i think a lot of people acknowledge the influence of visual media ana telegenic appeal in the nixon–JFK era. but hardly a matter of substance.
As someone "into" politics to some degree, I've been baffled every time someone told me they were watching a debate this year. There's so much better uses of one's time.
The Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, told reporters on Capitol Hill he had no health concerns, after questions were raised about pictures showing severe bruising on his hands and some bruising around his mouth.
He is famously married to a Chinese woman. Is this traditional Chinese medicine doing?
Looks like he did some aggressive sucking and stroking... on the Tin Man’s sheet metal cock.

I'm conflicted. On one hand I don't want to make fun of people for health things, and on the other Mitch looks like a turtle and has made a nuisance of himself in his elected position. He also supports a president who makes fun of people for health things. Kind of sad considering he's a childhood polio survivor.
he’s decomposing before our very eyes.
It’s a tragedy that these are the elders thinking for and guiding our people. Sick and forgetful. This is not the American way. Our society has been subverted by clandestine forces. Poor guy appears to be having a rough time.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

It's been favorably argued that his haste to push Trump's supreme court nominee is just him "doing his job," same with Republicans dragging their heels on Obama's nominee ("that's their job!"). If that's truly the case, maybe it's high time to redefine what that job is to some extent.
It's regrettable that the supreme court is subject to these partisan overtones.

The Republicans are the sole rightful rulers of America, thats their job.
Fuck Israel
The Supreme Court was never good.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Gee, I wonder why the police took no action. One Pennsylvania polling place fell under a full out attack on those standing in line to vote and trying to cast a ballot on Saturday.
In a Twitter thread, Behavioral Economist Alex Imas explained that while he was casting his ballot on the outskirts of Philadelphia County, PA Saturday, a parade of semis and other cars surrounded the polling place, laying on their horns.
“I arrived just as polling place opened. Short line. Thought I’d be in and out in 20 minutes tops. Even w/ this short line, it took 2+ hours,” he explained.

“Then the next Semi followed, then the 3rd,” he continued. “A motorcade of semis, jeeps, and a few sedans drove down the road. All honking. All flying Trump 2020 flags. With people yelling out the window. This motorcade snaked around the polling place the entire time I was there (2 hrs).”
Imus explained that a line of semis honking while people were standing in line was so loud that it made trying to vote a nightmare.
“Listening to this for hours is jarring,” he said. “Election officials, who were extremely professional, could not give instructions to people in line because no one could hear them. People covered their ears. At some point the people in line started yelling at the trucks. Some of which stopped, and started yelling back. There were enough police/officials to keep things from escalating. But all this being said: There is no telling what Nov 3 is going to be like. Vote early!”
Chances are these drivers could be charged with noise ordinances and even voter suppression attempts. It’s unknown why police didn’t take action to protect the voters.
Pennsylvania voters can report voter intimidation to the Pennsylvania Voter Services.

7 days guys. Aren't you excited?
I early voted at my old high school today. They really softened the place up. Soft blue-green paint job in the cafeteria. Big mural on one wall portraying the neighborhood, featuring a rainbow, the Verrazano bridge, and a large portrait a young hijabed girl. “No Bullying” signs posted prominently. Snapple vending machine replaced with bottled water machine. Everyone was trying to contain their excitement over voting.
So they turned a school built for their hard-working Catholic immigrants into a gay Islamic community center?Superior Mind wrote:

I don't recall ever being harassed or insulted by a gay person or someone wearing a hijab. I've had a couple old friends come out as gay or transgender and they were honestly terrified that I'd ghost them over it (I guess other people had). Most of the nastiness is directed at these people rather than the other way around.
A school telling kids to stop being pricks probably isn't going to hurt you.

I am all for being inclusive but why did they need to put up a picture of a Muslim Arab girl and not a Christian Arab?
Why is this okay?
but this isn't?

The person on the bottom pic probably isn't going to trigger as much xenophobia (or white knight sexism) here in the US as one of a girl in a hijab.
I think the last person I saw in a hijab was picking out vegetables at the supermarket. Scary stuff, man. Like 911 all over again!

the girl on the bottom is a pornstar who had a protracted mental breakdown in public and has exported all of her drama and daddy issues to instagram.
but yes, let's use her as a model for a perfect christian youth and pick on the (presumably) innocuous muslim girl. clearly the islamic girls in hijabs are the defective ones.

Because they are accurately portraying the neighborhood. There are some Christian Arabs here, but mostly Muslim ones.SuperJail Warden wrote:

Most of these girls are very westernized besides their religious education and home life. In public the only Arabic I hear them using is often “wullah,” which means “I’m serious” or “seriously?” Which is actually an Arabization of the colloquial term “deadass.”

some people here have a hard time understanding that 'islam' is mostly a family/home domestic culture for its adherents, not a burning religious devotion. just like a huge number of westerners consider themselves 'christian' despite only gracing a church for weddings, funerals, and their own baptism. it's a broad culture and a set of customs; a calendar and religious holidays and observances; a diet and a mode of dress. an identity, for sure, but not one of stringent moral demands and political clamour.
i really doubt dilbert has interacted with hardly any moderate muslims in his entire life.

I think it’s easier for me to not be bothered by this reality because I grew up as a religious minority amongst my peers/in my neighborhood and yet feel and think of myself as completely American.
I have never once for a moment entertained the reality of Santa Claus. That can put you at ideologically odds growing up.

Working deep-cover.
Good news: with exactly a week left to election day, almost half of all people who voted in 2016 have voted so so far. Hopefully this trend of early voting continues throughout the week so election day is less chaotic.
