the right to vote. Then they tried to curtail black voting again by disenfranchising felons. Now they are back to passing laws that are specifically targeted towards black people's voting habits. Not allowing water to be handed out? Limiting voting on Sunday? It's appalling.

Same as it ever was.

the new yorker did a piece on the future of the republican party that touches upon this stuff.
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2021 … epublicans

political parties adapt or die. the republicans are almost uniquely backwards looking at the moment. a party of dilberts.

I have that issue sitting on my counter but haven't had a chance to read it.

These types of thinkpieces on the future of the Republican Party have been written since Obama's first presidential win. It's easy to dismiss their policy or platform as backwards-looking, but the reality is as long as their main ideology is "oppose anything democrats do" they will have a fan base. They have successfully convinced people that culture wars are more important than their own well-being.

You were fired from your non-union coal mining job, losing your health insurance just as your black lung diagnosis came through? That sucks, but what really matters is that a football player won't stand for the national anthem.

Considering our system we will always have a competitive Republican party. But in terms of actually governing ability...I don't know how capable they will be. They are not going to be able to undo the advances of the welfare state unless there is a severe fiscal crisis. People are exhausted and bored of Reaganite economic policy.
