Another long forgotten game in my Steam library. Nice, if a bit too easy. Lots of party building options, which I personally like the most in games like this.

Went back and played the first Mirror's Edge over the course of last weekend.  It brought back a surprising amount of nostalgia and positive memories from my high school days, which is the first time I've had that happen.  I thought about going for the no gun kills achievement but this game is really fucking hard if you don't shoot back.  The graphics have also held up extremely well for a game that was released on PC all the way back in 2009.

Tried out Age of Empires 2 Definitive edition since I saw RTHKI playing it It has the option for triple monitor support. It didn't work right though. The units were floating around the screen. Must investigate further.

Also I played some AoE2 DE with RTHKI. I didn't save a screenshot but the game went on for about one Ridley Scott movie of time.

Neither looks like it would be very comfortable or practical for sweaty zombie apocalypses. Pinchy leather straps. Maybe there's something to be said for games where you spend an hour making a character only to cover them head to toe in homogenous full body armor.

Decided to try Crusader Kings 3 after all. I gave the Normans of Southern Italy a spin. Twice easily formed the Kingdom of Sicily. Twice got overthrown by relatives in my third succession. The first time in the screenshot made sense since I was a child. Second time was bullshit in my opinion.

A lot of good things to say about this game. It looks beautiful. I do like some of the changes in the systems they made. My prior hesitation regarding the game being mostly the same as the last one seemed to have been true but only in the most frustrating of ways. I'm not going to go into detail about the issues with the faction system because I doubt any of you will have any idea what I am talking about but it is bad and needs to worked on.

i was tempted to buy that game but i'm a total noobie at that whole genre.

i'm worried it'll have EVE online syndrome: fun to read about, hilarious with video precis, but a bit of a grind to play.

The game has a high learning curve and I wouldn't suggest it to anyone who isn't crazy about the period and the type of RPG/strategy gameplay. If you still want to take a stab at it CK3 at this state is the time to do it. They simplified/stripped down a lot of the game compared to CK2 and it they haven't released any DLC for it either. So now is the time to get in and learn the basics before they over stuff the thing.

So I finished my first campaign in Crusader Kings 3 Ironman Mode. Total length 38 hours.
https://i.imgur.com/um5OlQx.png

Started off as the Catholic Norman Hauteville dynasty of Sicily. I easily united The Kingdom of Sicily as the historical Roger the Fox. I converted to Orthodox and swore fealty to the Byzantine emperor. Even though the Byzantines had lost a big chunk of their territory in Anatolia as a result of The Battle of Manzikert, they stabilized and could defend my little Sicilian empire as I expanded. I was a part of this game's version of the Komnenian restoration, as I lead the Normans on conquest of North Africa and Central Italy in the name of the Byzantine Emperor. The Byzantine Emperor left me alone to do as I pleased in Africa as long as I paid my taxes. I was often a member of the imperial council in recognition of the King of Sicily's power. The screenshot below is of my empire at the fall of the Roman Empire.
https://i.imgur.com/HuFIWD9.jpg
As in history, the Seljuk Turks won at Manzikert and controlled a large Middle Eastern Empire. It eventually went into decay while the Byzantine recovered. Eventually the Seljuk Turks were overthrown by an Afghan ruler who then had his empire conquered by the Mongol Empire. I used the disorder among the Muslims to launch an invasion of Egypt at the same moment the Mongol Empire declared war on the Byzantine Empire. I finished a good amount of my conquest of Egypt before the Byzantine Empire was conquered by the Mongol Empire.
https://i.imgur.com/JYycYUr.jpg
When the Mongol Empire defeated the Byzantine Empire, the Khan of the Mongols took the core of Byzantine territory while newer territory got independence. What this meant for me is that I was still King Of Sicily in title but all of my southern Italian holdings were gone. I had just a few scattered castles along North Africa and Tuscany. While I plan out my next move, the Mongol Empire begins to collapse.
https://i.imgur.com/Uw4mMgR.jpg
When the Mongols started their invasion of the Byzantine Empire, a bunch of their Muslim subjects rebelled. Once the invasion was complete, the Khan of the Mongols dies and the empire is divided as in history. Lucky for me, there is an independent Khan in Southern Italy. So I gathered up all of my forces and invaded Sicily and retook it over a course of a few years.

That's part 1 of 2 of my playthrough. Let me know if you want to hear how it ended.

and here's me thinking that game is mostly about incestuous bloodlines and breeding rulers with prognathous jawlines and gigantism.

Fallen Order is very pretty, but there's a lot of stuff you can look at that you can't travel to.

Payoff at the end for Star Wars nerds, so you'll enjoy that.

OK so context here is Fallen Order plays a bit like a more merciful souls game. Invasion system lets other players join your game and mess you up even more than the game is already able. In Fallen Order I imagine that would have been various sorts of playable jedi hunters or a stormtrooper with a shock stick.

Oh yea I've heard about invasions. Dying Light tried to have them, dumb. Maybe they wanted that with the amount of times bounty hunters showed up when I was exploring later. Exploration and the 3d map threw me back to playing Metroid Prime.
Loved the game but don't care to replay it. Replayed Jedi Outcast which was top SW game for me. It hasn't aged great tbh, wish they could combine the two to make the best SW game.
That said Outcast broke once I got to the last area, only the player character had lighting for some reason

The Far Cry / ACreed games I think have fallen into a bit of a rut and will be a bit of a chore to complete if you don't enjoy the setting. Primal was pretty fun. I didn't finish 5, but mainly because the "regionality" of the map (if that makes sense) was complicating the storytelling. That wasn't so much of an issue in 3 because you basically had the north island and the south island, and it was a little easier that way to not wander into other plots.

Also I got into other games.

Dark Forces series was good. I think that, TIE Fighter, and Empire at War (esp. with mods) were my favorites. Sorry, Fallen Order/Starfighter/whatever.

Also there's a pretty decent mod for Squad, apparently.

Looks better than Battlefront.

Played a lot of modded Empire at War. Eventually overtaken by Sins, and later Stellaris as far as space strategy game go. My cousin plays it a lot but I can't get back into it. Same thing with block builder games.

Had good fun with Armada 2, one of Star Trek's few RTSs. Video of that, one of the most fun mechanics:

Usually limited to 8 cubes and a single fusion, but this has been modded. Always wanted to create that unit. Original was still very fun as a shock vessel at LAN parties, even if the game mechanics didn't do a good job managing casualties in large vessels in a way that made sense or was fair (lost a ton because the loss rate scaled with crew cap in what appeared to be a flat line?).

Speaking of "Minecraft-types," playing a bunch of Satisfactory as of late. The block building is an aspect, but it feels very low key. Mainly building giant skyways and multi-storied factory floors because building anything sizable on the terrain (where things don't snap to grid) usually otherwise looks like a mess.

Very zen game. There are hostile creatures, but no hordes attacking you like in Factorio. Great for idling while working and reading. Too bad there is no offline progress like in some games. Slow to start (can skip tutorial tier, but tier 1/2 are still painful) to teach you the ropes, but annoying to repeat early stages in new games. To compound matters, early tier factories don't usually scale up well to mid and late tiers. Tearing everything apart to optimize can be a time eater and lots of production downtime, so I'd recommend not building in an "ideal spot" at first.

Would still recommend if you like building without obsessive block placing.

From the store page (not my screenshots), two types of players:

looks wild. played factorio. had a lot of fun and even works on a crappy laptop

got swbf2new for free basically from sw bundle. played on xbox and had some fun. playing again...its ok. guns are decent. vehicles are boring. visuals are good. im not a fan of heroes in normal gameplay.
that said its nice to see republic commando in modern graphics. but i dont like how shooting heroes are bound to third person
