The world should be run by people with training in and experience of taking sensible decisions based on the available information and getting things done in a timely manner, not people trained to analyse at leisure what happened in the past.
Not sure how much more obvious this can be.

Thatcher was a nut, she only did chemistry at Oxford because no-one does chemistry at Oxford.

What we've had is a long period of medium sized skirmishes with China and the Islamic world with no resolution, leaving us weaker. and them stronger.
Not a masterpiece really.

trained at leisure? what does that even mean? you’re acting as if all humanities students are gentleman-aristocrats or victorian amateurs, dilettantes browsing for fun. of course there are deadlines and the need to read large amounts, analyse information quickly, and produce work/responses. how the fuck do you even think a basic undergraduate degree is structured? to say nothing of professional research.

it’s like having to explain the world to an extremely sheltered child having a tantrum.

That description is useless dilderp. Where can you get this masters degree in making sensible decisions in a timely manner? What's the curriculum going to be like? Sensibility I-III, timeliness I-II? Exam consists of arriving in time, spouting off folksy mom & pop wisdoms and leaving on time?

What does 'experience in sensible and timely decision making' even look like. This is such a redundant statement. Of fucking course you want people who have had some measure of demonstrable succes in their lives. If you didn't realise it everyone in your parliament needed to win a few elections and minds before ending up there. By those criteria you can even call Boris a fantastic candidate because he succesfully manipulated and bluffed his way to the position of PM. Yet despite his history of personally timely and 'sensible' decision making we can all agree he's a moron. So what exactly are you talking about?

only scientists work to deadlines! only scientists experience pressures and demanding expectations! only scientists are expected to perform!

reading useless! analyzing and comparing thoughts of people useless! synthesizing new views useless! library useless!

Dilbert your problem is an unacknowledged inferiority complex. In your education, your work, your social life, all making you grasp for the barest of threads on which to balance that fragile sense of imagined pride, concentrated in some misplaced superiority derived from only your skin colour. I suppose it's an admission that the chasm between you and your heroes couldn't be greater, that being the only attribute you share with them.

Trained to analyse at leisure - Reading comprehension B- Try again.

Once again there's a massive difference between people who can plan and prepare for foreseen events, react to unexpected events, and those who can only analyse after the event. You, Bojo and Cummings are in the second category.

Cummings thinks he's in the first category but he's delusional - these are the most dangerous people of all.

mao and stalin were not 'failed artists'. hitler was redirected from an art school to an architecture school when he was a young man because he had no skill for draughtsmanship.

can you stop pretending like the defining event of their lives was art? hitler didn't annexe the sudetenland because he couldn't get the hang of oil panting.

Don't be cucks. War is cool. We need to direct more LGBT youth into the arts so we can finally have World War 3.

amazing how philistine and uncultured you have to be to consider someone that improvises light verse for fun when walking around the countryside to be a 'serious artist'. like does dilbert's life feature no artistic or creative activity at all? 'oh yes, that person who composes limericks and keeps a journal, he's a writer!'

Thin Blue Line

Kentucky State Police commissioner resigning after report that training materials quoted Hitler
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watc … t-training

Kentucky State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer plans to resign from his position after reports surfaced last week that police training materials quoted Adolf Hitler.

Brewer, who was commissioner at the time the slideshow in question was used, will resign by the end of the day Wednesday, Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet spokeswoman Morgan Hall confirmed to The Hill on Tuesday. She did not provide a reason for Brewer’s resignation.

Lt. Col. Phillip Burnett will become the interim commissioner as the state police search for a new commissioner, Hall said.

She also said the department "continues to work diligently to swiftly and thoroughly conduct an internal review of all training materials."

The news of the resignation follows a Friday report from Louisville’s Manual High School’s school newspaper the Manual Redeye that unveiled a previously used training slideshow used quotes from the German dictator and encouraged officers to be “ruthless.”

One of the quotes from Hitler included in the slideshow came from his “Mein Kampf," which read: “The very first essential for success is a perpetually constant and regular employment of violence.”
Conservative buddy is fond of referencing some guy with the bullhorn telling police to kill themselves (usually as a prelude to a rant about Obama, liberals, or how Biden is just Too Old and it's not fair to run him). Obviously the WORST of what's going on between American police and the American public.

It's too bad Hollis isn't still around to recuse himself from commentary on this.

I had the most hilarious exchange with a chinese government troll. The guy was arguing tiananmen square never happened and that the Chinese never did anything wrong, that all western media is lying propaganda (as they do), and as proof posted an excerpt from the documentary the gates of heavenly peace. A western documentary made by western people condemned by the CCP. Hahahaha

He ended up threatening me in PMs too, good stuff.

was just watching a travel show. on the episode about russia it mentioned a study that claimed up to 30% of all deaths in russia are alcohol-related. there are vast areas in the countryside and eastern provinces where the state healthcare system is basically non-existent. traditional faith healers and alternative medicine are more popular there than hospitals and state care. everyone is drinking bootleg alcohol in plastic bottles that to all extents and purposes is basically antifreeze.

remember when shahter was linking images of fucking cardiff, wales, on a saturday night, as if it's the same thing?

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2715218/

Alcohol-attributable mortality varies by year; in several recent years, alcohol was a cause of more than half of all Russian deaths at ages 15–54 years. Alcohol accounts for most of the large fluctuations in Russian mortality, and alcohol and tobacco account for the large difference in adult mortality between Russia and western Europe.
jesus christ. the welsh might enjoy a drink and get a bit mardy, but at least they have ambulances and A&E. none of them are drinking fucking paint-stripper out of desperation.

the duma just adopted a putin-tabled law that allows FSB officers to adopt a second citizenship. lol. so now you know where all the money and assets of russia are going to go as putin and his cronies slowly disappear into the sunset.

amazing country!

Didn't I post a video talking about Russia's problems with alcoholism awhile back, including people chugging cheap perfume or whatever, and you responded by (to paraphrase) saying "yeah but to be fair UK too, here's some old political cartoons."

I mean yeah but I'd call Russia's on the upper end of severe.

yes, unnamed, very good point. i can't remember the context of my point, except possibly to rub dilbert's nose in the fact that the most problematic drug for any western society throughout history has been ... alcohol.

the UK definitely has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, mostly as a social crutch and habit rather than total fabric-unraveling social ill. but yes, we are undoubtedly much, much better than russia on that front.

measurable decades of life expectancy lost because of abuse of a toxic substance. amazing how blasé you are about it but then anything illegal is PURE EVIL.

anyway great fun to see you spin and fluster over the same 3 topics over and over. i'm sure you make sense in your own head. pass the joint bro!

Measurable degree of life expectancy loss from eating red meat.
Its cruel and toxic - lets stop doing it. Same for dairy.

Alcohol in moderation is practically harmless, and doesn't involve animals being killed or made pregnant and their calf killed as a waste product.

red meat is not neurotoxic, not addictive, and doesn’t cause you to drive a car off the road or beat your wife in an uninhibited rage. red meat doesn’t affect your emotions, your behaviour, or your cognition. red meat in small amounts is nutritious and healthy; alcoholic beverages are not nutritious.

you should really learn how to put together a basic argument sometime. even a few comparison exercises would help you. red meat and alcohol are not comparable. might i recommend a high-school english class? that should just about do the trick.

alcohol in moderation is not ‘practically harmless’, it’s literally harmful and increases the chances of all sorts of disease and cancer. i’ve linked to you several times official medical advice from U.K. and australian medical bodies saying that the best alcohol consumption is no alcohol consumption, but, ‘if you must’, to keep it to very small weekly quantities. you take a calculated risk – and that’s ok. we all do every single day.

I didn't say meat was neurotoxic or addictive, dur. What I said was the reduction in life expectancy is measurable.
Reading comprehension C- try again, my argument is just fine.

Meat does cause cancer and other problems and is monstrously cruel in its production.
And in fact people do become accustomed to craving it, whether the reasons are sociological or physiological I don't remember.

For illegal drugs you basically have one source, a crackpot at Imperial whose methodology would be rejected at 'O' level.

A mismanaged vegan diet is probably going to cause more malnourishment and bodily harm than the occasional steak. I gave it a go once and it's very involved to maintain.

trying to compare the harm done by red meat and alcohol

one is literally a poison and the other is a nutritious food.

let me know when there’s top 10 charts of countries cut down by the blighted addiction to veal.

I've got lots of reasons to resent alcohol, and what it's done to friends and extended family. I can think of far less reasons to throw shade at pot. Don't smoke when operating heavy machinery? Sure.

Dilbert, are you a vegan or a vegetarian again? Are things like cheese and eggs a part of your diet? Piscetarian?
