There must be some other reason areas with large hasidic communities have five times the infection rate of areas which don't.

They don't vaccinate either. Everything is God's will.

I don't hate jews, or hasidics. I think they're interesting. Shitty neighbors, but interesting.

I am going to start a militant Catholic podcast where we can make vague references to anti-semitic tropes.

I watched an interesting lecture by a college professor about Catholic history while I worked out today.

I usually find videos like that interesting even if I may not always agree with everything.

An Interview with Professor Thomas Madden: Dispelling Myths About the Crusades

I'm guessing these are the bullet points?

The video in my post above you deals only in very small part with the Crusades. The video I linked in this post from earlier is about the Crusades. He deals with all of the stuff in that website interview in that video and much more. One thing that the website you linked didn't go into is the perception of the Crusades among Muslims in the Middle East. I didn't know the historiography of the Crusades among Muslims and his points are very interesting. I won't spoil it though. I linked the video about the Crusades below.

very cool read on king david and the origin of the israelites, seeing as dilbert recently was in sore need of a basic history lesson (jews are not from egypt and their period as slaves was entirely mythical).

This is why the Muslims have no claims to the Holy Land. The Jews are smart enough to protect and encourage Christian pilgrimage too.

They are both as fictional as each other. Most of the old Testament is made up stories about the past after the Jews established themselves in Judea and were freed from Babylonian captivity by Cyrus the Great.

For what it is worth, the Old Testament has possibly the greatest writing in history. Much more quotable than the New Testament. Also the old Testament has some hardcore stuff like

Psalm 137 wrote:

By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept
    when we remembered Zion.
2 There on the poplars
    we hung our harps,
3 for there our captors asked us for songs,
    our tormentors demanded songs of joy;
they said, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”

4 How can we sing the songs of the Lord
    while in a foreign land?
5 If I forget you, Jerusalem,
may my right hand forget its skill.
6 May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth
if I do not remember you,
if I do not consider Jerusalem
    my highest joy.

7 Remember, Lord, what the Edomites did
    on the day Jerusalem fell.
“Tear it down,” they cried,
“tear it down to its foundations!”
8 Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction,
happy is the one who repays you
according to what you have done to us.
9 Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks.
The Catholic Church actually doesn't say the full thing at mass anymore due to the Vatican 2 reforms.

Fire passage.

I prefer to go along with the John Allegro idea of Rabbis getting loaded on shrooms in caves.

I always thought it was pretty dodgy that it took 40 years to cross the desert. Like, it ain’t THAT big, right?

It sucks to be a slave but can you imagine the regret of the house slave for giving up that job in order to wonder around the Sinai for 40 years?

Can you imagine the regret of Moses for whacking that rock with a stick and getting banned from entering Canaan after 40 years shlepping in the heat? Oy.

The catholic church actually never says the full thing at mass. As far as I know, the "Rivers of Bablyon" is only ever cited around Pentecost. Have you ever actually been to a Catholic mass? Doesn't need to be said in Latin to qualify. You seem to know very little of actual practice.

The only recital (beyond call and response) in catholic mass is the Nicene Creed, as far as I recall. I think it's done right before or after the initiation of the Liturgy of the Euchatist. Definitely not biblical scripture.

Serious question Mac- when is the last time you went to mass? What's the last sacrament you received? Did you do catechism classes?

Just curious as to your level of exposure to Catholicism beyond an academic setting.

Did you receive reconciliation/go to confession? I remember crying the first time I had to go. I remember telling the priest that I cussed and being so afraid of admitting it. What a trip. The priest (actually a monsignor) was a family friend and i was scared he was going to tell my parents.

My two brothers got nice custom watches from their confirmation sponsors. I got a personalized Bible. I cant find it but if I recall, it had some gold leaf and custom embossing. If I can find it, i want to give it to you as you continue your catholic journey.  Once you're confirmed, you can mentor another young soul and pass it on.

I went to confession once around the age of 11. I won't go into what I confessed.

No, thanks but I appreciate the offer.

What was your confirmation saint? Mine was Saint Longinus
