The Epic Game Store. It's Like Steam and Origin but for Epic games. It has been criticized strongly by a lot of the PC community for paying developers to exclusively use their platform. People do not like having another launcher to use. And to those people I say "fuck em".

Epic keeps giving away AAA like Civ 6, Grand Theft Auto V, and others. And while I either already own these games on Steam or don't have any interest in them, I do appreciate free stuff. And what has Steam done for me or anyone lately to deserve such loyalty? Nothing. Valve has done nothing. The last significant thing they have done was allow users to get refunds and that only happened because EA/Origin did it first. Valve didn't have a spring or COVID sale like other platforms either.

So Epic, has my official seal of approval. Competition is good for consumers. Please consider signing up for Epic.

Origin was always giving stuff away back when I got it. Twitch gives stuff away on the regular.

I don't feel loyal to Steam, but it's my largest digital library. And Epic makes that like 5 or 6 different accounts. I won't pretend it isn't annoying to have yet another sign-in or have a franchise split between two different services, though.

Also there's a spring sale event on Steam right now I think.

So EA is bringing over their library or at least a lot of it to Steam. I don't think they surrendered to Valve but they might be trying to do what Ubisoft does with Uplay and Rockstar does with their thing. You can buy the game on steam but also need to log into an Origin side service to play it.

There has been a steam sale going on for a few weeks. I didn't buy anything. Did any of you?

Like most sales, I dumped a bunch of my wishlist bookmarks in the cart and have been sitting on it for some days. At the last minute, I might pick up a couple.

Maybe Hard West and Genesis Alpha One.

What games is it comparable to? I trust your video game recommendations

Can't really think of any similar games... It's a 'story game', where every choice you make affects the story somehow (and there are a lot of decisions and optional parts that affect the story). You can kill main characters or get them killed and the game carries on. There's a decent amount of paths in the game and I thought the plot and acting was pretty good for a video game.

I played through twice. My only complaint is that you can't skip scenes.

This is an example of the different paths/options on one of the levels:

That's actually super cool. Kind of thing I could play through several times just to see how messed up a story line I could make. Detroit: Becoming Degenerate

wasn't Fable like that?

Fable had a branching story, but this has much more of a Telltale Games style where the choices you make in the various levels may or may not have an impact on something important in the future, and affect your relationships with other characters.

It's been awhile, but I think that was sort of Alpha Protocol's thing too. Though hampered by the dialog options not always matching result dialog in tone. Broke immersion.

I think Mass Effect had a decent amount of story pathst too, you could even load your story path from the first game and continue it into the second (and maybe third?) which is pretty cool.

Detroit is a bit different in that the gameplay is mostly the choosing of the paths and creating the story instead of just an extra part to a shooter or something.

You can play the first level on the free demo to get a feel for it.
