la dolce vita - 9/10.

much better, for me, than when i last saw it as a student. deeper, truer to life. a lot less funny and a lot more sad.

sorrentino's 'la grande bellezza', which came out in 2013, has changed the way i view fellini's original, too. (another 9/10 film for me).

the british film institute's online player has some amazingly restored classics. 4k conversions of original film stocks, perfect noiseless audio remasters, etc. going to re-watch a lot of classics i haven't touched in a while, methinks.

Zombieland - Double Tap

Pretty funny, the exposition of the uber business model was pure genius.

Poor Taylor Swift. Imagine how she feels with that being his big picture debut.

Attack the Block 7/10

Its about a gang of drug-crazed black aliens hunting a white female and causing death destruction and mayhem.

Also some dog-like creatures with glowing teeth are in it too.

I wonder if the makers intended for the parallels to be drawn.

I am really jealous of the youth and vigor of these 16 and 17 year olds. I miss high school smoke outs.

I recently revisited Sam Raimi's Spiderman movies and forgot how much fun they were. This scene from 2 has so much campy horror vibe to it

I never saw Spiderman 2. Thanks that was really well down. It is funny how they managed to have a murder tentacle scene but still maintain that PG-13 rating.

Wasn't it mostly a closeup of Molina's face during the tentacle massacre?

No, there was a lot of tentacle action (?!). Pretty good stuff without being able to show bloodshed. This makes me wonder how fun Comic Book movies could be if we were able to do rated R ones all the time.

i am really tired of edgy/deep/dark comic movies. christopher nolan has made cinema much stupider after all that pseud angst and bullshit. batman and then inception. christ, make it stop.

I prefer comic book movies without excessive bloodshed. Unless it's a part of some other statement (like Kick-Ass), they start losing a certain fantastical appeal when it becomes men in spandex on the gruesome beaches of Normandy.

I'd much rather watch Reeve's Superman than suffer through another sitting of Watchmen and people exploding. Gross.

I don't even know where we're at now on the Marvel/DC stuff. They release a movie every three months it seems.

Watchmen was the shit. Second all time favorite movie. The comics message was kind of lost but it was still very good. That comic book was kind of overrated anyway.

all i know about watchmen the movie is that that alan moore or whatever actually hated it, and that the film broke with the graphic novel from the very first scene onwards.

Watched DF's clip. He's right, there's a lot of horror camp to it. Weirdly what I remembered the most wasn't people getting tossed around, but the closeup of Molina, character presumably unconscious throughout the whole thing. That was probably close to the last of the comic book movies I could enjoy without being a little uncomfortable.

2005 Batman was probably Nolan's best contribution to that franchise. The other movies weren't even called Batman.

It feels like comic movies these days are tripping over themselves to prove to the audience that the subject material isn't campy. Maybe that's good for the box office, but it's not my preference.

There's way too much to go into about the whole thing but Alan Moore is one of those whiny artist who hates anything that gets adapted or modified because he thinks his comic books are the Mona Lisa.

I would watch Captain Whatshername a dozen times before rolling Cats 2019.

i've seen the dark knight and inception, yes, of course.

i haven't seen any of the 'marvel universe' movies, i don't think. avengers, captain mermaid sea-man, norse gods in space, all that stuff that's proliferated like landfill in the last 10-15 years. which about seems right, to me. why would someone in their mid-20s go and watch a movie in which bad actors make wisecracks at one another and Good fights Evil?

You're right, people in their 20s should be watching impenetrable nonsense about nothing made in the 50s.
Having said that I did enjoy Casablanca.

I should think the X-Men have taught more people of today about tolerance and inclusion than religion ever will, And I thought Man of Steel etc were perfectly good.
