The idiots storming the building probably wouldn't have stopped very long to consider whether or not a lawmaker in their grasp was a republican or democrat unless they were immediately recognizable. Although even Mitch might have been pushed over for not doing more for Trump.
If they had only managed to capture only Republicans, they would have hurt them anyway. The QAnon people think the republican party is disloyal deep state too.

I don't think the term "banana republic" itself is a completely fair, considering the political chaos western countries have endured as recently as a hundred years ago. America's own history is full of this sort of thing, although you can generally expect for places like the the US Capitol to be defended.

Yes, upheavals are definitely restricted to central and south america.

So Trump has check notes twice lost the popular vote, twice was impeached, lost the house, senate, and presidency in one election and is blamed by many for a riot that got 5 people killed including 4-5 supporters. Also at least 400,000 Americans are going to be dead from a preventable illness before he leaves office.

Literally the worst president we have ever had.

Also unfun fact: there are more troops in D.C. protecting it from MAGA than there are troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria combined.

Trumpists will believe anything except that Trump lied. And if they do accept that, it's a forgivable lie if that's what it takes to Get the Job Done.

More exciting to dive into a complicated set of fictitious events than to accept that your man is a literal turd. So of course they believe wholeheartedly that he didn't lose and that it's a steal. The same sort of thing goes down in gubernatorial races, including Washington, where allegations of fake votes run sky high.

We were talking about a Republican AOC earlier. One of the ones being pushed is a new congressman who is wheelchair bound.

https://static.politico.com/40/dc/ad2d4b254d389188b92e7c0f7aa2/201031-madison-cawthorn-gty-773.jpg

I know you shouldn't make fun of the handicapped and our best president was stuck in a wheelchair but it is a little ridiculous Republicans are hoping this guy is someone people can look up to even though you literally cannot look up at him.

Yeah this dude is going to be fighting for you while also fighting to use the bathroom. He will put AOC in her place after someone pushes him up the handicapped ramp.

I know very little about this guy. Looked him up. He beat the Trump-endorsed candidate, which is something I guess? But there's a lot of negatives. He's on board with Trump's fraud fibs, and is only like in his mid-20s and already a sex scandal.

In August 2020, during Cawthorn's campaign for Congress, several women came forward accusing him of sexually aggressive behavior, sexual misconduct, and sexual assault.[7][46][47][48] Katrina Krulikas described an incident when she was 17 and Cawthorn was 19 in which Cawthorn pressured her to sit on his lap and attempted to kiss her forcefully twice, which she resisted. Cawthorn did not deny the allegations, but said, "I did try and kiss her, just very normal, just in a flirtatious way", adding, "If I did make her feel unsafe, I feel bad", but questioned the timing of her allegation.[49] His campaign characterized Krulikas' allegations as politically motivated, which she denied.[48] After Krulikas made hers, three other women made allegations of sexual misconduct against Cawthorn, including forcible touching and kissing.[50]

On October 17, 2020, a group of alumni of the Patrick Henry College released a public letter accusing Cawthorn of “sexually predatory behavior” while a student there, as well as of vandalism and lying. The letter originally had 10 signatories but the number increased to over 150 alumni.[51][52] Cawthorn claimed that most of the signers did not know him personally and his campaign posted a letter of support for him signed by six alumni, two of whom work for Cawthorn's campaign. The letter implied support by former Patrick Henry College President Michael Farris; Farris disavowed the support letter and asked that he not be associated with it.[51]
Anyway I'm sure Republican PR is going to try and invoke Eisenhower with the whole wheelchair thing. Feels very token character from 80s cartoons.

Cawthorn is the owner of SPQR Holdings, LLC, a real estate investment firm in Hendersonville. The firm was created in August 2019 and reported no income; he is its sole employee.[6]
Cringe.

Cawthorn attended Patrick Henry College during the fall 2016 semester to study political science, but dropped out after earning mostly D grades. He said his grades were low primarily because his injuries had interfered with his ability to learn.[6]
Yes, definitely the next AOC.

The Republicans who stonewalled then grudgingly half accepted the election results with a load of caveats should bear some of the blame in this.

I love how it's always the timing that gets questioned. Like it's completely unbelievable that a woman would stay silent in some sense of shame before seeing her attacker on the news as a political candidate?

Metal detectors infuriate lawmakers as some Republicans erupt over new measures
https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/13/politics … index.html

"There are concerns about the gun-toting members, but also we don't know who they're going to bring to the inauguration who can bypass the metal detectors," another House Democrat said. "Until there's an investigation and until we understand our colleagues' level of complicity in the attack, we don't know how involved they really were. Until we have answers, I don't think we should trust them -- not all of them of course, but some of them."
It's a fair point, I think. During the demonstration, Republicans (notably the new one from Colorado(?)) were fanning the flames of fraud conspiracy.

That Democrat noted that some of the House Republicans went onto the chamber's floor after last week's attack and continued to share debunked conspiracies about the 2020 election. That Democrat added that some refused to wear masks while they were sheltering in place and now at least three Democrats have tested positive for Covid-19.

Some Democrats aren't happy about the metal detectors, either.

"I'm more likely to die of Covid because I got it from a colleague than I am to die because a colleague shoots me," Texas Rep. Filemon Vela, a Democrat, told CNN.
Another fair point, I guess, but I don't know what new gun rules have to do with masks.

"It is a shame that Nancy Pelosi is trying to disarm Members of Congress in the very place that needed more protection on January 6," she said in a statement. "It is clear metal detectors would not have deterred the violent acts we saw; this political stunt does nothing to improve the safety of Members in the Capitol complex."
Excuse me, did any of the armed congressmembers join the police line? I thought they were holed up with Democrats infecting them with their non-mask-wearing exhalations.

Why the heck do we need guns there? Complete political stunt packing.

Another case study on right-wing radicalization:

Tampa Bay singer used voice for screaming during Capitol riot
https://www.tampabay.com/life-culture/2 … itol-riot/

Audrey Ann Southard spent years helping kids find their creative voices and strengthening her own.

The Spring Hill vocal coach and piano teacher sang like an angel when she posted videos of herself crooning Norah Jones’ Don’t Know Why or belting out Memory from Cats, and when she went to Sicily in 2012 for an international music competition, she won.

That led to a showcase on a stage inside New York’s Carnegie Hall.

More recently, Southard used her powerful soprano to scream at police officers that they should “tell f--king Pelosi we’re coming for her! F--king traitorous c--ts, we’re coming! We’re coming for all of you!” She was part of the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

It seems bizarre doesn't it, but then who'd have thought a cabal of former US presidents, future US presidents, the former prime minister of israel and other influential Israelis, jewish-american plutocrats and british royalty would all be jumping on the private plane of a now mysteriously dead mossad linked financier and his girlfriend to travel to a tax haven to be served under-age girls?

It seems fantastical doesn't it, and thats what is actually out in the open.
