Ok, I'll bite. Terrorism is a form of defiance from a position of weakness. At what point in the last 1000 years has the Catholic church been operating from a position of weakness? Why would they need terrorism when they can leverage structural advantages established over hundreds of years?

the IRA bombed the UK for half a century, killing lots of innocent bystanders. they almost assassinated the prime minister. they mutilated several MPs and their families. they killed a close relative of the queen and a senior naval commander/aristocrat.

catholics drove around northern ireland, ducking into pubs to summarily execute people, or 'disappearing' mother's of eight who were thought to have talked to the wrong people.

it's all conveniently forgotten about by the laity, of course.
