yes i’m sure they are hugely popular and everyone on your facebook really is posting photos from the south pole. i’m sure this is contributing more than regular airline travel or holidays to global warming. and i’m sure that the entire site, business and antarctic cruise industry has DAVID ATTENBOROUGH personally to thank.

you’re very good at this proof & analysis thing. i’m very surprised you didn’t become a researcher or academic.

I assume most people going to the Philippines who aren't Filipino are sex tourist and/or pedophiles.

Finally finished the last two episodes of The Mandolorian s1. It’s pretty good. A few things break the sense of being in the Star Wars universe - like Werner Herzog - as soon as he speaks I feel like I’m watching one of his docs. Also the scene with the two scout troopers bantering while waiting for orders - they sound like two doods from a tech start up- even their posture says “c rate actor” instead of battle hardened soldier of the empire. One of them says “oh my god,” which is just not lore friendly dialogue. So far it remains the only saving grace for Disney’s Star Wars. It has the flavor of the expanded universe that SW fans are familiar with.

If Ep V is a 10/10 then this a 6.5-7.

They have rivers of garbage. Some places there are as bad as India and Africa. Only saving grace of that place is the fact that their women can be very sexy and they are Catholics.

From what I understand, one of the Disney SW cartoons probably does a better job than the new movies (or Mandalorian) at being faithfully campy, yet still kind of dark. A kid growing up around mass death, poverty and misery is probably going to be a little messed up even if he does become a space wizard.

I feel like Baby Yoda is like the unironic embodiment of Space Balls' Yogurt making fun of the marketing aspect of Star Wars.

Baby Yoda is prob gonna turn out to be a clone of Yoda. I just don’t think Yoda and Yaddle broke the Jedi code by getting it on.

And the 2003-4 clone wars animated series was probably the grittiest Star Wars on tv/film has ever gotten.

Star Wars is just so bad as a fictional universe that they would do something silly like make Baby Yoda Yoda's clone.

You know what, I can't actually think of any grand sci-fi or fantasy universe that isn't terrible.

william gibson's 'sprawl' trilogy aged pretty well.

All three books have won multiple awards. Interesting bit of trivia: when he saw Blade Runner, Gibson was afraid people would just assume he stole the ideas. Rewrites.

Baby Yoda is creepy. A 50 year old (?), withered baby frogman that can kill you with a thought is something out of a horror film.

Imagine being utterly afraid that people would hate your book, going out of your way to discourage yourself from writing any more after, and then it being so well received you get to put out another in two years. What a roller coaster!

I never watched the boys. But I kind of wish I had gotten to see this scene without it being spoiled by a news article.

Got partway through season 1 of The Boys before I lost the desire to binge through. It's on the bottom end of "ok." It robotically forces some of the hot-button issues of our time, like ticking them off a list. "Look at us, guys, we're with it!" A plot literally co-written by social justice twitter. I like how two pivotal characters randomly appear on the same park bench to tie their plotlines together. Yeah sure whatever.

Funny scene, gore explosion, funny scene, awkward "adorkable" protag. Egh, spare me.

"Funny" scenes. I'm in season 2 and enjoying it so far. It has plenty of issues, mainly writing and the cheap feel to a lot of the in-universe media stuff but I quite like Anthony Starr / Homelander

I only watched bits and pieces on YouTube. I enjoy the over the top violence but at the end of the day it is a superhero t.v. show and I am just not going to invest the time into it.

Homelander vaporizing people with his eye lasers is something you won't see in a Disney movie though.

I think Starr does a good job of conveying a lot of conflicting emotions, so there's that. I did watch some clips out of season 2. Notably, Spoiler (highlight to read):
'The Girls' ganging up on Stormfront. I feel like that scene would have been better without the empowerment music kicking in. It just comes off so 'HeY LoOk, WoMeN cAn FiGhT ToO!' in every show (and there are many) that employs it.

So that music kicked in cause they filmed a crappy in universe female empowerment scene earlier in the show. But yea 2 superheros with super strength just doing some crappy kicks was funny stupid.

Finished season 2. 8/10. Anthony starr still the best/only reason to watch, lots more pandering this season and apparently references to super hero movies I've never seen

Well it makes sense in that context. As long as the show is self-aware of how stupid it's being, I guess.

I only watched bits and pieces of the show through youtube but I assumed the girl power scene was a reference to the talked about and often mocked girl power scene in Avengers End Game.

The funny part of it in the Boys for me is that they were kicking the Nazi girl on the ground like they were fighting inside a Harlem McDonalds instead of a fancy choregraphed battle like the Avengers.

A bit of both, the earlier empowerment scene might have been a shot at marvel. I read the reddit discussion threads and boy, they loved how amazing that scene was compared to avengers, where they all stood around.
