Bill Murray's *#& has stank for quite some time now. Wasn't he like "oh, I'm SOOOOO picky about the movies I appear in, only the cream of the crop!" and now he's in B-zombie fare in between movies that put me to sleep or gross me out (do we need any more movies where the 70 year old man and the 30 year old fall in love?). A bit of a dick on set, a dick in public. Does that explain why the internet loves him so much? That and just the boomers that remember him from his heyday?

I would rather finish The Avengers than watch Bill Murray mope his way through another romantic drama (it was cool in Groundhog Day because he had stuff going on in that movie that fit his style).
I resent the fact that the movie wants me to accept that ScarJo becomes instantly attached to a man in late his late 50s (who never looked good in his life anyway). And she connects with him because she is sad and bored in Tokyo? There's nothing to do at all in Tokyo that these two get wrapped up together? The premise of this entire movie is negated by the invention of smartphones.

How are you going to hook boomer Murray fans with a movie about a smartphone relationship, though? You've Got Mail might have been a hard enough sell as it is.

He was perfectly good in it and it was an OK film - which I'm guessing you haven't seen either.

Why do you gloat so when creative people miss a step?

You're becoming a meme yourself at this point "I haven't seen it myself but..."
Pond life competing at the bottom of the barrel is still pond life even if eight or nine figures are thrown at it. Comic book movies by wider standards just aren't really that good. Which is fine if you don't mind watching B-mat, but you don't have to really watch some of these movies to assess their likely value. Trailers and reviews save me lots of time.

It's hard to really put my finger on what bugs me so much about them. Thinking about it, they might not be limited by their premise after all. I could watch a cornball wrestling match between two men in Godzilla suits and be perfectly fine, but I feel like you'd have to clockwork orange my eyelids open to get me to finish half of the live-action comic flicks these days. Maybe it's the dialog, which is one of the things I recall that started putting me off actual comic books.

i was hardly 'gloating that he made a mis-step'. i just said he's hardly an actor you'd point to for a 'flawless' record or top-tier credentials. which he patently is not.

actors like tom hardy star in a few meh christopher nolan movies and an entire legion of fans worship them for being 'deep' and 'sophisticated'. don't get mad because i bring a measure of realism to the talents of mr. venom or whatever the fuck.

I can't wait. So excited for this. I'm not sure how a Zombie heist film will work but I am interested.

So like 90% of zombie films, they'll probably wade through an infestation to steal…supplies?

Pass.

I'll give them a point for, as far as I can tell, keeping their fingers off the triggers in that pic.

I assume the desert has taken back Las Vegas during a Zombie apocalypses. This creates an interesting problem. Isn't Vegas like too hot to run around from zombies for hours?

In this universe, the zombie apocalypse has also caused a plume of zombie dust to partially cover the sun, resulting in global temperature decreases of over 20°F

And that's fine, it's probably not worth your time, though I'd say it's the last not-pants-shittingly bad one in that series

Hillbilly Elegy 9/10, I watched it with my family over Thanksgiving dinner. I liked the movie though I think a lot of the criticism of the book that I read still stands. One problem with the movie that was also a criticism of the book is that it puts too much focus on the individual failings of poor people and doesn't talk about the institutional failures that lead to those problems. I would be interested in discussing the movie with someone here who watched it but I will otherwise spare you 3 paragraphs explaining what I meant in more detail.

Day of the Dead (1985), 8/10, This is the one where the soldiers and scientist are in an underground military base. I hadn't seen it since I was a kid so it was pretty much new to me. What I found super cool was the use of practical effects. No CGI at all.

One cool thing about the lack of CGI is that there wasn't any "how are you still walking?" zombies. What I mean is that there were no zombies so decomposed to the point where they would otherwise be immobile. The Zombies were just blue skinned people who were still dressed as though they were just going about their day when the apocalypse happened. One kid with in a football uniform. There was a ballerina etc.

Now I understand why you always like to dress upscale, so you can be one of the snazzy zombies rather than some moldy guy in an untied bathrobe. How is that going over the course of the pandemic?

Jurassic Park 1, 8.5/10. A 2 hour movie that ended making me wish it was 2.5hours

JP2 and JP3 are about equal to me. 6-7/10. Both are schlock. JP2 crammed too many things into it and the acting was bad. 3 didn't cram as much into it but the acting still wasn't good but Sam Neill > Jeff Goldblum. I enjoyed watching both even for the many many flaws.
