i have a taste and preference in my reading habits, yes, as anyone might. it doesn't say anything about me being a snob or a hipster. you are really very, very precious larssen. such a prickly-pear over this topic!

most people i know buy and read books, and i doubt most of them would even characterise themselves as 'readers' or 'book worms'. it is a totally ordinary pastime. you don't even have to read more than you do, but trying to nullify all of academic book production or caricature book readers as effete snobs to defend your own preferences seems a bit of a stretch.

I caricatured people who excessively buy print books. The effete snob whose self worth hinges on his manuscript collection also isn't one I conjured; it's a well known amusing stereotype.

i don't know anyone who has a manuscript collection, i have to say. one of my authors was a rare book and antiques dealer, but he was murdered.

'excessively buy print books'. what does that even mean? the vast majority of people prefer print and physical books. the e-reader is a brand new novelty, larssen. it has about a 10 year foot-hold on an industry and format that has existed for nearer to 600 years. christ almighty. you really are a special case.

I suppose I'm just unusually eco friendly. No worries, I won't argue printvdigital book sales with a publisher. On that note you're more of a video game NPC stereotype than I am uziq

almost all printers, magazine publishers, book publishers, etc. have tree planting schemes set-up. the paper trade isn't exactly the most injurious thing on the planet, larssen. do you avoid driving and diesel public transport? lmao.

the NPC meme is there to describe people with no salient personality characteristics and who are the zero degree kelvin of normalcy. that's you. you are the literal mean average of taste. you think going to restaurants makes you a cultivated and interesting guy. you listen to shitty landfill dance music. you probably go to a gym wearing beats by dre and pump to kendrick lamar. you're not even a stereotype, you are the 21st century white european cookie-cutting template itself, my guy.

trust me, in the stakes of exchanging sympathy, there’s no competition here either. i’m not envious of a simpleton who lives in an apartment free of books and bases his personality on an ability to eat linguine at restaurants. you are one of the most Normal persons i’ve ever encountered. you’d be an NPC in a game.
You do know that social isolation leads directly to depression,  don't you? Purely online interactions actually make it worse, not better.

of course. it is causing mental health issues in the particularly isolated. i don't think healthy, regular individuals are becoming clinically, suicidally depressed because they can't go to restaurants for 3 months, however.

people are allowed to congregate in public here, at parks, or to 'bubble' and merge with a small number of other households. people are not in solitary confinement, jay, only interacting with other human beings through a judas hole.

you do know that spreading a pandemic disease leads directly to mass death, don't you?

Our public transport is indeed almost wholly electric or hydrogen powered. I don't have a car, no need, and rarely drive. Enfin, these aren't intentional practices on my part rather just a comfort preference.

I have no beats. The music I play in the gym is usually my spotify favorites shuffle and rarely rap or house/trance for that matter. Anything from prokofiev to in flames. I don't eat linguine every day, but I like to cook and occasionally eat at great restaurants because I appreciate the art of cooking (gasp, he said it again!). I have a fantastic life & career that's rather abnormal than mediocre, but thx, even if it was I wouldn't mind as I enjoy it.

You on the other hand seem wholly convinced your existence is something special, unique, curated and cultivated. Meanwhile you sit in your 1 bedroom apartment marginally contributing to society by slaving away editing other people's original thought. You may produce a little poetry on the side, but it's honestly no different from the housewife with a pilates teaching gig on the side, or the part-time painter making awful 'art' nobody gives a toss about. Life will not change as you get older and older - a steady contract at a publishing firm about the pinnacle of achievement in that tiny world. You'll end up leaving nothing of note in your wake and bore your grandchildren to death with a treatise on art in the early 21st century.

lmao i'm dedddd.

larssen, i can publish your memoirs one day. 'recollections of a boilerplate'.  it'll be a bestseller in brussels with all the other grey-faced bureaucrats.

we can get bagehot from the economist to do the foreword.

Who is Larssen and the pig-man who just ran away?

Had some good vodka last night, to keep it on topic. Went down pretty smooth. First liquor since New Year’s.

Haha. Thanks. Most certainly old members. Who the hell would come fresh to the place after 15 years?

Why now? In a time of reassessment and sifting though the past. January thru May I was very alone most of time living in the mountains. now cooking for an old lady on Martha’s Vineyard and also alone most of the time. It’s nice that this corner of the interwebs still exists for us. I spent the last 7 years slowly losing lots of friends and drifting away from... quite a bit. Now I see it’s best to keep friendships and conversations kindled even if they are on bf2s. Also turning 30, right?
